News / Poles, Polonians and aliens on Pussy Riot? [182]

"Separation of church and state" isn't about protecting the state from the church, it's about protecting the church from the state, as in, not making an official state religion.

It is about religion remaining outside public life and people being free of religious influence in lawmaking and the workplace.

Freedom of religion does not mean freedom FROM religion

Actually it does mean exactly that for those who want to be free not to follow the religious rules of others.

Of course religious people have the right to push and vote for laws congruent with their beliefs....

As long as they (regardless of majority or minority) do not take any sort of precedence over laws which are in conflict with their religious views.

But it's not "lying about the opportunistic land grab in Teschen", is it?

Yes, it is.It was a military invasion. By the way, the English translation is 'annexation' rather than addition, a word which leaves plenty unsaid.

Travel / Warsaw airport to Bus Station Wilanowska stand number 14 [22]

Indeed. It's worth avoiding some of the specially cheap trains like the Pociag Sloneczny to Gdansk on public holiday weekends, but otherwise I can't see much of an advantage in coach travel, especially since Poland has cheap and good railways. I wonder why the OP booked it.

It doesn't surprise me they lied about the opportunistic land grab in Teschen. I suspect that omission is one of several.

That's a shame. I used to enjoy sitting in the Wars car sipping a beer and watching the countryside roll by. Nevertheless, going so far on small roads by bus is much, much less comfortable and not much cheaper. Plus you can't get up and walk about.

It's still a bus which nobody needs to get unless they' either on the breadline or mean and frankly TLK is also downmarket travel. There are normal trains to Bialystok. Comfortable, you can stretch your legs and there is a dining car with drinks.

It should only be about €12 to Metro Wilanowska in a taxi. If you're determined to do it more cheaply get the 175 to Metro Centrum or the 188 to Metro Politechnika (whichever comes first) and get the Metro a few stops. It shouldn't take too long.

If there are any delays with baggage etc you should just jump in a taxi.

A better idea is to forget the bus to Bialystok - it is a bumpy and tiresome journey. Get the train instead; it is less uncomfortable and there will be fewer riff-raff.

Love / How would Polish people react to a forginer in Poland? [36]

im a tall 6foot 5 (gonna be) hispanic and part hawian and im also half white(my moms side are all almost european) and im really muscular what are my chances with girls? 18-30 year old polish chicks?:)

Dependa how heavy you are. Overweight guys they've got already and muscles are associated with low intelligence - if you're slim and intellectual you might have a chance.

Lenka
Exactly. The paranoid 'right-wing' normally want to have their cake and eat it while putting emotion above common sense. Many of the posts in this thread are no exception.

Someone who sticks staunchly to the tenets of their faith are fundamentalists

I'd narrow it down a bit and say that a fundamentalist holds an inflexible interpretation of religious minutiae and believes those principles are inerrant and should be imposed on others.

According to wiki Theo Van Gogh was murdered as he was cycling to work in the early morning of 2 November 2004, in front of the Amsterdam East borough office on the corner of the Linnaeusstraat and Tweede Oosterparkstraat.

So you're suggesting the offended Russian Orthodox people should take a leaf from the murderer of Theo van Gogh's book?

Should they be summarily lambasted for their abysmal stupidity?

Well, you do exactly that often enough on here.

It seems you have one rule for some and another rulle for others. Like those brave girls who spoke out about the Putin regime.

Things will get far worse there before they get better. It isn't that long ago that they were poisoning dissidents in London restaurants and as oil prices steadily increase decade by decade they will become almost untouchable. It's naive to think that Putin hasn't thought about his successor and even more naive to think that there will be a normal democratic process.

Exactly - fanaticism and repression feeding off one another. If a protest against a particularly distasteful regime offends certain individuals because it took place in their church, they should perhaps look a bit closer at the way the founder of their religion behaved.

Or expressing an honest opinion. The girls are in the right, the off-centre religious extremists who bayed for their blood in an orchestrated campaign are wrong.

Easy to see which philosophy is better for the world.

The real issue is the Church's disrespect of the people of that country by flagrantly supporting the regime.

Pussie Riot did the right thing. The god-botherers should be ashamed of themselves.

As far as I know they just sang in front of the rather small congregation. One of their many impromptu performances in unusual places. They didn't even finish the song since they were bundled away by goons. Nobody took any notice until quite a while after appeared on YouTube and Putin's together with fringe religious fundamentalists started signing identical photocopied complaints that they'd been mortally offended.

Incidentally they crossed themselves and bowed to the altar before singing.

It isn't at all the equivalent. The place where Jesus staged his own Pussie Riot was the temple at Jerusalem, the absolute centre of the Jehovah cult, the place where God chose that his name would dwell as the OT calls it. The protest in Moscow was in a city centre church chosen for media impact.

I suspect Jesus would have heartily approved.

National Bolshevik rubble Obbamination

??????

Now, these bimbos above really need a few years to cool off

Really. So would you have jailed Jesus for staging a protest in a place of worship?

They defaced a Cathedral. Fvck that kind of behaviour. Freedom of speech does not mean you can go around crapping on what other people hold sacred and doing random acts of vandalism. Labeling these b!tches as "hooligans" is quite proper

How would you described someone who staged a happening (for example driving out money changers) in the courtyard of a temple?

What should Putin's sentence be for his alleged crimes?

That's for a court to decide, however since there's evidence he ordered people to be murdered, I would imagine a pretty long one.
