Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

If I say that multi-ethnic communities and societies benefit the locals less and then you provide a mechanism/explanation (one I'm not sure I buy into) for why that is then you've just agreed with me.

I don't think the USA has created a truly stable multicultural society because of the rather unpleasant attitudes of the white ruling class but one thing is certain the USA would be nothing without it's ethnic minorities!

Switzerland? Are you 100% sure about that?

Switzerland has three main ethnic groups and manages exceptionally well!!

Yeah Ziemovit mentioned the dual nature of multiculturalism in the Netherlands. Has the stability and progress of the Netherlands increased due to it? I don't know, it's possible.

Economy has prospered with ethnic groups

How many stable societies have been built on multiculturalism?

Singapore certainly, India manages fairly well though has occasional bouts of aggro. China has always had different ethnic groups and manages to be relatively stable, the list is quite long. No country is perfect because human nature tends towards greed, if it wasn't fighting between ethnic groups it would be something else!!!

Study / Opinion about the Kozminski Business School? [22]

As I replied in a previous post, it's not exactly top notch, it's only ranked at 38 in the country which is better than Vistula granted. If you are going to pay good money to study abroad why not go to the one of the best universities, Warsaw University, Warsaw Polytechnic etc.... go for the top 10 institutions at least. Erasmus in Rotterdam is good or maybe A British University though they are expensive.

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

Ok. How about 2 million immigrants? It's only about 5% of the current population and this influx should take Poland up to the magical 40 million mark.

Yes about 2 million would be okay, not enough to swamp the country but enough to bring fresh ideas to the economy and kick start changes and improvements in the education system. Many of the cultural events would be self funded and not too much money would be required for maintaining languages /religious studies, hopefully it would be part of the educational curriculum anyway.

Can someone please tell me the last multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country that succeeded in peace and prosperity for many generations? It just doesn't look like a winning formula and certainly not for Polish society.

Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Britain, Singapore, Australia all do pretty well as does Malaysia ( most of the time). No country, multi or mono cultural, seems to be peaceful for centuries at a time, it's not human nature.

However, in more recent times, the more multi-ethnic and multi-cultural U.S. society becomes, the worse it gets for the citizenry.

Only because the USA tends to treat ethnic groups as second class citizens, the problems there are as much about class as colour or ethnicity, people from ethnic groups are rarely allowed to rise to the top.

I agree with u foreigner4.. We dont need another uk in Poland.
Poles living in Poland dont go this way or our culture will be lost!!!

You are quite happy to sit in Britain reaping the benefits of a society that was built partly (quite a large part) by Asians,Irish, Afro Caribbean, Jewish groups and native British people who are in the main decent enough to tolerate you and give you a much easier ride than you would have in most countries!!!

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

Uncontrolled immigration benefits no one. But this goes back to my earlier question regarding how much do you think is needed to effect change on a national scale in Poland?

I don't think you'd need massive numbers!
I see your point, but there are many scientists and doctors in Asia, they can spare a few. One of the problems is that doctors and scientists are often not paid well in many countries, it's not so much that there's a shortage of them. The west needs to encourage more people into science and medicine.

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

A lot of nut bars out there would be quick to point out your statement as being racist if you said that white people want to preserve their culture..

I'm partially Asian myself and both parents were immigrants to the UK, we're proud of our own culture but we are also very proud of traditional British culture, it's not racist for any ethnic group to want to maintain their culture as long as they respect other cultures too. I wouldn't expect the whole of Britain to become Sikh or eat only roti and dal. You can take bits that you like from each other!

Poland doesnt need immigrants (unless they are ethnic Poles). What it needs is to change lifestyle and people need more kids.
I do not want to see Poland turned into Arabia like France and Britain.

I don't see how that will change the bad things and what you want is of no consequence, you don't live there, you're busy living off the hard work of many different ethnic groups in Canada!!!

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

I don't think it's a cure all for the Polish economy but some input and trade links with Asian countries would be helpful.

Will they drive educational reform that native Poles are unable to accomplish themselves or will the answer always be to bring in more immigrants?

