Life / What do decent Poles think about true rightists ? [148]

the globalist left is for open borders for two reasons:

That is THE reason why the "globalist right" aka the old capitalists are pro-immigration...they need and want the cheap, unorganized labor...less rights, less wages, easy to hire and to fire = more profit!

(Not to mention raising the pressure on the homegrown, unionized, self-assured laborers who have to compete now with the much easier and cheaper rivals for jobs and homes)

Isn't that against the goals of the leftists, who wants them organized, who wants minimal wages, higher wages, more welfare and support for the unemployed?

but in the US the globalist left is fanatically pro-capital

You sure? Aren't they for healthcare for all, higher wages, higher taxes for the rich, free education, free higher welfare, pro-refugees/less strict borders etc.?

Another good categorization would be:

Strong state vs. Less state

Most opinions and programs fall into one of those two categories...

right and left dont' have so much meaning at present, the big emerging political split is between what might be referred to as

Most interesting...I would agree with these observations.

But I would call the "globalist left" the good 'ol "Internationalist" left, they didn't change at all....:)

And the "globalist right" is still the old "capitalist"...for them globalism is a god send to maximize their profits.

And thats the reason they will prevail longterm, IMHO. Globalist led countries will be able to offer much more goods and possibilities to the masses, whereas the nationalists concentrate on welfare and social securities. Most people will prefer the globalist/capitalist societies to the socialist/national ones.

As it always has been...

It comes all down to the age old conflict...only the names are more modern today.

History / Why is Poland weaker than Russia? [390]

With hindsight it was a good thing. The moment the german army set foot in Russia the Nazi time was on the count down!

Imagine he had not....

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

Germany and other EU countries put a 7-year long ban on that.

Poland demanded in return for that ban the assurance that no foreigner would be allowed to buy land in Poland.

When Poland joined the EU on May 1, 2004, it received a 12-year opt-out preventing non-Poles from buying rural land, as the government was worried that richer Western Europeans, and in particular Germans, would swoop in to buy vast amounts on farmland.

politico.eu/article/poland-raises-fences-to-block-farmland-sales/

So, I guess they had been quite happy about that. The rest is a "what if" play....

And yes, since 2016 Poles can look for work everywhere and EUians can buy property and estates in Poland.

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

if the rules of the said treaty would be applied to Poles droves of us would just swiftly move beyond the Oder

Hmmm...I'm not sure. It had been bilateral agreements between most EU members and Poland in place already so that Poles could not just suddenly "swarm" over the border looking for work the day after accession.

(For example the UK didn't make such agreement (only alongside Sweden and Ireland) and and hence most of the Poles wandered into Britain first after accession.)

So that wouldn't be a reason...

Turkey is the most civilised muslim country

I don't think that's the point for most. It's just that the size of the country and the population would propel it at the front/top of the EU at once. And we would have the whole mess of the middle and near East as neighbours suddenly.

Turkey would change the EU more drastically as most Europeans would be happy with...a comparable "shock" would be if the EU would take Russia in!

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

You are probably right, but doesn't it seem crazy to you that people from a non EU state have more rights than people from an EU state?

Yeah!

And I frankly don't want Turkey to become an EU member...so whats with those treaties for EU member!

But then there are some people who still believe Turkey would make a great member and who are still pushing this accession protocol....*eye roll*

It's not an EU treaty, but rather a treaty under the Council of Europe which has nothing to do with the EU. Turkey is a full member of the CoE, hence why they're part of it.

Okay....thanks... I thought there was something not adding up!

But does that mean that Poland is no member of the CoE?

Poles don't have less rights than the Turks, it's just that the rights are granted differently.

Well, right now they have less claim for benefits than many others.

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

It's all part of the "free movement for goods and people" the EU is about. To move freely there needs some kind of synchronization of citizen laws for all EU members to make it easier, claiming benefits is a part of it. But as I said, that's a difficult topic because of course there are still lotsa sometimes huge differences...

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

Because as EU citizens they have alot of more rights in other EU countries than people from non-EU countries.

It seems they made an exception with Turkey though...it seems someone from Turkey has more rights than someone from Poland. Maybe someone from Poland could explain why Poland didn't subscribe to that treaty?

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

It's a difficult topic...

Usually you need to reside in Germany to have any claim for support besides child allowances.

Usually coming to search for work is not enough to claim supports..BUT...that is not valid for people from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, GB, Ireland, Iceland,Italy, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and even Turkey (!).

