Travel / What is the cheapest way to get from Modlin airport to Warsaw? [106]

Unfortunately the buses aren't co-ordinated with train times. I got the shuttle bus and was sitting on a stationery train for over an hour. the train timetable displayed in Modlin Station is also ficticious. The bus conductress also does not keep a float of change and doesn't even seem to understand the concept of a float or that airport cash dispensers give notes rather than coins!

I suppose if you're lucky on the offchance it might be convenient, otherwise a bus or taxi into town is the best bet.

Travel / Dreamliner for Lot Polish [27]

It's worth getting the very best. It would also be nice if they bought European rather than from another continent.

Travel / Dreamliner for Lot Polish [27]

Really, showers. My company's a very heavy user on Emirates and usually get upgrades from business to first on certain routes. My boss went Dubai to Europe on one of the new planes and had a shower on the way.

Unfortunately they usually send me back to Warsaw via Istanbul or Amman where the planes look like the Wright Brothers built them.

They have showers and a spa upstairs! Even in steerage it's quite nice.

This one is much posher. Though I think the airline decides the legroom rather than the manufacturer.

They're very nice, but the new European Airbus is much much better.

News / Children licking cream off a Polish priest's legs "inappropriate" says NGO [116]

13 year old girls licking cream off a grown man's legs cannot be called innocent. At best it's a serious error of judgement. At worst it's child abuse. The guy in question may well have been one of that percentage of men who wouldn't get a sexual thrill out of it, but without evidence to the contrary it is rather unlikely.

An as a priest he should certainly have known better.

Marcus911,I'd never heard about this in religious circumcision, that is disgusting. Is this still practiced in Judaism?

It's actually extremely rare and has been so for centuries. Denizens of the internet sometimes like to trot it out though, for reasons of their own.It was originally done for hygiene reasons but fell out of favour when people realised that it wasn't such a hygenic idea.

Lubin.

A different kettle of fish, but very much in the backwoods.

News / Rest in Peace Anna Walentynowicz or is it...?! [63]

"I don't read/listen Radio Maryja, Niezalezna.pl because they are not reliable... why? because only the opposition voters and old people read/listen to them!!

I don't read/listen to that sort of thing because it's polemicised unreliable discredited trash. You might understand that if you were a little more discriminating and/or lived in our country.

Will you then believe that Smolensk Crash was indeed a planted explosive device???

It wasn't.

Use Occam's Razor.

There was absolutely no reason to kill that dreadful one-term president.

What bad taste it is to disturb human remains for no good reason.

I think that Radio Maryja or Niezalezna.pl are one of the most reliable sources of information

Fortunately most people are not so daft.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

It's actually marmalade with a tiny amount of whisky stirred in while it's cooling. Usually bought, and a popular souvenir from Scotland.

You can buy it in Poland.

Not my sort of people, but I'm sure they don't.

Putting whisky into marmalade though, is strictly bourgeois.

;-)

So, drinking Black Label whisky puts you only one class above? I thought it would be two classes at least! :):):):)

Depends if you ruin it with coke or not.

Language / how do you pronounce the word niesamowity? [8]

There are no two words here. The difference in suffix relates to gender.

Exactly.

I'm Polish, so i knew the word ;)

In which case, I'm sure you'll agree with both the translator and myself.

Language / how do you pronounce the word niesamowity? [8]

It means "amazing".

I checked out the link you gave (I normally wouldn't touch an online translator), and I think you'll find it agrees with my translation. The difference is all in one final letter.

Language / how do you pronounce the word niesamowity? [8]

It would help quite a lot if you said where you're from in order to give you a more accurate pronunciation guide., but 'nye sam o vee ty' might help you. There's also 'niesamowite' pronounced something like 'nye sam o vee teh'. Accent on the 'vee' in both words. The first, 'niesamowity' means something like 'uncanny', 'eerie' etc and the second, 'niesamowite' which means 'amazing'.

Travel / The definitive list of things to do and see in Warsaw. [11]

Meta on ul. Foksal is even better thank Przekąski/Zakąski, imho

That's one of my haunts too. It's best late at night.
For another couple of late nght ones, I'd add Bar Warszawa (like Meta but bigger) at the bottom end of Miodowa and maybe Drink Bar on Wspolna.

details on the complex at Fort Mokotow.

It isn't an organised complex, but the address is ul. Raclawicka. The only bars on Raclawicka are there.

Life / Polish Hiphop priest, Father Jakub Bartczak, releases video [9]

Catholicism is the original Christian faith from which the Eastern Orhtodox split off.

The Orthodox often say the opposite is true.

I would say that the Jerusalemite church were the original Christian faith from which the Paulines separated.

A hip hop Priest shouldn't attract too much surprise - there's a long tradition (c.f. Vivaldi) of clergy being musicians.

News / Exorcist monthly goes on sale in Poland [17]

That makes a lot of sense - live a good life and if there is something in religions (which is frankly unlikely) that's only a plus.

Language / "bibshite" Is this is an actual polish phrase and if so what does it mean? [25]

Spieprzaj you can translate as get lost or piss off

It's almost certainly 'spieprzaj', pronounced a bit like 'speeyepshy' and literally meaning 'fuck off'; though as Zazulka says, it's closer in tone to 'sod off' or bugger off'. It is regarded as obscene and very offensive in Polish.

So, sorry, the little git is telling you to fuck off. If that happened in a Polish primary school, the parents would be informed and there would be something of a minor shitstorm. Just a shame you can't cane them any more ;-)