I think the Immigrants could be a driving force for educational reform and improvement, uncontrolled immigration isn't really a good idea for any country purely for practical reasons.

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

Culture has nothing to do with technical skills. And we don't need foreign entrepreneurs, we need lower taxes.

Some of the Asian countries have a strong tradition of technical training and their scientific/technical training is exceptionally good.
Foreign entrepreneurs could build up trade links with other countries.

Instead of turning Poland into ANOTHER western tower Babel we could make it diverse by staying monocultural. If every place will be multicultural no place will be different.

As I said in my original post we're not talking about destroying or over taking Polish culture or traditions.

What do you mean? Poland can't produce enough doctors?

A few more wouldn't hurt and think of the benefits that those trained in some of world's best medical schools/hospitals could bring

The chance to live and work with other cultures is beneficial, it can be a very good learning experience.
Many Asian cultures are very enterprising and have good technical skills, it could bring economic benefits.
Many fine doctors in other cultures too, again a bonus.

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

Obviously every native ethnic group in any country wants to preserve it's culture, there is nothing wrong with this and they have the absolute right to do so. Immigration does not usually mean that the native culture is going to be destroyed, obviously there have been exceptions to this e.g. USA, Canada and parts of Africa but that was many years ago and hopefully people realise that it's wrong to destroy another culture.

Poland can only be enriched by immigration, it's population seems to be falling and there is much that other cultures can offer the country providing they don't aim to destroy Polish culture. That said as Poland has no colonial history as such and not a huge amount to offer immigrants I doubt there will be a massive amount of immigration there for the foreseeable future anyway.

Love / Cheated on... instead of the PL boyfriend the other lover announced it on FB? [26]

Actually, most women would disagree with you.

Not in the UK, most women know that men are optional extras not necessities.
Obviously there are occupations that men are better at but women no longer need to form partnerships with men, they are able to bring up children by themselves and support themselves, men are no longer an economic or emotional requirement. If you do meet some one who you can happily share your life with, well that's lovely but it's not essential for happiness.

That is a wonderful theory but life is life.

It's also an absolute fact! fortunately in the UK we don't have to tolerate 5th rate males we can throw them out if they are cheats and we don't need to pinch men who are taken, though sadly even in the UK a very very tiny minority still do pinch or put up with rubbish.

Love / Cheated on... instead of the PL boyfriend the other lover announced it on FB? [26]

Lots means sth like 20%? :):)

No more like 80% to 90%

Actually, I don`t need to meet nicer women as I am happily married.

Well that's good to hear and I bet your wife is nice or you wouldn't have married her!

I see that a lot of women are so desperate

This is so sad, women should never be dependent on a man, you can have a very good life with or without one! The thing which is even sadder is that the men they are fighting over are NOT good men, a man who can cheat is not a real man!!

Love / Cheated on... instead of the PL boyfriend the other lover announced it on FB? [26]

hahahaha that is theory of course but practice is different.

No it's not always different in practise! Many women would never ever consider pinching a man it's cheap and slutty! I grant you a woman can be conned into going out with some one who is taken but most when they find out what is going on get rid of the bloke!!

women who nicked their men don`t consider them worthless, quite the opposite. :):)

Perhaps these women have no self respect or are a bit dim, it's obvious that some one who will cheat on his partner is worth Jack sh-t! He will just as easily cheat on them. Would you accept a woman who had cheated on her partner with you????

That is normal practice

Where I come from girls are taught to acknowledge the fact that when a man has a partner he is taboo and show respect for their fellow females, there is such a thing as sisterhood! I don't know what sort of females you mix with but I'm glad I don't have to mix with them, they sound appalling!

Complete bollocks, many women would never dream of pinching another woman's man, no matter how cute he was, personal integrity is more important than having a boyfriend/partner/whatever!!!

if he can cheat on you he can cheat on her too!!!

Very true, if you can nick a man off another woman he really is not worth having!!!!!

Love / Fresh, wholesome country lass in Poland - getting married and going back to the US [167]

Nothing can beat attending a Catholic young-adult or academic ministry -- a repository of wholesomeness.

