Love / Polish traditions and customs in a relationship - payments [39]

Skubus, that is not a marriage.

I do see that if she was raised in poverty she might have issues around money but.....she needs to move on now.

do you have children? having small children with a stay-at-home mum would be the only scenario where the man should pay for everything, and that would be a temporary situation.

Listen to what people are telling you.

Love / Polish traditions and customs in a relationship - payments [39]

She states that it is the male's responsibility to pay for everything.

I think some Polish women have a very different attitude to Irish and British women and need to be reminded that it is 2016 and it is not reasonable to expect the man to pay for everything. It is not even possible these days unless the man is very rich.

To me it seems really weird as well. I think she needs telling that it is not 1956.

I know it sounds a bit annoying for me to say this, but did you not discuss this kind of thing beforehand?

If this is a typical attitude, no wonder so many Polish men like to marry British and Irish women...:D

Law / Advice on rights for an unborn child in Poland [23]

Dont worry about these people who say you have no rights

look I have been a parent for many years now, and I can assure you that according to European family law the only person who has 'rights' is the child. that is the reality.

Don't be so unkind to tell someone that they 'have all rights' because you are deluded and ill informed.

the only 'rights' you have are eg safeguard and promote the child's health, development and welfare.
Probably not what Pigsy has in mind.

Law / Advice on rights for an unborn child in Poland [23]

so please tell how i can get rights on my future son?

you don't have rights. The child has rights, the parents have responsibilities. And no offence intended, but knocking up a girl on holiday is not all that responsible is it?

what are the legal formalities should be done to register me as father to my child.?

Best to ask your babymother as you will be able to do nothing without her.

it has been scientifically proven that getting cold lowers immunity.
All those generations of Polish/Irish/Italian etc etc grannies were right!
Never doubt what your granny tells you - she is usually correct...:)

Study / Primary school education for children (PRIVATE) [14]

The teachers would be dealing with the brightest students, without having to waste time on those not wanting to learn

you see it is that kind of attitude that really ****** me off. It seems that if a kid is already good at something then they are considered to be better people and more deserving than other kids who are perfectly well behaved but don't score highly in an IQ test.

So would teaching a kid who didn't score highly in an IQ test be a 'waste of time'?
Vile attitudes really.

History / Teaching our kids about Poland's History [57]

" the only British historian that says a lot of truth in his writings about Polish history,"

illogical sweeping statement surely? the only one? Really goofy?
Anyway I read that he is far from impartial in his treatment of who suffered in WW2, and that this has been a contentious issue.

I'm lost as to what meaning this could be.

Sorry Z if it is lost on you, I expect that like the rest of us, you are 'ignorant' 'uneducated' 'redneck' 'scum'..:D Join the club.

I joined PF to talk/ask about ski-ing in Zeleniec and somehow just never left.

Please don't use words out of their contents

context

What the hell is "crime de lèse majesté"?

it means insulting the royal family I think.
for example In October 2007, a 47-year-old man was sentenced to one week imprisonment and fined €400 for, amongst other things, lèse-majesté in the Netherlands when he called Queen Beatrix a w.hore and told a police officer that he would have anal sex with her because "she would like it". (wiki)

then I discovered the mosquitoes and ticks.

yes you do have a point there. My son ended up in hospital with blood poisoning from that, in Poland.
If only his Polish auntie had dressed him in sandals and socks and long trousers!!

Off-Topic / Since (stupid) stereotypes (about other countries) galore... [10]

What horrible things to say about people. Why on earth would you even be thinking like that , let alone writing it down on a public forum, and at the same time banging on about how wonderful and well travelled and cultured you are! Un-fecking-believable!

I think this thread should be zapped for being so very offensive to so many different people!

It should be said that only Polish men do this

I will never forget when my ex arrived to collect the kids wearing socks and sandals.
When I had finally stopped laughing and had wiped the tears from my eyes I asked if he was not worried about the fashion police pulling him over.....

for some reason he then got really upset with me....

