Language / I was born in Poland and I cannot pronounce 'CZ' [35]

It's a lot better than the usual "Durink va weekent I took my kits to va park".

It has just reminded me of a Swiss student whom I met in Scotland once. He told me that "Ze maazer is in ze baaazroom" was his Swiss teacher's version of pronouncing this simple English sentence.

Poles are used to barriers in languages since they were fighting to beat the extremely complex Polish grammar from day one of their lives,

That is not true of Polish children immersed in a Polish-speaking environment and acquiring Polish naturally. They are not fighting to beat the grammar at all, writing and the spelling of some words may be a problem, but that's a different kettle of fish. Endings, cases or tenses including the use of (perfective and imperfective) aspect are not.

Po polsku / Do zwolenników poczynań KOD. [14]

Oto kilka z nich:

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

Shouldn't Harry be awarded a "MAN OF THE YEAR" title by the PolishForums for an

'unrivaled and unequivocal insistence that Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel has never been inviting the Middle Eastern and Northern African refugees to Germany' ?

Then a picture of his would be published and displayed on the opening page of the PF throughout the whole year of 2017 that is until the next year's "Man of the Year" is chosen.

News / Poland's political crisis deepens [228]

She is the person the population elected democratically - she should lead the discussion and not just repeat whatever Kaczynski says.

The weak point of your argument is that Beata Szydło is not a person elected democratically as Prime Minister. It was PiS which was elected democratically by the vote giving them a majority in parliament. Prime Minister Szydło may be easily dismissed from her position as PM by the parliamentary majory whose leader is Jarosław Kaczyński whom some people here refer to only as an "ordinary back bench MP" who he also is, but he is not only such one.

I am surprised that people born in countries having long-established parliamentary systems do not understand such things. Instead they concentrate solely on that fact that the leader of the governing party should automatically become PM and on this they build the base for assumptions that are false.

Why shouldn't an ordinary back bencher have the right to sit in the middle of a panel of regime officials?
Just asking ...

Life / Cost of living in Katowice, Poland [53]

do you really move half way around the world to live in a Catholic, semi-dictatorship with average wages?

This explanation needs to be clarified as it sounds as if moving to Poland would be like moving to Uganda under Idi Amin.

Being a non-Catholic in catholic Poland won't change anything for you.
The 'semi-dictatorship' term reflects the poster's political views. Nothing of that sort takes place in Poland regarding the life of an ordinary citizen except the government TV which is annoying with its PRL-style propaganda news. But there exist two other major domestic and independent TV stations in Poland which broadcast what they want plus a wide range of press titles which do the same. A reality hardly to be called 'semi-dictatorship'.

You really are a boring pair of tits.

Yes, they are, Niederschlesier. And they are ganging up on you just now since they think the good old times are back again.

You are lucky that the third psycho of the Brit Bully team, the poor creature called Delph, have been kicked out of this forum for good (but is it really 'for good', I ask myself).

It is amazing how the forum has been quiet and civilised for some time recently, when this racist

pair of tits

were not present.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

Sorry mod I know I should not have posted this here but i am totally fed up with his libel, he constantly does this to take a thread he does not like off topic

Yes, Harold is a well-known liar on the PF. He will make everything to take a thread off-topic if he doesn't like it. Unfortunately, mods allow him to do so, so he does it. Notice how his accomplice, this well-known British clown comes here to confirm every word in Harold's lies.

Yes, Harold and his accomplice don't like the ethnic homogeneity of Poland, but somehow they refuse to move to a muslim country where all ethnic and religiuos groups are more than welcome and cherished. Leaders such as Frau Merkel will be at every corner waiting for them over there. And in particular sexual minorities such as gays and lesbians will be truly supported through their muslim faith.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

The terror attack could be a political disaster for Angela Merkel, who will seek a historic fourth term as German Chancellor next year - says the Daily Mail.

This in fact was my first thought when I heard the news.

Some time ago an attempt to plant a bomb by a 12 year old (!) Pakistani boy in one of German towns was neutralised thanks to the fact that a passer-by alerted the police.

