UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

he difference is though the British opened the arms to a seemingly unlimited flow of foreigners

The governments did (and both parties are in agreement on the issue and don't care what the public wants so the policy cannot be stopped by voting)

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

I've never lived in the UK (and have no desire to) but I did pay a lot of attention to the British press in the aftermath of Poland joining the EU (along with Polish media cause I live here)

At the time the Polish government was more or less openly encouraging people to leave for the UK with glowing stories about how great Poles were doing there while the British press was a lot more.... subdued. Not that overtly negative but hardly positive and critical on occasion (I remember one guy who'd lost his living arrangement and friends said he could stay in their second house with the Polish couple who were supposed to be caretakers. He found out they were renting out rooms (without telling the owners) and engaged in lots of petty dishonesty like burning through phone agreements (getting a phone and not paying until they cut off service and then going back with a slightly different version of their names).

Anti-Polish feeling might seem greater than it is because people unconsciously absorbed government propaganda meant to get them off the domestic rolls of the unemployed (when Poland wasn't really creating jobs) which was different from the reality on the ground.

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

Stats say otherwise: roughly half were against, half for

And half against did not manifest their opposition in any meaningful way...

Polish opinion in the Bosnian way was overwhelmingly apathetic (I remember trying to talk about it and being met with blank stares and shrugs). I will say that there wasn't support for the Croats on religious grounds (they were remembered as nazi collaborators but then so were Hungarians and Slovaks and it wasn't held against them) but not much for the other sides either.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

there's two flights leaving everyday from Chicago to Warsaw

And there's 9 flights a day between the British Isles and Wrocław on cheap airlines

Infrastructure matters and the combination of distance plus expense means less travel and more losing contact. Also as a recent group Poles in the UK maintain more contact with each other and family in Poland. there's no big movement of Poles to the US and there hasn't been in a long time, there's no equivalent of the intense back and forth between Poland and the British Isles (not to mention Germany, Belgium, Scandinavia, Italy....)

Poles in the US are fewer on the ground and more integrated into US society (since most arrived before the fetid multicultural flower bloomed). People in Poland mostly regard American Polonia as out of touch and more concerned with things of little interest to most Poles in Poland while Poles in the British Isles (Germany etc) are family, friends and neighbors living between two countries....

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

Polish Americans are a different breed.I haven't quite worked out why yet, even after all these years. But they just don't think like Poles.

It's further away and harder to travel back and forth so often. Some time ago a friend spent a year in the US (not too far from the Great Lakes) and said all the Poles had frozen their ideas of Poland based on when they left. Those that left in the 80s thought there were still lines and ration cards, those that left in the 90s thought that it was still the kind of wild west capitalism of the early 1990s...

The UK Polonia is mostly newer and still travels back and forth a lot so they might get a little out of date but are more au courant than American Poles.

America should be a policeman to the world.....only when

Good question, it's impossible to point out a good result of american foreign meddling in the last 30 or so years... Iraq? Aghanistan? Libya? Shameful failures all.

Germany on the right side of history again? Migrants intimidate cops trying to deport on their fellows, he escapes and has gone into hiding...

What gives the German government the idea that it should have any influence on who's allowed to stay in the country anyway...

Work / Should I move Wroclaw in 3M as a Rpa lead Developer from India ? [9]

t I can pull her here first and then she can search for job and grab a job ?

As a girlfriend, none. If you put a ring on it and she comes as a spouse then you'll have to ask the migration office if she can look for a job legally.

News / "It's too late for Germany" (but not for Poland) [1798]

Before Roosevelt there was zero safety net for sudden job loss or illness

Not the same thing at all as saying there was no middle class.

Trump, aided by the wake of Reaganism

Reaganism is dead (Hillary was the Reaganist candidate in the last election, not Trump who ran on the kind of populist campaign that's inconceivable to a REaganite like Hillary). But Trump can't work against both parties to turn that horrible frankenstein back into the grave where it belongs.