That is different Adrian, you are American (I guess from your words), and fair play to your family for working hard. In the case of these old Euro families, trust me, it is different.

Anyone who is grasping at straws by boasting about having some wrinkly old "princess" in the family needs telling, frankly.

When I say "upper crust" i mean the richest.

I hate to tell you this, but that doesn't make them good people. IN fact quite the opposite. How did they get to be rich? by exploiting and killing people, that is how. Or possibly being a King's bumboy. I have some evil bankers in my family too,(just married in thank the Lord,) but I try to keep that to myself, as frankly I dont find people that made their money by raping and killing and exploiting anything to be proud of.

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

If you had watched your small child vomiting violently for hours, finally bringing up black bile, and then being unable to eat for weeks afterwards.....you might not be so convinced Delph.

I think there should be a rule against people without kids making silly generalisations about decisions that they will never have to make.

" Nobody is 'pushing' vaccination."

uh yeh they are, Jon. I know this as I have just been thro it all.
An HPV vaccination was practically forced onto my daughter at school (she was 13 at the time), even tho we had not given permission for her to have it. Personally I don't think schools are a place for mass experimentation of dodgy vaccines, but hey maybe that's just me.

I presume in semi-rural or small-town areas kids still explore and romp through the woods and thin

yes, exactly.
When we lived on the south coast, the fear of child services was hellish.
Once I had them called as my children were seen two-up on a scooter leaving the school without me..:) (they were ten or eleven at the time). when I say 'scooter' I don't mean a moped!

Is it like that in different areas of Poland I wonder?

Do UK-ers live in a police sttae where kids aren't allowed to play outdoors any more?

pretty much yes. I mean it is OK to take your children to a playpark and closely supervise them of course.
Certainly children cannot play outdoors in the same way that we did as kids.
The neighbours could well call child services even if they were in the playpark alone, even more likely if they were 'on the street'.
Although of course it does vary by area.

" staying glued to computer games instead of playing outdoors and getting fresh air and exercise."

that is all very well, Pollie, but I can assure you that if I had let my children 'play outdoors' I would have had child services hammering at the door. That is how it is in the UK these days, which only follows the USA.

No point in harking back to some non existent golden age anyway.

apart from Thin Lizzy we didn't have any bands

ahhh Tin Lizzy - pure genius!

I remember the first time I saw the Spice Girls........I was speechless. They were a total embarrassment but there you go Roz, that's the world of show business!

ha ha ha, yes another godawful band! I "think" I may have seen them live at Gay Pride circa 1997 - on the other hand I may not have - much of the 90s was like that...:)

I wonder which Polish bands make people go "ahhhh yes - fantastic times". what about Dzem?

" I don't think it was about his ego, I believe he was genuine."

Geldof's ego is massive. However I do agree that he was probably quite genuine in his desire to 'raise pennies for the little black babies' (lol). Just he was startlingly naïve.

Quite a balanced article about the Live Aid money, even if it is 10 years old.

theguardian.com/world/2005/jun/24/g8.debtrelief

Could I just add for the sake of it, the Boomtown Rats were a godawful band, unbelievably bad and talentless.
You can see this clearly when watching old re-runs of Top of the Pops (a lovely show invented by ...mm...interesting people).
How on earth were they successful?
Just saying.

Like Bog Geldof would care about Ethiopians.

you know what Ktos, that is the first post of yours that I agree with 100 per cent.
"Live aid" was a self aggrandising scam...:)
I actually doubt if any of the money went to the 'right' places.

Classifieds / ANY FOREIGNER (NOT POLISH) FAMILY ADVOCATE IN WARSAW [39]

" The dude didn't even crack a smileLOL "

He probably didn't understand what you meant but didn't want to admit it, in case people realised how bad his English was ..:)

One student in Greece told me she had just (before the class) 'put her baby down'..:) and then showed no interest when I attempted to explain why this phrase was not the best in this case..:)

Another used to tell me that she had just come from the "baby station" where she worked. (she meant nursery or crèche but had no desire to learn a correct word)
