Genealogy / Polish person's average height? [210]

I think Poland has a lot of tall guys. I am 181 cm male. Is it too short to be attractive to polish girls?

Poland's full of men around 170cm. If you're worried about your height, don't be. Or you could always stick to dating Kylie types lol :)

Love / Want to ask a Polish girl out? [27]

Coffee is not a very good bait for a Polka.

In my experience (i.e., many years of real-life experience, not chatting breeze on PF like you do), Polki do like meeting for coffee - indeed, it's often their suggestion. Probably because when they suggest coffee, it means coffee - whereas over here, "coffee" means sex. No decent Polish woman will suggest sex for a first date.

You have to be more direct with Polish women - if you want coffee, say coffee; if you want sex, say łóżko. :D

"Let's go for a kebab" won't work, by the way, just in case you were wondering. LOL :)

Is this how the kids do it nowadays? on FB?

Not just the kids - my last ex asked me out on FB and we are a long way from being "kids", lol.

Why bother to answer someone who isn't registered, can't write well though he claims to be an Irish man, and doesn't know how to ask a girl for a date? He sounds like he's 15.

Looks like woodcouch won't be "getting wood" for a while then; except on his own, maybe. haha :)

Food / A Polish dish with peas and eggs [18]

one of the more disgusting aspects of Polish cuisine

Indeed! My mum used to make me eat this stuff as a child. I can't even face the jelly inside pork pies for this reason.

Mind you, growing up speaking Polish as well as English, I always wondered if we should be eating "pies" anyway. i thought that was a Thai thing. haha.

UK, Ireland / Polish is an official language in the UK? [68]

It may or may not be a genuine sign, but considering all the Poles in the UK, there is NO excuse for such mistakes these days; not for a big organisation like Westminster.

I can understand why an Asian shop in a small Midlands town would put up signs which say things like "Polska Produkts" or "Polskie Chleb", but as there are probably more Poles in London than in Katowice these days, there's no excuse ;)

Polonia / Looking for Poles in Brussels, Belgium. [19]

It may have escaped your notice but the UK has about 45 million more inhabitants than little old Belgium.

If you had actually bothered to look up that site, as I did, you would notice that those statistics are given as a percentage of the total population, or state the number of crimes per 100 000 of population.

If he can't be bothered to look up his own sources correctly, and states his "observations" as facts, then he's going to get pulled up on it.

lol, I was thinking the same when I first saw the statistics he put up there.

Read the above - then look up the site you gave us, instead of just posting up a random link which you claim will give us the "truth" about your country.

I get the last laugh this time.

Love / I have a crush on a Polish boy ~ [15]

Never ask a boy out on a date, wait for them to ask you. Patience is a virtue..

Dating sites are full of childless women in their 40s who probably thought like this and "couldn't find the right man" :D

UK, Ireland / Polish is an official language in the UK? [68]

Since when did Polish have the letters " æ ", " Ỳ " and " Ù "?? lol

It is not a fake, trust me.

It may be genuine, but it's full of mistakes ;)

Polonia / Looking for Poles in Brussels, Belgium. [19]

Well I ve never lived in the UK to know about the situation there. I just compare it statisticly and by living there to rest of countries in Europe that I ve seen and I am telling you there is no comparison.

I used the link you provided to "compare it statistically" - to (as you instructed) "see the truth".

And guess what? Belgium is a lot safer than most of the world, so what on earth is this stuff about Belgian cities being the most crime-ridden in the world? It's nonsense, and everyone knows it!

FFS, London's one of the most dangerous places in Europe (and everyone knows that), but London is crime-free compared to Nairobi or Port Moresby!

Just go to the Nespresso shop on Nowy Swiat and you will find plenty of Poles that enjoy expresso

I'll be there soon :)

Look where coffee heaven have "expanded" to:

Maybe someone should fix that code, innit. lol :D

Life / Please recommend - shopping in Warsaw [30]

The wrong side of the river???

They say this about my side of London as well. lmao.

as for the slums....that are around the mall is hardly a slum. that is the lower working class and elderly of Poland. not slums.

Exactly. I've been there, and it's nothing compared to the most run-down parts of England, definitely not a "slum".

Love / Amount of money for gift (I have a girlfriend in Poland) [56]

Sidliste_Chodov

How do you know that girl asked for any gifts?
It could be that she is using him but on the other hand he nowhere said that those gifts were expected by his "girlfriend". Maybe he was sending them spontanously?

