Life / Fake goods in Poland [42]

That's only a small part of the point. Part of the role of the police is crime prevention and protection of the vulnerable - and they do quite a good job of publicising sharp dealing on the local news.

News / PiS-PSL-LPR? [23]

People's opinion on Giertych and his ilk is well reflected by the fact that his partycan't get enough voters to give them a single seat in parliament.

USA, Canada / Who is better informed, the expat or the Polonia crowd? [144]

Not bad at all - the UK has I think and 11 year rule.

The EU want to standardise all this - Italy and Poland are as far as I know the only large countries that allow foreigners to vote based on a citizenship that they don't really need.

Life / Fake goods in Poland [42]

On what basis can the F.I.L report this to the Police, he has received what he paid for, as a Polish person he has forgotten one rule - no contract no deal.

Fake goods. And the police are interested in confidence tricksters who prey on the elderly. They also publicise scams like this on the local news.

History / People the Soviets planted in Poland [75]

Along with quite a few other records. So many that they had to take them in crates and have a bonfire. Allegedly Oleksy did it.

it has left me and my husband scratching out heads.

A sad story. Thanks for sharing it s people will know.

It might be worth mentioning this to the police (any complaint would have to come from your father-in-law or your husband if he has pelnomocnictwo) so they can investigate - it may be that they know about the guy already.

Has it been established that Rajmund had held PZPR membership?

Worth looking into, however I'm sure you're aware that membership records were destroyed.

Life / What do you generally think about Poles? [62]

Priests get far too much special treatment, and the Catholic Church in Poland is behind the times.

There's a lot in what you say. At the moment in Poland there's a growing debate about the role of religion in public life, whether the state should be secular with religion a personal matter or whether the state should be theocratic. I prefer the former.

History / Welcome to Lemmingrad! [59]

Andzej Sikora, Mietek Kwiatkowski, Roman Szulc, Ewa Mitra,

So come on, spill the beans. Who ARE these people?

And you weren't at it because you spent the whole afternoon posting on here.

Very true. Maybe bilocation?

News / A new AWS (Poland Solidarity Movement)? [54]

because their ideas to lower the taxation burden on small businesses are incredibly attractive.

Yes. It seems to be growing at a grassroots level and is a genuine political force.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

Exactly. Some of us learnt German as well as French. And Brits living abroad do usually learn the language of th eplace they're living, contrary to myth.

One issue though is that so many people round the world speak English to some extent and often want to practise it. Sometimes they've spent a lot of time and money learning and want to use what they've learnt.

Food / Jacket potatoes - do Polish people like them? [22]

Whenever I've served them in Poland, people haven't eaten the skins. Same when they're eaten at an ognisko. Personally, the slightly charred skins are the best bit.

News / A new AWS (Poland Solidarity Movement)? [54]

A play on words involving the seating positions in the former French parliament is hardly a basis for political theory.

I think you have finally flipped.

News / A new AWS (Poland Solidarity Movement)? [54]

It may be off-putting to voters, but only the post-communist and libertine ones who don't count anyway.

Unusual to say that voters don't count - I can assure you, their votes are counted very carefully indeed.

I already have in describing Ozajsz Szechter...scroll up and you'll find it.

so

non-observant Jew Ozajsz Szechter,

So why did you feel the need to mention someone's ethnicity? Do you think it is somehow relevant or significant?

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

Just as the traditional British stereotype of Poles as honourable, cultured and hardworking has been battered by the Poles who who came to the UK only to make a beeline for the dole office and hang around street corners.
