Polish person's average height? [210]
Your ignorant claim that 5'9" is
definitely not the average for Americans probably had something to do with it. I apologize if I sounded a bit hateful.
This thread is really about people's perceptions, no one here knows for sure. I'm 6' and my own perception is that I don't meet many people shorter than me. That's all, just my perception.
What sort of method do they use to measure you? Not all methods are very accurate. For example, at my doctor's office they measure me at 71 inches (5ft11) and I am not that tall. If they don't use something to put on top of your head and extend it to the wall or whatever it is in your case then I wouldn't take it too seriously. Also, those weight machines are a little iffy too because they have a significant mechanical incline in most cases that doesn't match up with the measurement accurately.
Also, most medical studies have concluded that average height is at 5'9" with a few exceptional studies that claim it to be at 5'10".
If you really are a legitimate 6 ft barefooted and most of the guys in your area really are as tall as you (disregarding the possibility of shoe lifts) then your area is above average to the rest of the US. I live in northeastern USA and the men around here (especially in the cities) are supposed to be taller than other Americans. And again, from what I've observed, the men usually average at 5'9"...give or take a half inch. If average was as tall as 6 ft then I would feel somewhat short but I don't. I'm 5'10 barefooted in the morning at most and I'd say about 75% of all guys here are my height or shorter.
