Love / Polish women USED TO BE much more attractive: [162]

That is just silly, besides fit and skinny are two different matters

I don't know if I understand you right, but you from where I sit it looks like you are saying that women are becoming heavier and therefore less attractive. I agree with this to some degree. Obese and very overweight people are not attractive. But slightly heavier people can still be attractive. And they can be healthy as well. It all depends where skinny and attractive ends for you. The way the world sees the beauty these days disqualifies most women, and if you want to strive for the ideal that the media present you'd better forget about potatoes and bacon. If you are striving for the fit and normal looking, yes, you are right, eating in moderation and exercising will do it for you.

Now, a question. The guys sings "Big girls, you are beautiful" My problem with this video is that the dancers with the colorful dresses aren't big (though some women later in the video are too heavy). They are normal looking girls. Why did the world decide to call "normal" "big?

Maybe we should start a recipe thread or cooking ideas thread...

potatoes: thumb down
no woman who wants to stay skinny eats any potatoes, same with bacon

fried: thumb down
carbs with fat is what makes your belly grow

. But we do eat lunch at restaurants almost every work day.

That will do it. I once picked into the kitchen at a restaurant and I saw the chef pour melted butter with a ladle on a plate of pasta. I must have been something like a stick that went onto that plate.

But don't you think the age has to do with your weight issue (if you have one, of course)? In my twenties I used to be size 2 without ever doing anything about it, nowadays I have to put quite a lot of work into fitting into size 10.

You are forgetting about the genes. They say a girl is eventually going to turn into her mother, and I think it's usually true weightwise. Some people have it easier to keep the weight down just by eating healthy and excercising, some still find it very hard.

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

I actually like the last 3 paintings on the bottom. But I would call them murals rather than graffiti.

I wish they punished the hooligans harsher in Poland. It's really annoying seeing something nice or new and then someone sprays something obscene on it.

Love / Is the Polish wife the boss? [33]

Really guys, what do you want to be the boss of? House decorating? Deciding what to cook for dinner? Holiday planning with the family? Whatever the wife is the "boss" of, it's usually because the man could not be bothered.
Now, if your wife decides where you'll go for vacation or what car to buy without consulting you, then you're whipped.

This is very true. There is plenty of small stuff men don't like to be bothered with, so women automatically assume it's their duty. Some men gave it the prestigious name of running the household, while actually the woman run herself into exhaustion.

History / Defying Germaniztion in 1901 Polish boy writes 'German girls are ugly' [128]

Also, Poles have the die-hard attitude about their language, customs and traditions, so forbidding us anything might bring very strong opposing reactions.

That too. But in general things for a German person have to make sense. For a Polish person things have to feel right.

At the end the failure of Germansation is abut flexibility. Bismarck was a great economist, politician, strategist, but one thing he was lacking was the understanding of human nature, and that it can vary from nation to nation. He basically thought Poles work like Prussians. If something is verboten they will not do that. And it worked well in Prussia. He successfully limited communistic movement by giving people more social services and forbidding the movement.

If Poles were like Prussians, they would peacefully switch to German. But the Polish brain works differently. We need flexibility and so called Freiraum.

Feedback / Language used here - how come this forum is all in English? [78]

No-one chose the country he/she was born in, so some conclude that it's foolish to love a country that was in effect forced upon one. But similary no-one chooses one's mother. Does that mean we should not love her?

If you need to compare patriotism to something, I would compare it to organized religion. Both relay on the concept of loving something abstract. Both tell you that through belonging to to the group you are something better than anyone from outside the group, and in both cases people are killed because of protecting the abstract idea.

And thank him that not everybody is like you, imagine how dangerous the roads would be if everybody drove while in your default condition.

This schtyk with Bzi's alcoholism is becoming boring and annoying. Respect the people around you and you will get the same back.

So the Polish are a special category outside of the Good and the Bad?

I don't like it.

History / Norman Davies - the Brit who loves Poland and becomes one of Us [250]

Certain Jews only and only in certain areas and only if they obeyed certain rules which Gentiles did not need to obey.

Other than not being allowed to form authorized communities I haven't heard of any other rules in Warsaw in free Poland.

Not really: if you fail to cut my statement in two, it is clear that I'm telling the truth.

Oh the usual, little petty attacks and no logic.

Jews were not allowed to live in the city of Warsaw for the majority of the time that the city was the capital of pre-1918 independent Poland.

Jews were allowed to live legally in Warsaw since 1768. The third partition was in 1795 and if you look that way, yes you are right, they were not allowed to live in Warsaw for a long time in independent Poland. Is that what you are trying to say?

That's really strange. What year are you talking about? The novel Lalka by Prus shows Warsaw and the Jewish situation in Warsaw in the beginning of 20th century or the end of the 19th, I'm not sure, and it shows that the poor Jews were concentrated in Praga, but rich and influential ones were mingling.