The US is currently in a period of realignment from Neoliberalism to Populism the question is who can get ahead of the party elites (both parties) and make it happen.

before FDR's New Deal the WAS NO MIDDLE CLASS

nonsense.... there was no social safety net, but that's not the same thing at all

The extreme inequality was a feature of the Gilded Age and exacerbated by high levels of immigration, the shutdown of immigration in the early 20s helped create the Great Compression (the time of least stratification/economic inequality in US history). I'm a child of the compression but the elites have drug the country back into a new gilded age, full of status vvhoring and high immigration.

Sanders (should he run and win in 2020) might end up rolling some of that back. Trump (another child of the compression) was elected to do that but hasn't been able with the power structures of both parties working against him.

we do not judge the majority by the actions of a minority

Which in practice means not judging the actions of the minority either....

How's that integration going?

stood on Israel's borders and helped bring in muslim migrants

notice how many Israelis want African migrants to stay (seemingly ignorant of the fact that their attitude could help Africans flood over Israel and make it a non-Jewish state in very short order)

penny wise, pound foolish

People say they're so smart, but they can't exist without antagonizing all around them and supporting causes that hurt them (communism in the CCCP for instance)....

So weird that so many Jewish organizations seem intent on proving Kevin MacDonald right....

Meanwhile we'll take in Germany their best and brightest young people

Sorry Tacitus, but young Polish people aren't as nearly as anti-semitic as Merkel's preferred migrants. Guess you need to raid the middle east for more people to attack those in Jewish attire on the streets...

News / Poland, The Starbucks report. [42]

Any love for Pożegnanie z Afryką (Out of Africa)?

It seemed to be a Polish chain of coffee shops that started in the 1990s, a bit funky but maybe ahead of its time.

News / "It's too late for Germany" (but not for Poland) [1798]

In topic related news, a whopping 63% of Germans think the integration of migrants has been either "not very" or "not at all" successful.

The total for Poland is 39 %.

Of the countries with lots of migrants, Swedes are the unhappy with 73 percent claiming integration has been unsuccessful.

Of course they don't provide information about which migrants....

The information comes from the European Commission which probably will conclude that what's needed to counteract these numbers is more migration...

relativizing the albeite legitimate sufferings of black Africans as comparable with that of the Jews.

Not my point, a relatively tiny percentage of the German population actually carried out the holocaust while a much larger percentage of Hutus were directly involved in killing Tutsis. Where is collective guilt more fitting, where 1 or 2 % of the population (if that) actually were physical killers or where a much higher percentage of the population were hacking at their countrymen with machetes in front of everyone?

Crow, you're jealous of those guilty of genocide? Give it up, Poland will never help Serbia and Russia commit genocide in Kosovo. No. Won't happen. Find another fantasy.

News / EU budget revamp set to shift funds to southern states. What can Poland do about this? [12]

diverting money from countries such as Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic to those hit hard by the financial crisis such as Spain and Greece.

Shouldn't that be diverting money to service economies that have no hope of solvency in the pseudo-currency (actually a loan shark scheme) known as the Euro?

Or.... diverting money to the economies they have done the most damage to with their German-centric monetary policy?

Poland does not even make it into Germany's too 5.

You do realize you sound about a half a degree away from a colonial power threatening the natives, don't you?

News / "It's too late for Germany" (but not for Poland) [1798]

a veritable sui generis, as I've stated before.

Dude, you need to read more about genocide in the 20th century.... the only unique thing about the holocaust was the bureaucratic efficiency and industrialization of genocide.

Compared to more recent slaughters like Rwanda, planned so as to make a very large proportion of the population into perpetrators, it can be argued that by industrialization only a very small percentage of Germans took an active part and therefore Germans should feel less collective guilt than should Hutus (since such a large percentage of them were active in hacking people to death).

Love / Cards for occasions - Polish custom for couples? [4]

Hard to say without knowing what special occasions you're talking about. But Poland is not really a card giving culture. Until well after the communist period there was hardly any such thing (there were special postcards used in some contexts....)

There are cards now but giving them is very far from a general common custom. Small (often kind of symbolic) gifts are the norm.

Law / Poland's residence permit after marriage to a Polish citizen [24]

. now since i just got married 2 days ago and my visa will expire at the end of may, that does not pass 3 months since the marriage certificate is issued!

not earlier than three months means (to me) within three months of getting married, but what it says in English is less important than what it says in Polish which is why your wife should be doing the checking....
