News / The consequences of a PiS electoral victory [22]

More likely the ERussians would just ignore those jokers as they did when they were briefly in office.

the 4th Republic project could be resumed

Which the electorate showed they do not want - nor would it be constitutionally permissible.

we could expect to see purges in public life, as well as private opponents being hounded.

We could expect more mass emigration and political refugees, as in th edays of the PRL.

We could also expect more angry demonstratiions from expat Poles, as we saw when the PiS ex-Premier Marcinkiewicz (with or without his mistress) attended Chatham House in London and had to be smuggled out of the fire door.

Off-Topic / Rotten West vs. Innocent Poland [25]

With kids, though?

Sure, provided the lady or gentleman was entirely professional.

criminal records checks for teachers were only brought in not so long ago, and the whole concept of "safeguarding" doesn't exist here.

Shocking.

but I certainly wouldn't want an alcoholic teacher anywhere near our school.

Providing they turn up on time, do the job well and don't have the mood swings etc I wouldn't really mind.

Missing Megan Stammers: School Was 'Warned About Romance With Teacher Jeremy Forrest Seven Months Ago'

I bet it's happened in Poland too.

News / Poland marching for faith and freedom [43]

if it were on the digital paltform

If it were on the digital platform it would have to have applied correctly and disclosed the same information about finances as the other stations.

like other stations

Who applied correctly and followed the rules.

homo terrorism

Can you cite any example of 'homo (your favourite subject) terrorism'?
Thought not - you just watched some nutty and extreme foreign documentary on a fringe TV station.

News / Poland marching for faith and freedom [43]

So another 'march' whipped up by rabble rousers, deterring shoppers from going to the route on a busy day for retail and attended by the sort of people who shouldn't even be allowed into big cities.

:-(

News / Rest in Peace Anna Walentynowicz or is it...?! [63]

If she really did, for the sake of tact that might have been the best decision.

After all, at that particular time every nutter in the land was coming out with wild conspiracy theories and wanting to know intrusive details about autopsies etc. the best thing for her to have done would have been not to answer such vexatios questions.

TV Trwam, teh voice of truth and common sense,

That's something I've never heard it called.

In other words, a bunch of bitter people who think that they should get the world without actually working for it.

I just wish to point out that the Solidarność of 2012 has nothing to do with Solidarność of 1980/1981.

Spot on.

Life / Want to watch BBC iplayer in Poland? [59]

overplay

I haven't seen that one yet - worth checking out maybe.

I like Astrill because it has huge bandwidth. HMA is good and not expensive.

History / People the Soviets planted in Poland [75]

Pretending that something like that is a fact rather stretches credibility, not that the OP has yet demonstrated any.

History / People the Soviets planted in Poland [75]

In the worst-case scenario of Communist collapse, their medium term goal was to infiltrate the body politic and military and to ensure that bad business practice and corruption delivered:

So that's who they're b;aming it on now. I wonder who was to blame for the bad business practice and corruption in the Second Republic. And the First Republic.

Hang on a minute, this is PF. Does the answer begin with a J?

The byword - credibility. "Of course people in these circles would say this or do that - it's normal isn't it?" - that's the reaction they seek.

Honestly, you see conspiracies everywhere. Reds under the bed!

Life / "Protestant" or Non Catholic communities in Poland [18]

One of the most colourful denominations are the Catholic Mariavites of Felcjanowo near Płock

The Old Catholic Mariavites have quite a presence in Plock itself and a particularly beautiful cathedral. There's a parish in Warsaw too and several dioceses around Poland.

They were particularly persecuted back in the 1930s.

The Felicianowo ones are the much smaller Orthodox Mariavites. These are the ones with female clergy. They do not encourage strangers or attention of any sort.

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

maybe, but legally about 20 % so paying more will be goodwill, not law

No. He fathered it, he pays for it.

The courts have to be reasonable

Poland has a codex rather than common law. This means that they don't have to be reasonable, they just have to follow the rules to the letter.

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

400 zlot

80 quid?

I spend 3 times that on taxis. He should pay at least half his wage or keep his flies fastened.
