Life / Important Poland etiquette question: bite of the herring first, then a shot, or shot first, then a herring? [22]

OK, vodka first.
I think I'm going to present it as "proceed at your own risk" kind of experience.
I could dare them, but then somebody might upchuck.

Should I get some black bread? Even though I have absolutely no control when it comes to herring, and vodka is my drink of choice, I feel something is missing. Maybe something sour at the end would make it a less farrowing of an experience for the uninitiated?

Life / Important Poland etiquette question: bite of the herring first, then a shot, or shot first, then a herring? [22]

A friend asked the guests to bring an hors d'oeuvre reflecting one's culture. originally, as a joke I decided to bring herring and vodka, but once committed, I'm forging ahead. Home made marinated Matjes herring squares on toothpics, a bottle of Belvedere frozen in a block of ice... So here is the question: I'm sure I'm going to have to demonstrate the procedure, and I'm not sure what makes more sense: bite of the herring first, then a shot, or shot first, then a herring?

Love / "going to dinner with my sis..." - approaching a Polish girl, help needed [46]

So often we think of things to say after the opportunity has passed. You could have said, after she told you she's having dinner with her sister (which most probably was true), "let me know if you'd like to go another time", and she could have said "maybe another time". The chances are, both of you could not come up with a follow up, worried you might sound too forward.

That said, let her sweat. Now she knows you like her, so you have to wait for a sign from her, like long leading look or something.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

or, they simply do not move around much and pass their places down to their descendants? Maybe they list it just to see if they sell and then decide to keep it in the family after all.

Food / Polish wine produced in the Zielona Góra region [41]

Thy stopped granting licences due to Polish law not being in compliance with EU law.

the obstacles are Polish and they only cover grape wine

What exactly, is the point of contention? Which particular law does Poland have to add, or subtract, to comply with the EU's?
And, if Polish wines are compliant with Polish law, why can't they be sold in Poland?
And one more, can someone voluntarily comply with EU law and sell the wine abroad?
(I'm having hard time finding these things online)

Food / Polish wine produced in the Zielona Góra region [41]

I don't understand why the government has not granted licenses to sell wine since August 2008. Were there any reasons given, or, at least, some speculations?

Love / Dating a Polish/Italian Guy [18]

I assume that was sarcastic, kreme.
The signs that he does not want her to be a part of his life are all there, no family involvement, no friends, he does not even want her to know where he works, for Pete's sake!

I think he's just working her because she presents him with a challenge and a distraction.
Sorry, but that is my take.

I don't see wine as one of the products listed, warszawski

"Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)-covers agricultural products whose quality, reputation and properties are closely linked to a specific geographical area. At least one of the stages of production, processing or preparation takes place in the area to which the product's name refers.

Polish products registered by the European Commission as PGI: miód wrzosowy z Borów Dolnośląskich (heather honey from Lower Silesia Forests), rogal świętomarciński (crescent-shaped bun from the Wielkopolska region), wielkopolski ser smażony (fried cheese from the Wielkopolska region), andruty kaliskie (wafers from Kalisz), truskawka kaszubska/kaszëbskô malëna (strawberry variety from the Kashubia region), fasola korczyńska (bean variety from the Nowy Korczyn area), miód kurpiowski (honey from the Kurpie region), kiełbasa lisiecka (sausage from the Małopolska region), suska sechlońska (dried plum from the Małopolska region), obwarzanek krakowski (bagel-like bread from Cracow), jabłka łąckie (apple variety from the Małopolska region), śliwka szydłowska (dried plum from Szydłów), chleb prądnicki (bread variety from Prądnik, Małopolska region), miód drahimski (honey from northwestern Poland), jabłka grójeckie (apple variety from Grójec, Mazovia region), kołocz śląski/kołacz śląski (raised cake from Silesia), ser koryciński swojski (cheese from Podlasie region), jagnięcina podhalańska (lamb meat from the Podhale region)."

Love / Dating a Polish/Italian Guy [18]

This is my feeling about this, and of course, this is just my guess.
I think you are his rebound girl. Eventually, he might even go back to his girlfriend.
Also, sooner you sleep with him, sooner your relationship is going to be over.

Life / Mall Madness in Poland? [8]

Malls are good in inclement weather, especially for teenagers.
Also, good for senior citizens to do their walking.
I have not been to one in many years.

We're thinking about helping out some family friends in growing and making red wine . I had no idea there might be problems selling it. But then I should have expected it; my father rarely bothers with those pesky legal issues. :/

[Moved from]: Engraved rolling pins by Polish artist

File this under things I never thought I'd say: these rolling pins are absolutely stunning. Made of Polish beechwood and laser-engraved from artisan Zuzia Kozerska's home in Warsaw, the pins come in nearly a dozen different designs. (Alternatively, especially committed cooks can request theirs custom-made.)

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

is there any reason we should stay with old Polish words instead of adopting new ones from foreign languages?

Oh yea, Lenka, I'm worried they'll overstay! Or they will not. The Polish people I know think they have an inalienable right to leave whenever they're good an ready. :)
