Law / Polish citizen returning to Poland after 26 years - Zameldowanie Question? [7]

You get id from mayor of the city where you are registered. So logically registration is first. But Poles living abroad can get ID without zameldowanie (adres zameldowania field in ID will be empty) in the city where they were born i think. I don't think there are any special procedures for you. Don't forget to make health insurance.

News / Poland to sign FATCA, USA will get information about bank accounts [67]

Poland is going to sign FATCA, thanks to the agreement USA will get information about Polish bank accounts of Americans and Poles with green card. Perhaps it may interest some users.

Study / Canadian Pol wants to study in Warsaw Poland [9]

What do they teach in "science" ? As I understand you want to study in Polish? Do you have Polish passport? Here they mention requirements for foreign Matura recognition: zielonalinia.gov.pl/Nostryfikacja-swiadectw-szkolnych-i-maturalnych-39584

And what is in Poland what you don't find in Canada ?

Life / Is there social housing in Poland? [6]

I've heard that since few years some cities evict to such "temporary" housing tenants of public houses who don't pay rent for years. They're showing those "houses" in Wiadomości.

USA, Canada / Returning to Poland! Has anyone seen this influx of people from the US? [27]

I've just listened to an interview with an American from Chicago who moved to Poland in 80', because he didn't feel good there, as a son of Polish immigrants.

tokfm.pl/Tokfm/0,131261.html?str=4_13352339 - click Los Polandos (14.05.2011)
Btw. for those who understand Polish I recommend all episodes. It's radio program which makes interview with foreigners living in Poland for the last few years. Who from the forum spoke there :)?

As for the question, I think that there are some states doing quite well and Poles working in USA legally are not forced to move back to Poland. Official unemployment rate of USA is very low as for European standards - around 7% vs for example 11% in Poland. But what is reality? (or rather which numbers are comparable) For example here they say that real unemployment is around 23% (Spanish level), because government doesn't count people unemployed for the long time:

Law / Student. Looking for a way to extend my stay in Poland by study (to eventually apply for permanent residence) [19]

I will take a look at how the curriculum looks like and what it is all about.

If you mean business, then it's the same as with music industry. You need to know people to get a job. Or make your own business, but for that you need money, ideas, know how, but not necessary diploma in business. So don't look at it as job giving paper. So in my opinion it's worth studying only in expensive elite business schools, where you can meet children of rich parents.

Just out of curiosity, do you think some certificates might help anyhow? Like TORFL, TestDaF or C1 level in Polish?

If you will have free time you can make them, but if you don't have too much money, better invest them into language course, not certificate. Language certificates are needed when they're required, for example for work in public sector (there you need high level certificate of a country language) or you want to study abroad. In other cases certificate will not be important.

If only you're ok working for long hours in front of computer and can grasp programming at least on basic level, then IT is the best investment. It's much better to do bachelor in IT than master in languages, business or economy. Except if it's some niche language, valuable for outsourcing companies in Poland, like Norwegian, Swedish or Danish it has no sense to invest 2 years of study into learning them. MSc is just a paper and what employer care is weather you know Norwegian or Java, not weather you have MSc in

philology, especially that it's quite easy to check the knowledge.

Despite of that if you want to study one of this programs, then I would suggest choosing Economy and learning German out of school. Then you have chance of finding job in some outsourcing center.

A list of IT programs in Poland in English:

On the other hand, whatever you choose, the music will be obstacle for you. If you want to have a job, start treating it as a weekend hobby.

I don't need permit to work and if I happen to find an employer I should be able to get this 'Working visa' you mentioned.

This website which I linked to says that you don't need work permit from wojewoda, that means that your potential employer doesn't have to prove that there is nobody in Poland who could do the same job. You should apply for work visa.

here migrant they say:

Work visas
An applicant for work visa must submit:
- work permit
- a declaration of the intention to entrust a job to a foreigner
Work visas will be issued for the amount of time corresponding to the work permit or intent to hire a worker. It may not be longer than allowed by the specific work visa scheme

So you don't need work permit, but only this declaration. What it is look here: Declaration_of_the_intention_to_entrust_a_job_to_a_foreigner.html

Your employer should fill it, and you apply. I think it must be full employment and minimum salary should be sufficient, because I don't see anywhere information that it's not.

What in your opinion might be the most promising one to read if I wanted to settle in Poland and get a job?

IT is the most promising.

Work / Living in Katowice (programmer, 3000 PLN) - is it enough? [65]

No, it isn't. Only RELEVANT work experience is valuable.

You cannot say that it isn't, not knowing details. For example work for IBM support, learning their systems can be relevant for someone who doesn't want to be programmer or administrator.

Why don't you investigate the possibility of getting Working Visa as I told you, for graduate of Polish university? Working Visa means that you can stay in Poland too :) Give this link to your colleague who has an agency

"Oprócz tego odrębne rozporządzenie Ministra Pracy i Polityki Społecznej (Dz.U. 2006, nr 156, poz. 1116) określa jeszcze 26 przypadków, w których cudzoziemiec nie musi starać się o pozwolenie na pracę. Są to m.in. sytuacje, w których pracującymi są: absolwenci polskich szkół ponadgimnazjalnych" - that means "according to some law graduate of schools above gymnasium don't need permit for work"

Without a work permit can only hire a foreigner who is a citizen of an EU country or Norway , Iceland and Switzerland. In other cases, we must submit an application on behalf of the governor of the relevant permit . However, there are exceptions to this rule.

