Work / Job at HP in Wroclaw, what salary should I expect and Is It negotiable? [29]

Complete BS. You mean they don't have a salary schedule for the Job? They should be telling you how much the job pays, not how little you are willing to work for. I find it difficult to believe that a corporation as large as HP is still playing these stupid salary games (how low will you go?).

UK, Ireland / 1.2% of scottish population born in Poland [37]

I understand my Native American ancestors who were slaughtered by the white man when Europeans invaded America.

The Europeans didn't treat the indians any different than they treated each other.

News / How do Poles feel about the outcome of Germany's elections? [90]

Lech Wałęsa is so pleased that he is advocating for a unification with Germany:

Uhm, let's see. Poland is swallowed up for 300 years by Austria, Russia and Germany and now, approximately after 25 years of getting it's freedom, proposes a union with Germany. Typical Polish reasoning.

USA, Canada / Would you live in California, USA? [240]

If I was to move to California, I'd probably go to San Diego. But in your case have you thought of the Texas Gulf Coast? Corpus Christie? How about San Antone? The first Polish settlement in the US was near there you know (Pana Maria). If all else fails you can always head to Warsaw USA (Chicago).

Genealogy / What exactly is a Polish-American? [16]

And for you to say being born in the US makes you an American is an extremely simplistic interpretation of reality on your part.

Rubbish, if you are born on American soil you are American.

Even then, what is American?

Wrong again. American refers to people in the United States of America. A Canadian is not an American, nor a Mexican. American refers to the fact that America is in the title of the country.

If you want to preserve Polish culture move to Poland. Why live where you don't identify with the culture?

News / More cars in Poland than America? [29]

It may not be unusual where you live.

New York is the exception. A very different city that doesn't have much in common with the rest of the US.

In America everybody drives. Public transportation is not very popular nor very good compared to the rest of the World.

News / More cars in Poland than America? [29]

You don't understand tax law in the states. Very many people (me included) have small businesses and if we use the car for business it can be depreciated for reducing our taxes. The best selling vehicles in the US are pick up trucks which most have four doors and are operated like a sedan. I also own four other vehicles, my wife has one and my son has another. So for a family of three we have six vehicles. This situation is not unusual.

USA, Canada / Would like to move back to Poland from New York after living in USA for 20 years. [155]

indeed. the absolute bare bones minimum salary in the USA for a doctor is $170,000, a rockin' salary in anyone's eyes, and that's just their salary for their day to day job.

Doctors and nurses (not just the US but everywhere) deserve the highest of salaries. They work in a high pressure, very demanding enviroment. They only see people when they are injured, sick or mentally ill. When they make a mistake the patient dies or is make sicker or reinjured. To attract the best they have to be compensated properly. I don't understand this discount mentality when it comes to peoples' health.

UK, Ireland / Advice on child support (Irish with my Polish husband) [106]

...knowingly brought all of her problems on herself all by herself. She has no one else to blame.

Spoken like a true Republican. She hasn't done anything wrong. And as for her husband and his responsibilities, they are equal for all his children and not just for the first born (where did you get that idea?).

The best advice is from Warszawski, separate your income. Put the assets in your name and put the debits in his name.

Law / Poland and the Euro - benefit for Polish economy? [49]

Except both of those countries are obliged to take part in many EU institutions without having a voice - Norway pays around a billion Euro a year, Switzerland was obliged to adopt a lot of EU law - in short, they have to pay without having a vote. It's a normal thing for the uneducated to claim that the Norwegians/Swiss have a good deal - they don't.

They have their own currency and their independence. Poland, by taking so much of the European largesse are losing their independence.

Life / My take on Poland - My Top 10 [31]

10. For a predominantly catholic country there does not seem to be a lot of love and compassion going around. People seem to be out for themselves and don't have time for those in need.

Because it's a catholic country there isn't much love or compassion going around. The mindset of the devout catholic: Very angry, very intolerant.

News / The Bauman Affair: A Clear and Present Danger to Democracy and Academic Freedom in Poland [26]

Suffice it to say that I admire and support my Polish friends who invited, listened and critically and deliberately considered Bauman's talk, whether or not they agree with him (as by the way, I don't on many issues of form and substance). I am disturbed by the problems my friends and colleagues face. There is a clear and present danger, and it is not the specter of communism.

Poland needs to come to terms with its past. It's not going to be easy or quick.

Law / I have recently been scammed in Poland. My company accounts frozen. [58]

" I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies" Thomas Jefferson

Just noticed your quote. Bankers are dangerous because they control financial resources and with the financial resources comes influence; unfortunately they don't know what they don't know (they know finance but little else).

Love / My Polish wife went out the other night and didnt come home till the next day [22]

Judging from master's body of work, I think he's in a relationship from hell.

I am usually all for happy ever weddings.. but I think on one of those I was like 'Don't marry her dude! don't do it!'

Another englishman bites the dust. Just can't handle these headstrong Polish women.

Work / Why are so many PF member in Poland working in education? [19]

I can tell you, the extreme right-wing pseudo Poles on PF are not going to like it.

The extreme right-wing pseudo Poles are devout Catholics and the politics of Roman Catholicism is fascism. it's true today as it was in the 1930's.

Phew.......I,m thinking now how lucky I am that all I have to worry about is that my sweetcorn is not doing very well this year.......more compost for this impoverished soil methinks...The simple life of a Podkarpacie farmer eh?

UK, Ireland / Warning by Poland's Government before you go to the UK [53]

The problem is the system Warszawski, it cannot be solved as long as money and the profit agenda exists....period.

Spoken like a true working class Englishman. If money were the root of all evil, Marxism would have succeeded. The English Elite perpetuate this nonsense so that you working stiffs will not want and threaten their bank rolls. And you guys fall for it, everytime.

Work / Female Juris Doctor/Native American Speaker/Jobs in Warsaw [59]

I know some Polish law students want to do their LLM in the states so I could help them brush up on whatever it is they need brushing up on. Whether it's an american law class or the LSAT.

Instead of beating your brains in trying to find someone to hire you, why don't open up your own consulting business? I could never understand these job hunts, people spend so much time on resumes and the like when they could be more productive selling their own business.

Life / Immigration in Poland and being surrounded by a monoculture? [134]

I don't think the USA has created a truly stable multicultural society because of the rather unpleasant attitudes of the white ruling class but one thing is certain the USA would be nothing without it's ethnic minorities!

Just because it's not worked well in the USA doesn't mean it can't work in other places, it could work in the USA if the system was a little more fair. That said, the USA has created a better multi cultural society than some places!!

America isn't multi cultural. It's a melting pot or as some people would say "melding pot". Canada is multi cultural, maybe the most multi cultural country in the World.

As for Swiss Germans hating Germans - that's not true as well

It's true, the Germans are the largest ethnic immigrant group in Switzerland and the Swiss don't like it.

Secondly most immigrants in Canada are extremely well integrated, Canada has a very good record of integration. Most immigrants learn English very quickly.

You obviously have never been there. Try asking for directions in english in Winnipeg's French Quarter.
