Work / Finding work in Warsaw / Poland as an English private tutor [63]

I know the market for teachers in the big cities is saturated, so where are the jobs going to be?

maybe it is worthwhile to start looking in big cities' satelites like Otwock which is just next to Warsaw, (Warsaw has got a couple of satelite towns like Piaseczno, Pruszków) in Tricity area (Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia) you;ve got Wejherowo and Rumia which lie on the outskirts of Gdynia and Pruszcz on the other side next to Gdańsk - in case of Kraków you;ve got Skawina and Wieliczka - in Katowice area you've got also smaller satelite cities like Żory, Rybnik, Wodzisław, Jastrzębie,

Travel / Trip to Poznan and Torun [19]

Have you been to both places? If so, which would you choose to visit, bearing in mind, it would only be a day trip?

I studied in Wrocław and have only been once to Toruń - Toruń is a more cosy city especially the Old Town, but I don't know about the museums etc - the Old Town is simply nice to see as it is full of historic buildings from what I can tell - Toruń is also more of a Polish city than Wrocław (though the medieval churches were built by the Teutonic order) - has more Polish hisory to it

- Wrocław is far busier - lot's of people in the streets - and it's way bigger - if you wanted to see just a couple of old churches it would take 1 hour walk they are so far appart and they are typically not that beautiful inside - in Wrocław you need to go straight to the place you really want to see to save time (and there are only a couple of such important things of interest or beauty including Panorama Racławicka: panoramaraclawicka.pl/en/what_to_see.html) - and then just spend some time walking the main pedestrian streets

just found a website of Museum of Gingerbread in Toruń - muzeumpiernika.pl/?page=home-english - it looks like it is a live act

Travel / Trip to Poznan and Torun [19]

maybe try Kórnik castle - it has a beautiful park but sure it looks much better in summer - anyway Kórnik castle has some art and history - a trip with an English speaking guide costs 20 euro - it is a half an hour bus drive from Poznań - Kórnik castle is open 10 am -3 p.m on all days except monday

kornik.pl/en/home

there is a bus from central bus station in Poznań to kurnik at 9.30 but you need to ask the driver when to get off cause it proceeds well past Kórnik.

muzeum.uni.wroc.pl/kontakt

if you are into beautiful art Pam then the original building of the Wrocław University is worth a visit and pretty cheap (open on all days except wednesday)

She's very hardworking, excellent at languages, learns quickly.

why doesn't she try English philology - she can become a translator after this or at least English teaching college -then she becomes an English teacher

more precisely 6,66 per cent ;) - you now know why the Poles are so hated - they are the embodiment of the beast among God-fearing Lithuanians ;)

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

Lithuanian revival has been built upon denying any Polish influence on the country (and the influence was once immense) - that's why they even accepted Czech ortography and not Polish one to write their language (that's why they don't have a 'w' letter but 'v' instead and some other Czech features) - simply speakings Lithuanian intelectual elites since the time of their revival were anti Polish - they feared Polish culture would completely assimilate Lithuanians (political Lithuanian elites had been voluntarily polonised before in a long process)

Language / Quick question on Polish language fundamental [40]

I tried using Poszłam, but friends said it's not correct,

maybe they mean that you need to say 'Pojechałam' instead of 'Poszłam' - you sure know what 'Pojechać' means

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

an optimist simply heheh - internal demand that was driving Poland's growth is dwindling - energy prices will rise this year further decreasing the purchasing power of the populace - the growth of unemployment is unavoidable in this situation

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

lukaszwarzecha.salon24.pl/379102,wosp-dlaczego-nie-wielbie-owsiaka

an article in Polish on Owsiak - it takes courage in Poland to say that he won't give money to Owsiak

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

now imagine that Caritas is allowed to have such an action as Owsiak makes on the TV - I tell you it's an ideological issue - btw all those rockgroups that play in the WOśP final receive payment - it's a show - a show that allows people to quiet their consciousness throughout the year

1 hour of commercial time on the TV is about 1.5 million PLN (prime time is as much as four times more expensive) - now I don't know how much time is spent on Owsiak's show but years ago the Owsiak's publicity went for hours on the state-owned tv - let's say the time that is dedicated to Owsiak now is 5 hours - then it costs some 7.5 million - that's a significant present to Owsiak from a taxpayer's purse

btw Caritas collects 10 times more than Owsiak without any support from the state and has also a better result in how much value is spent on the real help - all this without media propaganda and without the donations from big business who want publicity and thus prefer the Owsiak action

you may call me stupid but Owsiak is not a politically neutral figure too

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

yes - the liberalisation of rail roads is strange thing to do - it caused a lot of trouble - it is difficult to separate the actual transporting operations from the infrastructure - on what basis do you for example create timetables when there are a couple of competing operators

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

I hear worrying things about poor value for money

sure it is - the broadcast time on the tv that they use is much more expensive (like tenfold or more) than the amount they typically collect - TV would do much better thing if they spent a day income from their commercials on charity

yes Owsiak is using this for self promotion
and yes it has another bad impact - people tend not to think about supporting charities unless there is some big action on the TV

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

t's not worked out well in the UK, and worse, we've had Deutsche Bahn buy up a British rail operator.

we have similar things - former Telekomunikacja Polska is now mostly owned by France Telecom which also is mostly government owned company

Travel / What is the cheapest way to get from Modlin airport to Warsaw? [106]

the Modlin airport airstrip is under reconstruction right now and is effectively shut down untill the works are finished which should take at least one week

you can catch a train from a nearby railway station to the city of Warsaw when the works are finished