2. Check this: forummigracyjne.org/files/124/legalizacja_studentow-ENG.pdf I think they don't five visa for learning Polish easily.

3. There are foreigners studying in Gdańsk. Should be ok.

4. You will be able to read subjects in German and Spanish language

UK, Ireland / EEA family permit from Poland to UK - time and process [60]

Make civil marriage in UK, so your husband can get Visa. Invite there your friends from UK only. Then make later church marriage in Poland, as according to Polish tradition it should be in bride place. Invite there just parents of groom and your family. Later do reception in USA, so you can meet your new American family.

If you're from IT then you can find more attractive city. If you target Poland, then check Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Poznań or even Warszawa. Just browse advertised adds. Here are those with word Finnish in it: pracuj.pl/praca/Finnish;kw

And Katowice is not a nice city.

Law / Permanent stay in Poland for a engaged brazilian? [9]

Use google translate often. Especially translate my quotations and websites which I've linked to.

Do you know how to take 'individual study (nauka supposed to studia)' into this calculation formula?

"Do okresu pobytu, o którym mowa powyżej, zalicza się połowę okresu pobytu cudzoziemca na podstawie wizy udzielonej w związku z odbywaniem studiów lub szkolenia zawodowego lub na podstawie zezwolenia na zamieszkanie na czas oznaczony, udzielonego w związku z podjęciem lub kontynuacją stacjonarnych studiów wyższych lub stacjonarnych studiów doktoranckich." - from my understanding individual study would count as any study, which is 50%.

Does it apply to an undergraduate as well? I am yet to start on a master's degree. In Polish, I would have to say I am a licencjat. My licentiate study was a stationary one.

as it says here "będących absolwentami polskich szkół ponadgimnazjalnych, stacjonarnych studiów wyższych lub stacjonarnych studiów doktoranckich na polskich uczelniach, w instytutach naukowych Polskiej Akademii Nauk lub instytutach badawczych działających na podstawie przepisów o instytutach badawczych;" licencjat is ok as long as it was not extramural.

: Do you know what kind of jobs might fall into this category? As you already pointed out, it is very difficult (if not impossible) for an undergraduate with performing music degree to find a job. Would it be sufficient if I somehow got a teaching job at a private music or English school?

I don't know that's why I told you to find out. Maybe they say here: migrant.info.pl/Permit_to_settle.html. Maybe somebody else in this forum knows. I would guess that it must be full time employment, better for more than minimum salary. I think you can ask Wojewoda office for best information. The lawyer writing here should know it too: karta-pobytu.pl/porada_prawna/3587/Nieprzerwany-pobyt-w-Polsce

Law / Permanent stay in Poland for a engaged brazilian? [9]

So according to my link you should count 50% of your time spent in Poland studying, when applying for " pobyt rezydenta długoterminowego"

The period of stay referred to above includes half of the period of stay of a foreigner on the basis of a visa granted in connection with studies or vocational training or on the basis of a residence permit for a fixed period, granted in connection with the start or continuation of full-time or part-time studies PhD.

and you write:

I have finished 4 academic-years of music degree in Warsaw - 1 year of Staż artystyczny (it's meant to be a post-graduate diploma course but in my case it was the starter) and 3-year-long Bachelor of Music course.

I am not sure what is " - 1 year of Staż artystyczny", but I guess that it's 4 years study + 1 work + 3 study is converted to (4 + 3)/2 + 1 = 4.5. So if you can stay up to full 5 years and meet all other conditions, like:

- you haven't left Poland in last 5 years for more than 6 months per year and less than 10 months total
- you have a job
- you have insurance
, then you can apply for long-term residence permit to your "wojewoda"

So now if you don't have work visa you should find some company which would like to sponsor your visa. Unfortunately as far as I know artists don't have it easy when searching for job.

But I think that graduates of Polish universities have a right for 1 or 2 year work permit. So IMHO you should go into this direction. Then learn what does it mean "stable resources sufficient to live without recourse to the social assistance system of the EU country concerned;" and find a job which meets this criteria.

If it's impossible and you have some money you can fake employment. For example you officially work for somebody for 1 year, you get average salary, you pay all taxes, but in realty you return half (or more) of your net income to employer.

Here I read about graduated of Polish universities not requiring work permit:

At the same time, in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of 20 July 2011 on cases in which it is permissible to perform work for a foreigner on the territory of the Republic of Poland without the need to obtain a work permit (Journal of Laws of 2011, No. 155 , item 919) from the obligation to obtain a work permit, foreigners were released:(...) graduates of Polish upper secondary schools, full-time studies or full-time doctoral studies at Polish universities, at scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences or research institutes operating on the basis of regulations on research institutes;

This website explains also procedures, so you should search how to proceed with work search/permit there IMHO.

Law / List of banks from Poland offering free ATM withdrawals and spending worldwide? [12]

but it's not so simple to choose proper bank, because withdrawing money can be free, but only if you have PLN card. Then they charge you for money exchange and exchange rates vary quite a lot. There is even difference in the way how many times bank does currency conversion: some do 2 times when you use the card for example in Turkey: PLN -> EUR -> TRY, while other do one exchange PLN -> TRY.