Complete rubbish, there are plenty of catholic slags, male and female. Catholics do not have the monopoly on chastity or decent values, neither do Poles.

Many religions regard Catholics and other Christians as rather loose in their morals! Of course that is quite a narrow view and incorrect,
people can have thoroughly decent morals whether they are atheist, agnostic, muslim , protestant , hindu whatever, it's not dependent on ethnicity or religion.
People are working very hard in many communities to show that Whites and Christians are equals, ( many communities see whites and christians as inferior ,prejudice works both ways) people like you put that work back hundreds of years!!!

Why also, does it have to be the woman who is the virgin? As a hardworking responsible female am I entitled to demand a virgin husband?

If a man is insisting on virginity then a woman has every right to insist on virginity too!!!!

Virgins are not the only ones with decent values, each person makes their own set of values and providing you do no intentional harm to other people /animals etc..... your values are as good as anyone's!

Study / Vistula University in Poland. Any experience? Any student? [57]

Yes, he should withdraw from Vistula

Unless your friend has a place in one of the top 10/15 universities e.g Jagiellonian, Warsaw University of Technology, Copernicus, it's not much point studying in Poland.

It would be better to look at the Russell Group universities in Britain( or some of the better ex Polytechnics). America or Australia might be an option if your friend wants to travel, Erasmus University in the Netherlands is also very good.

UK, Ireland / Study about Polish immigrants in England [29]

It's quite possible that the students are studying Criminology ( maybe Sociology) and looking at whether indigenous populations view immigrant groups as potential (actual) criminals.

The study isn't necessarily stating that all Poles are criminals or seen as criminals, it's looking as much at the prejudices of host populations?

.

I'm not sure it's the right place- ppl here are eiter somehow fascinated with Poland or hate it. They had to be interested enough to look on the web for this forum so the are not exactly a average English

I tend to agree with you, none of us are objective, or representative of the average Brit!

Love / Fresh, wholesome country lass in Poland - getting married and going back to the US [167]

Polonius3

Ask your skanky mate why it is more likely that he will find a 'virtuous, maidenly young girl' in Poland, than in any other country????

There are countries where the virginity of a girl is very closely guarded and loss of virginity can be punishable by death but Poland isn't one of them.

Polish girls are no more likely to be 'pure, virtuous or maidenly than most girls in the world, your mate's attitude is insulting to Non Polish women!

There are areas within Europe which have strict Muslim communities, where girls are forced to hold on to their virginity until marriage, but they are few and far between and your mate would not be accepted as suitor for any of the girls in these areas!!

Also, tell me why any women should be grateful to a man? Just because a woman has children doesn't mean she should be grateful to a man who marries her, she might be doing him a favour! People may be happy they have found a great partner but grateful?? learn what life is about mate!

Your mate might want kids, so what? I'd like the Nobel prize for Physics but 6 kids and a teaching career meant I didn't put the research time in! no Nobel prize, your mate didn't find someone, tough, no kids!

If this mate of yours wants to meet a religious girl, he can go to church!! No, your mate wants 'Virgin Barbie' not a real person

Love / English women and polish man who ran off with my life savings [22]

Banks are obliged to co-operate and investigate illegal financial activities. If a person takes their partners money for a joint investment and then runs off with the proceeds, I am 99.9% sure that constitutes a financial crime in the UK.

not really as if someone puts their money willingly into someone else's name or account then where is the crime?

Both the bank and the Police are obliged to investigate the matter but getting the CPS to allow charges to be brought is a different matter! proving intent to defraud is virtually impossible if the lady willingly agreed to put the money into the guy's account, he could argue it was money owed to him, that she told him to keep it or any other story. Appalling situation but regrettably it happens all too often to both women and men

IMO children should be taught about financial safety and how to avoid fraud right from school age. Best piece of financial advice my Mum ever gave me was to keep my finances separate from a husband or partner!

Love / English women and polish man who ran off with my life savings [22]

Try to get all your documents together and if you have evidence that you put money into the ISA take it to rthe bank and the police, there probably isn't much they can do but it will forewarn them if he tries it again.

