Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

OMG. Now you're just making up silly stuff. Too funny!

the estimates are 1 in 20, of course this all depends on ones definition of gay and the willingness of the participant to identify as gay, bi, lesbian or transgender. Do you own focking math I'm too drunk to do it for you.

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

How accepting is the Polish-American community on such issues surrounding mixed race Poles?

Personally I think you're Polish-American unless you know the county of the origin of the other half, but seriously you need to check with delphiandomine, he truly calls all the shots on any Polishness issues on this forum.

i just hope Poland has regulations against lead, toxins and antibiotics in their milk....

are you kidding, they don't have laws against sexual harassment in a workplace yet, but I'm sure the lead and toxins in their food are soon to be next on the agenda though... in about 10 years or so, maybe, right after after they get over their homophobia and wide spread bigotry.

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

The reality is that you speak from a perspective of 13 year old boy.

So go ahead and tell you parents and your Polish friends that you're gay. ;)

"Kaczyński twice banned the Warsaw gay pride parade in 2004 and again in 2005, locally known as the Parada Równości (the Equality Parade), stating that the application of the parade organizers had not been properly filed, also saying that he did not respect homosexuals' right to demonstrate stating "I respect your right to demonstrate as citizens. But not as homosexuals. Additionally, he feared the parade would promote a "homosexual lifestyle" and complained that police did not use enough force in breaking it up by stating “Why was force not used to break up an illegal demonstration?”. Kaczynski referred to the organizers of the gay pride parades as "perverts". In 2004 his opponents called his actions unconstitutional and he was repeatedly criticised by the Mazowieckie Voivodeship administration, which officially supervises the Mayor of Warsaw. In 2005, he allowed a counter-demonstration, the "Parade of Normality."

"In 2007, Poland, represented by Kaczyński, was found guilty by the European Court of Human Rights of violating the principle of freedom of assembly under Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights."

This is just the top of the iceberg also 2007 seems peaty recent to me, that was just 4 years ago, they haven't change much since then.

Your perspective is still of 13 yo.

That's the perspective of the majority of Polish people living in Poland now. I know the truth hurts guys, but there is no need for insults.

Again being gay is noting bad, it's perfectly fine to joke about it, you know.

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

The reality.

Poland feels like a small backwards village, even in a big city.

Hypothetically, let say you decide to move there with your b-friend and get an apartment together. Once your immediate neighborhood finds out that you're gay they would start systematically pick on you and most likely you and your boyfriend would become local village freaks. See, the level of xenophobia and bigotry in Poland is nothing near the level of homophobia. I mean it's horrible.

If his parents should find out about this or his Polish friends, his social status would be diminished to a freak status and he would never be able to talk to them normally again. As crazy as it sounds this is the honest truth. One thing is for sure, if he ever pisses you off, you really know now how to destroy his life lol. I'm just joking, really. Anyway, Poland has 0.01 % tolerance towards gays. Some people are trying to give you a politically correct answer but the reality is that they would quickly cave in under the peer pressure and throw rocks at you along with everyone else back there.

Work / Salary, holidays - questions to employer during a job interview in Poland [47]

Cji you're such a noob lol, and you have it a little bit backwards too, the job applicant needs a job and the employer has it, not the other way around. The interview is not like shopping in a grocery store where you pick and choose to buy things at the right price. In today's job market there are always 20 other people applying for the position that you're seeking to get too. It's important to know that as an applicant, you should avoid asking those questions directly unless THEY ask you first. When they ask you about the salary, give them a number but make sure it's appropriate. Under normal circumstance people negotiate the salary after the job offer was given to them. Overall, don't be greedy, get a job first learn something there and just move on when you find something better. Eventually you get better at interviewing, and figure out your own salary negotiation techniques. This is how it works for the first-timers.

They're also "yearly, gross" values rather than the Polish habit of "monthly, net"... or sometimes "monthly, gross" which I also find endlessly confusing :)

Who cares.

Work / Salary, holidays - questions to employer during a job interview in Poland [47]

I was used to the sort of situation you can see in the link below - ok some of them are saying silly words like "excellent" or "competitive", but by and large $'s are mentioned clearly.

Those are salary ranges. I hope you understand the difference. A lot of Polish people don't understand that the employer negotiates the salary based on applicant's qualifications. Hence the salary ranges. Another important factor in salary negotiations is your awareness of the market demand for specific skills or a profession. Do your research of the company and the job market ahead of the time and before you apply. Also i would like to add that knowledge of English is usually taken for granted and what relay counts is the concrete and relevant on job experience and the ability to present it to your potential employer in a casual, confident and relaxed manner. A through and thorough understanding of those few concepts can give you a significant advantage over other potential applicants, if you're seeking a job in the West that is.

If you display too much intelligence or individuality, you are dismissed rather quickly, even if you may be a good team player.

Seems to me that you had a lot of bad experiences in the past. Most employers i worked for were looking for intelligent, strong willed, self driven individuals, i guess we live in different worlds.

USA, Canada / Thinking about visiting America? Skip it or get molested and arrested for nothing. [79]

If you plan to visit the US for vacation or whatever, please don't or you will experience shock. You will be harassed by the airport molesters and the American police will jail you for nothing. It's like going 80 years back to the Nazi state. Check out this video:

She was an idiot. All she needed to say was "I do not wish to speak to you." That's all she needed to say. The cop would get fired and she could have sue the department for millions. Know your rights. Girls always blabber too much.

wow that's fcking nuts

parking permits are official documents.

Well harry based on what I've read above, i guess parking permits could be considered an official city document by the Police. Hey, what about a day old newspapers, meaning if you scan, copy, print those, can you get locked up too in Poland?

