News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

So it seams Britain, Wales, is the source:
ft.com/cms/s/0/d848f3c8-753c-11e2-b8ad-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2KlX0HUWx

The owner is claiming they are allowed slaughter horses and didn't know it was being sold as beef, maybe he didn't but someone then must've been doctoring the labels to say beef.

Sorry, link is behind a paywall.

Here are others:

Travel / "Cool Katowice" - a viable alternative to Kraków? [18]

Anything from 3quid to 14..but usually 6 or 7 in most places.
What are covers? Entrance fee?
Yea, clubs do, pubs don't. If a pub tries tell them to shag off. No idea re: club price, late pubs are better.
Re: money, if a pint is 7, then 100 is 14 beers! Wahoo........or and don't forget to look up your bus, night buses sometimes depart from different stops.

Utter nonsense.. Was the case 10 years ago, no longer true..

You're the one talking nonsense :P
Every traffic cop I've ever come across we've always been able to come to an arrangement.

Still works out in the sticks

Yea, I live out in the sticks. (^_^)
Prob costs 200zl in thievin' Warsaw :P

The Silesian Metropolis lies within one of the largest urban areas in European Union. Its population is 2,039,454 (2008)

Apologies for a [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Silesian_Metropolitan_Union] Wiki link, but it was the only one I could find in Eng

Travel / "Cool Katowice" - a viable alternative to Kraków? [18]

can you recommend any other places?

Kato, Lorneta z Maduza...actually all the bars around the Mariacka area....... except Lemonada & Cooler, they're sh!tholes
Hipnoza, the one under Hipnoza,
2b3, but it's a bit ***** to be honest,
There's a place on the wosnosci rondo,
There's a pub under the main theatre..........sorry, I'm useless with names.
There's plenty of clubs too, but I couldn't be arsed going to clubs, dance music here is god awful europop.
Skybar is nice, in Altus hotel

Here's a few lists:

Sofa, Lemonade (english spelling), Jazz Club and Babylon

Sofa is full of tracksuits & sluts....2nd part is a good thing :P
Lemonade you can get glassed for zero reason
Jazz Club is OK, but people don't mix and it's a good place to chill but personally I don't like to stay there for more than an hour or two. Food is nice there tho.

Babylon is a strip club :P

Biała Małpa is a great wee boozer, all kinds of mad beers.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Latest news on the topic:

Rangeland is saying it "was the victim of fraud"

The company voluntarily halted production at the factory after tests into a consignment of Polish beef found positive traces of horse DNA.
The company carried its own tests on the ingredient and informed the Department of Agriculture of the positive results last Thursday. The Department carried out further tests and received a positive result on Monday.

Life / Drivers and Mobile Phones In Poland [14]

see an increase of enforcement by the Polish authorities regarding drivers and the use of their mobile phones

I would like to see the enforcement of cops not taking bribes for misdemeanours like these.
Speeding fines are no problem, just hand the cop 100zl with you license and problem disappears.
It's a sad state of affairs but that's just how it is here.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Somebody is obviously telling porky pies.

"We're no longer talking about trace amounts of horse DNA in product. We're talking about horsemeat. Somebody, someplace, is drip-feeding horsemeat into the burger manufacturing industry. We don't know exactly where this is happening. All the documentary checks that we have on these shipments show they have come from Poland"

emirates247.com/offbeat/crazy-world/ireland-vows-to-id-source-of-horsemeat-labeled-polish-beef-2013-02-06-1.493988

Since this source is neither Irish, British nor Polish I could say it's far less biased in its reporting.

I don't know who to believe at the minute, paper work can easily be forged and meat producers in Ireland have done it in the past unfortunately.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

What a horribly condescending remark.
And absolute nonsense to boot.
Poland is quite obviously a 'first-world' country, to even suggest that it isn't is widely far of the mark and frankly idiotic.

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

Seriously, you going to spend the equivalent of a years wage on a party?

It's a good bit less than a year's wage, but yea, f!ck it, it's the only wedding I'm gonna have and sure it's only money, can always get more of it.

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

i dont give money at weddings

Well, you are totally uninvited from mine so :P

Mine cost 5K (50+ people), plus 2k for my suit.

zloty?
You're suit was half the price of the wedding?
Man, show me your ways, please! I've got 150+ coming to mine and there's no way it'll be less than 40,000zl

& we're not inviting children, told the people with kids not to bring any so they can have a better time without having to look after them :)

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

300 bottles of Vodka * 20pln = 6000pln

Man you got ripped off, vodka doesn't cost 20zl (^_^)

And it's one bottle per guest :P

Wedding will cost you at least 40-50,000zl
You;ll have to pay for all the grub, the band, the hotel rooms etc etc.
Worth it tho, you'll make a profit on it when people give you wedding envelopes :)

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

TOTALLY, as I said in another thread, you people should get out more often.

There's got to be a reason why you're so mean to people. Were you not given a hug as a child?

Best of luck with the job OP, but if they offer you less than 4500, tell them to shove it.

News / THE PARTYS OVER... NO MORE EUROS FOR POLAND'S ROADS [71]

the country does not exist? Or is being occupied?

So the occupiers built no roads? Zero?
I don't really get it.

And how come the roads down where I live in Silesia are, for the most part, quite good?......except Myslowice (dump)
I've been led to believe that local govt reinvested tax money into local infrastructure, while the rest of Poland didn't bother and that's why infrastructure is so bad.

UK, Ireland / Polish women that go "off the rails" in London [15]

. Maybe I should move to Zabrze :-)

Oh man, no, no, no, don't do that.....proper kip.....imagine 1970s Manchester, but more grim and smaller, way smaller.....and more smog.

On the plus side, you'd be an exotic foreigner and the clunge would be wet for you instantly :P
Tellin ya, if I had know that pasty white guys like me were considered exotic and sexy I'd have moved here when I was 18!

They're mad for Western Europeans. ;)