Language / What's the difference between "idź" and "przejdź"? [19]

"Czy mogę przejść? Tak, przejdź pan!" Cf. the noun "przejazd" = thoroughfare.

przejście -> przejść
przejazd -> przejechać
wyjście -> wyjść
wyjazd -> wyjechać

"Idź pan!" = Go [on]! (formal masculine singular) vs. "Chodź pan!" = Come here, [sir]!

These are a bit old-fashioned (although still heard) forms which may pertain to be even slightly impolite to certain people, particularly in bigger towns. They were common, however, before the WWII. Personally, I find it a little bizzare if someone addresses me this way. The more accepted modern equivalents will be:

Niech Pan [tam] idzie/pójdzie! or Proszę tam iść/pójść!
Niech Pan [tu] podejdzie/przyjdzie!

News / Polish Stalinist criminal hiding abroad supports KOD [101]

Well no it wasn't. Does that answer the question ok for you?

The question I was asking you was a repetition of that famous question asked about the term 'Trumpanzee'.

a Trumpanzee Oh, I like it!! Where did you get that from? Is it all your own original work?!

Then JR was asking the same about 'the Anglo-Irish team' term:

the Anglo - Irish team......Oh, I like it!! Where did you get that from? Is it all your own original work?!

And then there came my turn to ask someone about a term that I liked!

Five star bankster!? Oh, I like it!! Where did you get that from, Dolno? Is it all your own original work?!

Panimajesz, Niederschlesier?

Very close to perfect.

I cannot and DO NOT CARE about the social consequences of what I do

I would like to reconcile both of you. Someone who doesn't care about the social consequences of what he does must be ... close to perfect.

Life / What is the reaction of Poles to Russian? [95]

the current semi-official Russian position is that Poland caused WWII through it's intransigent refusal to meet entirely reasonable German demands.

The Russians should constantly be reminded of their own pact with Herr Hitler (the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact) which was entirely "reasonable" for them at the moment of signing, but nevertheless did not prevent Germany from attacking Russia and from nearly crashing it later on.

Also, the pact of a slightly different nature agreed with Herr Hitler in Munchen in 1938 by Britain and France should be kept in mind as an example what the adjective "reasonable" really meant at that time.

News / What will drive Poland after 2020 - when Eu funding dries up? [96]

a money making racket at the cost of the European taxpayer!

The article says:

NGOs, smugglers, the mafia in cahoots with the European Union have shipped thousands of illegals into Europe under the pretext of rescuing people, assisted by the Italian coast guard ...

The real intention of the people behind the NGOs is not clear. Their motive can be money, we would not be surprised if it turned out to be so.

That has crossed my mind, too.

News / What will drive Poland after 2020 - when Eu funding dries up? [96]

The Marshall Plan for European recovery was $150 billion in current money, the aid package to Poland from the EU by 2020 will be in excess of $300 billion.

There are two things here:
150 cannot be compared to 300, even if 150 is in current money. The volume of wealth in the respective regions (Western Europe and Poland) were totally different after the World War II and in 2004 when Poland joined the union. So, the comparison should me made in terms of percentages of the wealth rather than in bare figures.

What is your source for the figures? Is $300 billion a gross or a net figure (that is minus the Polish contribution to the EU budget)?

How/when will Poland pay back that $300 billion should be the question.

I doubt if Poland has been obliged to pay back that money at all.

Language / Perfective vs Imperfective - grammar [150]

"czy jest tu jakaś łazienka?"

I have started to pay attention. Several days ago I was at a conference in a Warsaw hotel and my natural way of asking about this was "przepraszam, gdzie tutaj jest toaleta?". I would rather not ask "gdzie tutaj jest łazienka?" (unless I wanted to take a bath ;-). In the "Świat według Kiepskich" series, the toilet which is in the coridor is always called "ubikacja".

Perhaps a small formal dinner with guest of honor Queen Margarethe of Denmark?

Sorry, but the only thing you deserve is a formal dinner with Vladimir Vladimirovitch Poutin in Moscow. If you don't like that, then a formal dinner with PF's Johnny Reb in Texas...

And your accomplice Niederschlesier should get a rebuke from Atch ...

The circle is a........

as for the O, I cant believe it could be that crude, or can it?

Both are VERY sexist comments and should be punished with at least a warning on the PF. And I am serious with this.