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

I picked up this really neat "book" titled - "Xenophobe's guide to Poles" by Ewa Lipniacka. Let me quote some of the phrases i found amusing. :)

Nationalism & Identity- Forewarned..

"Most of Poland is a flat open plain described by military experts as an ideal spot for a battlefield."

Nationalism & Identity- how the Poles see themselves...

" The Poles are self-critical they know themselves inside and out, warts and all. What is more they'll compulsively pick on their blemishes...

National Heroes

"Chopin had a French father and a surname but his upbringing, heart and prominent nose where Polish"

The most honest stuff I've ever read. No reason to be ashamed. We are who we are.

News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

Penn, honestly Lithuanians are "European Russians"... just like Dope. the Communist regime wiped off the face of the earth anyone who calmed to be Polish in the "Litwo! Ojczyzno moja" land... Didn't you know about it? They got cleaned squeaky clean. They either got shipped to the Ziemi Odzyskanej or Siberia or just managed to escaped elsewhere (or they were simply shot in the head facing the wall, sorry but that happened too a lot). "The Communist" were very rootless about it and they had plenty of time to do it. People who live there now are just a distant, 200 years old, echo of what was once there, well sort of... Anyway, don't take my word for it, go see it for yourself.

Language / Polish B1 certificate [7]

I have noticed in the past that a lot of people from Poland have a hard time understanding black people. I believe B1 test should be ran by a bunch of homies. That would be a true test. LMAO. I'm just joking, really.

If you don't mind me asking how much can you make after getting the B1 certificate?

Would it be better to learn engilsh just good enough and then learn something useful? Like a nursing degree? Did you know that you can make from $60K up to $120K a year as a nurse in England or the US... (edit: Canada as well....) Think about it. English = just a means to communicate. Everyone knows it. Don't waste your life away.

Only a Polish person would ask this questions. LMAO

I'm sure Welsh don't give a siht what anyone thinks about them. They just go about their Welsh business.

When are you Polacks going to learn to shake that chip off your shoulder? Hmm? Stop caring what people think about you and just be yourfockingselves.

Life / Forged parking ticket received in Poland [33]

No, he got into trouble because he used a forged ticket.

Forged ticket LMAO, you're an idiot. Technically They can't do anything to him, worst case scenario they ask him to pay a fine

Of course, that assumes that using a forged ticket isn't a criminal offence.

It's not you idiot. its a misdemeanor

Might not be a fine - forged tickets are always seen as worse than not having a ticket, because there's intent to defraud.

It's not an official document, it's a ******* parking ticket. You don't need a lawyer for that, just 30 PLN in your pocket at max. I do realize that's 30PLN is worth 3 days worth of potatoes and strawberries for you, but it's not the end of the world, you know.

Dave,
Don't worry, they can't do anything to you for that.

They can kiss your ass. I suspect you got stopped because you're a foreigner. Go to the police station ask what the charge or the penalty is, whatever, pay it and be on your way. It's like a bus ticket. You should have paid them off when you had a chance. Do you speak Polish? if not take someone with you who does.

I live in Poland, I would rather not dump her :-)

W I have to go to make a statement nobody mentioned a I could just pay the parking. I will happily pay a fine if they suggest one, do you think that will be the case.

If your criminal record is clean and you’re going to cooperate at the police station I would assume that you should be ok.

Was this a city owned parking or a private one?

Life / Forged parking ticket received in Poland [33]

I got caught using a forged parking ticket in My (Polish) girlfriends car.

When you face the Police remember to admit nothing, deny everything and make counter accusations. Once you're out, go ahead and sell your girlfriend’s car, get her a lawyer, dump her and start a business.

Seriously, why is it such a big deal, can't you just pay for the parking and call it a day? Tell them this was your first time, say that you’re willing to pay for the whole month of parking in advance and give them the name of the person who got you the fake ticket, (if applicable).

BTW do you live in Poland or GB?

No one will come to a shop only because there are free bags! No one cares if they are "biodegradable"

People actually do. When you come to a store to spend money you expect to be pampered. I know it sounds crazy to you all.

My wife was laughfing at that for weeks and she wouldn't belive it.

Ok you got me she wasn't laughing at it for weeks she snorted a tiny laugh and we moved on.

So those "biodegradable" bags are given for free in some big chain stores in Poland.

Those stores are probably German owned.

But it's banned, don't you get it?!
Here you can read about it:

Then as a store purchase biodegradable bags, or better yet get bags that are made of cloth and give them away to your loyal customers. Put a logo of your store on them. What do they teach you at school over there? It’s like talking to 3rd graders.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

Of course it isn't: some days one stall has the better fish, other days another does.

That is a deal killer. See, this is how stores here build a loyal customer base and keep them coming back for more. It's hard to compete if you can't sustain the quality of your product. It's also difficult to establish a brand name that way if you own a chain for example.

that new regulations came to live which bans plastic bags in supermarkets. That's why you must buy it now.

The store should absorb the cost of the bag.

you still end up paying ( and in your case, you pay the wages of the person who packs your bag).

it's all about the perception. You guys are never going to be able to compete with the west with this attitude.

hes looking at it from a cleaning toilet point of view, 5 carrier bags = 1 less bog to wipe.

That doesn't make much sense, you know lol.

Why not, do you care about those few grosz?

Well, everyone does it here so i don't have to worry about it.

Do you want some free bags from Poland? I can buy a thousand for your personal reserves ;P

My wife reuses those plastic bags for scoping crap from cat's litter box. I can send you those back if you want. ;)