Coming from these countries means you can claim benefits from the European Convention on Social and Medical Assistance law. (EU Fürsorgeabkommen).

coe.int/en/web/conventions/full-list/-/conventions/treaty/014

Poland isn't part of it...I dunno why though....

History / If Poles were antisemitic, would they ...? [240]

you would have no problem providing photos of Israelis celebrating Polish culture in Israel.

I googled that and there are Polish Festivals around the world (most of them in the US though)...

culture.pl/en/article/poland-but-not-as-we-know-it-polish-festivals-around-the-world

....but not in Israel (at least not that I could find any). Which brings me to the question, isn't that what an embassy is for? A cultural institute? Wouldn't be that their job to bring people together? Not only those who are already friendly with each other and know each other well but those who don't?

Of course the bigger the polish diaspora in a country the higher the chance of a polish festival there. But there exists many Jews of polish descent in Israel:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Israeli_people_of_Polish-Jewish_descent

But I still couldn't find anything about a cultural exchange or a fair or a festival or anything to acknowledge them especially....that doesn't add up. (But a similiar situation is with Germany...we have millions of Poles here...but still no huge festivals or fairs or anything)

Sorry to be the eternal pedant, but I know your goal is to improve your EnglishLOL

And I thank you for that! :)

You probably meant, instead of "a crass story", an "astounding story" etc.

Something like "absolutely awesome", yes....

There was a polish Waffen-SS Division???

Do you have a link?

And no the Goralenvolk doesn't count...as you can see already on the name "volk".

the Nazis proclaimed that this group were part of the Greater Germanic Race and worthy of separate treatment from the Poles

And so you shrug off over 30,000 executed Poles just like that?

Na ja, that's not the Jews fault....only the Gemans.

Poland - 0

Do you think there would had been enough Poles ready to fill a SS Division if that had been on the offer?

Ck. out Dr Janusz Korczak, Polish Jew, proud of his Polish and

I read about that one. An absolute crass story.

In Germany we have streets and schools and of course at least one children's home named after him.

Feedback / Will this forum be available in Europe if Article 13 passes? [30]

The job of the government is to act on the expressed will of the population (where not prohibited by binding laws) and not to protect the citizenry from themselves.

In a case like Brexit where the will of the population is no more than the half.....what is the will of the other half who thinks differently worth?

Especially if its found out that many of the arguments for a Brexit have been based on lies (NHS anybody)? And people rethink their decision?

Which will should the gov beat through?

And again, Article 13 is not in response to any problem expressed by the citizenry so no need for the EU to act at all....

Well....there exists copyright laws outside of the Internet for a good reason. Artikel 13 was just a try to bring these totally acceptable laws into the digital world. The way it is done is a mess and will fail.

(And yes, any artist will tell you that he likes his copyright laws...he would starve without them)

Correction: That coalition treaty is from 2018

bundesregierung.de/breg-de/themen/koalitionsvertrag-zwischen-cdu-csu-und-spd-195906

Here the passage about Article 13 (page 49):

"We refuse any obligation for platforms to use upload-filter to filter by user uploaded content for copyright infringements as disproportionate.
Negative consequences for small and middle sized publisher need to be avoided...." (my translation)

How dare Merkel to break that agreement just like that??? Our own german minister for digitalization is against it....*shakes head*

PS: Some call these upload-filter already "Merkel-filter"....what a stupid legacy!

I blame Merkel for this!

As the new gov was being build back in 2016 there was a thing called "coalition treaty", the CDU and the SPD compromised on things they want to do during their term in government.

Article 13 was one of them, it was understood that the new german gov would be AGAINST IT!!!!

But now Merkel breaks this coalition treaty in favour of the EU-commission, they talked her into it....and I guess she has no idea what it is actually about. She might have been a quantum physicist in her earlier days but has proven barely an idea (totally clueless!) about all things Internet, social media and digitalization generally...it's a sham!

It may you please to hear that this law has as many adversaries in Germany as elsewhere. Most people just bump their heads on the table about its stupidity! *groan*

Frankly I doubt it will work and will soon become an embarrassement for all supporter!

PS: After my informations the following platforms are NOT part of this mess:

Wikipedia
ebay
Dating platforms
Software developing platforms (like GitHub)
Dropbox
Blogs
private Homepages
all "passive " Platforms

Only platforms who made it their business model that user can upload copyrighted material have a reason to be concerned. (They will need to install some "recognition software").

PF isn't one of those, so it should be in the clear!

PPS: Memes and Quotes are still allowed! :)