We can't know for sure, but he obviously has his own doubts already:

Are all Polaks as greedy and rude as these people? and now I notice that in all her emails, she seems to talk about that, and money, a lot.

Life / Please recommend - shopping in Warsaw [30]

the cheapest place I have found for groceries is Auchan in Piaseczno, you risk your life when you go in there though.

It's probably full of Mafia members lol.

Ugh! Mind you, many supermarkets round here feel like you're in Lagos, so I'm sure i could cope with it. Piaseczno's a bit far out for me though :)

It was a vacant lot with a small pavillion shop on part of it. My neighbors kicked up a stink about losing light but they built anyway

upmarket shops aren't really my scene, but thanks. It will be interesting to see how much Warsaw has changed since I was last there :)

Love / Amount of money for gift (I have a girlfriend in Poland) [56]

If he was asking about a real girlfriend, the replies would have been very different. But it's obvious that he hasn't seen her for a long time, he barely knows her, yet thinks she's a "girlfriend".

If he's dumb enough to send several "gifts" a year to someone like that, then he can't really expect better responses.

Reading stuff like this, it's no wonder that so many people still fall for Nigerian scams:

Are all Polaks as greedy and rude as these people? Because this friend wants to come to America, and I am starting to think that, if she is like the ones who answered my question, I don't want her here. In fact she works at a bank and wants to be a financial consultant, and now I notice that in all her emails, she seems to talk about that, and money, a lot.

Life / Please recommend - shopping in Warsaw [30]

Has something been demolished to make way for it? I've not been in Warsaw for a couple of years, so I'm curious ;)

But I'll be back in a few weeks time :)

So I have a question: does anyone know how much a box of Ptassie Mleczko costs in Carrefour these days? The most up-to-date prices I could find are here:

okazjum.pl/blog/supermarkety/slodkie-podarunki,57.html

Are those prices really up-to-date? If so, it probably saves around £1.00 a box on UK prices, so it's worth my while taking a larger suitcase :)

The price of a box of Ptasie Mleczko is the way I decide on suitcase sizes for journeys to PL (silly I know, but I can easily eat ten boxes of chocolates, but I can't eat ten packs of kiełbasy lol!).

Love / Amount of money for gift (I have a girlfriend in Poland) [56]

she's probably a greedy, rude *****. **** Poland and **** Polaks.

Typical cowardly "guest" response. Says more about your real agenda than anything else.

I met her ten years ago, yes, but we never corresponded afterward. She found me on Facebook in March this year, after all that time. I was quite surprised, because I really did kind of fall in love with her when I was there, and tried to find her for a long time once I got back. Never forgot about her. But no, we don't really know each other well yet.

In that case, I think you should send here $1000. You need to make sure that you don't look cheap compared to all her other "boyfriends".

Why this forum attracts all these fools is beyond me.

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

The Slavs are the largest mass of European peoples sharing common ethnic and linguistic roots encompassing Half of Europe in their realm and it's still Tara incognita in your tiny understanding of the world's history

What would the Boer know, anyway. We Slavs may be a lot of things, but we didn't invent Apartheid, and we never did any hand-chopping like his Low Country descendants did.

Love / Do polish men like career women? [60]

I must say that polish men love smart women .

I don't believe that dresiarstwo or wiocha are interested in smart women; they probably can't even spell "wykształcona" :p

News / Y Shaped high speed rail line Poland [78]

I loved eating a bento (boxed lunch) in the hikari or nozomi shinkansen. Namagusai dakedo....(strong fish smell but....)

Just remember... no durians :)

Poles don't need to travel far or fast.

Why would anyone choose a five-hour journey over a two-hour one?

The last time I got a train in Poland, it took over five hours to get to Gdansk - and that was an "inter-city" train (iirc), which implies "faster". Well, it would over here, but not in Poland. A similar journey in the UK would take half that time, yet everyone still complains about the rail service over here. It took well over an hour just to cross the Warsaw boundary, yet it barely takes half an hour to get out of London, which is much bigger!

it's fast, straight track that we need.

what's the point of making it look pretty now, only to invest more later.

Chodov in "Agrees With Moderator" shocker :D

Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

Lodz = Birmingham

Manchester = Krakow

Kind of. Manchester's way more important than Birmingham (despite what Brummies think), and £ódź was (for industrial reasons) even known as "the Polish Manchester" ;)

Wroclaw = Sheffield

I've always thought of Katowice as being the Polish Sheffield.

Gydnia = Bournemouth

Full of pensioners? lol

I wonder where will become the "Polish Bradford" though. :0 lmao.