NEVER TRUST SOMEONE WITH ADDICTIONS.
ALWAYS KEEP YOUR MONEY SEPARATE FROM YOUR PARTNERS, NEVER HAVE JOINT ACCOUNTS.
If you need to buy something together e.g a house make sure that it's in joint names and no one can do anything without your consent and you being present at the deal or transaction!

Love / ACCEPTABLE modest wear for Polish women? [49]

Hi,
I visit Poland regularly, I'm Sikh (sort of) so I do appreciate your dilemma. In summer straight leg jeans with a long sleeved, mid thigh shirt or smock should be okay. There are some quite nice thigh length tops in the shops. A nice chuni (long scarf) wrapped around your head and tied at the back of your neck won't attract too much attention.

In winterb the long chunky sweaters and cardigans over jeans, woollen scarves and hats to cover your hair. If you have any job interviews etc... Black wide legged trousers with a knee or mid thigh jacket over. I don't know if you wear make up? it's better to wear very little, looks much nicer. I hope this helps.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

I don't need to.I can't think of any example of German weaponry which would be vastly superior to what French,Brits or Soviets had.Can you?

I think in aviation, navigation and with submarines they were more advanced than most of Europe but the fact they were so war orientated was one of the biggest factors in events leading to WW2.

Always been glad that some of their research into rockets never came to fruition under Hitler.

Their main advantage was successful implementation of fully integrated combined arms doctrine.

The Germans were always on more of a war footing than most of Europe part and parcel of the Nazi ideology.

Food / "Poland - it's the new Provence of food" [56]

Cakes and the other sweets are all predictable so far and haven't offered up anything unique but maybe there's something out there still to be discovered.

I think the cakes are fantastic, some are quite unusual too. I never manage to bake them as well as my ex's Mum does, really look forward to her cakes when I'm in Poland.

Generally I'm not keen on Polish food because it's too bland for me but the cakes I think are possibly the best in Europe.

I have a book with Polish recipes from hundreds of years ago, that has some very interesting things.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

Yes I think Churchill was had much more foresight than most of the politicians at the time. Given the horrendous loss of life in WW1, I suppose that politicians were doing anything to avoid war, futile though it was. They should have thought more about the long term consequences at The Treaty of Versailles before landing huge reparations on Germany, personally I think that contributed to the rise of National Socialism, amongst other factors.

Point taken about size of population but it's useless comparing USA and China they are both capitalist economies

WroclawBoy,yes, for now,but wait until China has all the infrastructure in place. The US will pale in comparison.

Tend to agree with you both here, unless measures are put in place now, China will be producing vastly excessive pollution and eating up considerable amounts of carbon based fuels.

But to keep to the main question, at the outbreak of war none of the allies were in a position to help Poland much logistically, I suspect the country was not uppermost on their mind anyway.

Love / Troubled relationship - is it because I'm Polish or should I blame it on his moustache? [28]

[************************** right but it's easier said than done. Because it's not like you either love someone or not; I find that sometimes we can no longer be in love in the romantic sense but still love that person as a human being[/quote]

Yes I totally understand what you mean, it's so difficult when you still care about that person, also there will be things about him that you will miss so much. It's going to be hard for you but a clean break is kinder in the long run, later the two of you may be able to be friends?

If you drag this out then there is the risk of resentment and feeling betrayed which could ruin your chances of friendship later on. This man obviously means a lot to you and it would be nice to at least have something from the relationship.

I hope that you can find some way to resolve the situation without too much pain. If you want to talk about it privately feel free to PM me, I have been in a similar situation.

Love / Why a polish girl would prefer a relationship with a foreign man? [30]

I do not understand, very hard like what?

I only know what the ladies told me, no money, long hours, few material commodities, problems with alcohol?
I stayed in Poland several times, the housing that I stayed in was very cramped and there were certainly very few consumer durables etc.. money was tight, this was true of most of the block. I think most Britsh people would see the conditons as being indicative of poverty. That said we can be quite spoilt as a nation.
