the Romanians will mostly go to France and Italy as this is where they can communicate easier, maybe also Spain - I doubt there will be masses of Romanians coming to Britain

Language / 'Angielka Geniusz' - Is this correct in Polish? [6]

but why not "Geniusz Angielski"? An adjective goes after a noun, as I remember

Geniusz Angielski has specific connotations which I doubt you had in mind

and adjective can be placed before or after the noun but both have specific uses - in the plain use you place the adjective before the noun

biały orzeł is something different to Orzeł Biały

albo "Genialna Angielka"

he is clearly not an Angielka :P;)

what ban do you mean - there is no ban - there was only an appeal from internauts to withdraw the campaign - PTC folks told they will withdraw the campaign but they simply lied cause the campaing is well and kicking

I always thought that namedays correspond with saints (them being on the calendar)

significant part if not most - yes - but there is a big number of name days that do not correspond to any saints

Tarnów - Tarnowa
Kraków - Krakowa
Tomaszów -Tomaszowa
Snów - Snowa

the name from the title should be Snowie in the nominative but it still remains just a thought up place

look for a book titled "The Unseen Power in I Am" - you can find it on ebay and it's not that expensive (I doubt you will find Al-Anon in English in Warsaw) - in that book you will find prayers that will help you overcome the additction

Genealogy / Where is Snowia in Poland? (pre war) [13]

I am looking for a place called Snowia in Poland pre war. Does anybody know where this place is or was located? It may have been demolished during the war. A map of its location would be very helpful. Hope somebody can help.

google doesn't give any results for post-war Poland, maybe the place is now in Ukraine, Lithuania or Belarus.

as far as I know you need to start applying for a residence permit from scratch - if you are offered a job in Poland I think it's safe to come here and apply from within Poland by contacting a branch of Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców which are located in every seat of voievod.

Lubiłabym Kawę. Why is this not correct ?

would like in it's typical meaning (polite form) is simply translated into Polish as 'chciałabym/chciałbym' - you have to learn to live with it

'Lubiłabym' can be only translated into English "I would like' in conditional sentence "I would like him if he were nice but he isn't" Lubiłabym go gdyby był miły, ale on nie jest miły.

Firstly, I was wondering what the deal is with seeing a GP? Do I need to sign up at a surgery, or are there places you can just turn up?

you have to be registered with a GP in a 'przychodnia' (a health centre) but it's actually only one form away from you - if you work here you are already medically insured (unless you work freelance) (you need to have 'legitymacja ubezpieczeniowa' - your employer should arrange you one)

The word rence

ręce

w ręce - in one's hand - locative
w rękę - in(to) one's hand - accusative - when there is movement involved like in(to), onto you always use accusative

it's similar in German:

- in (den) Kino - dative - in cinema
ins (=in+das) Kino - accusative - into cinema

And what do you do with a foreigner whose first name is Freddy? As far as I know there is no saint by that name

it's no longer only the saints that the name days are celebrated after - there are lots of Polish Slavic names that don't have corresponding saints and have name days nethertheless
