Life / Men in Poland in the forest? Just men? [133]

My wife is a bit foreign

I’ll say, judging by the wages she is willing to pay she must be ……….. ;) LOL

and yes my bookshelves do have an adult section...one book on fetishes etc...

No doubt in my mind, the only section that’s not covered in dust.

so if I don,t employ then they have no work and not even a single Zloti.

Not too many takers I see, your futile attempt to seek them out in the forest is clearly not working, they rather spend quality time yet still have enough money to buy cheap booze to pass the time. Have you considered changing your strategy? Raising the ante perhaps? To make it worthwhile for them.

we teach English/German to some delightful children and I keep several adult males for digging ditches etc

Business can’t be all that good for you and your wife. How can a ditch digger making 1zł afford English lessons for his kid? Besides, why would an unemployed simple folks (as you have described them) want to study a foreign language? Your story is not making any sense; looks like you’ll be moving on very soon.

To summarize

Go away and think about it.

perhaps come up with a better story.

Life / Men in Poland in the forest? Just men? [133]

Really? I speak from the experience as the native to the region in question; you on the other hand are confused as what constitutes a tradition. Complain all you want, the venom, bile and insults are coming from your end, not that I would really blame an ignoramus like you for that as you seem to be confused about lots of issues, I suppose the recent phenomena of the social behavior of chives in Britain have a very long standing history and tradition behind it. Honestly do you think you are fooling anyone? As Iron pointed out to you the customs from the middle ages that may have been true back then as the result of extreme poverty of the region and peasants’ in general does not makes it true today neither does reading Chłopi projecting the life of peasants to present times picking a region at random, as if. Remember Reymonts’ novel was first published at the beginning of the last century and even then much of what he was writing about has long time vanished from the day to day reality of that time. I know I have given you too much credit here, there’s a fat chance in hell you ever read anything in your life. You simply let your imagination take the best of you and your wife is encouraging it knowing your secret perverse sexual fantasy and knowing what consequence it will bring if you ever act on it. Hoping that after a good beating you will snap out of it and from that point on you will only fantasies about her

.
PS. If you are a yank by any chance then explain to me the long standing tradition of teenagers congregating in the forest preserves, parks, what have you, often standing in circular pattern as they take a quick swig from a brown paper bag or passing a bong or joint around, or that of the winos gathering around the parking lot of the liquor stores doing the same thing, squatting by or sitting on a guard rails. Why only man? What are the roots of that tradition? Odd.

Life / Men in Poland in the forest? Just men? [133]

.how did this tradition arise in Poland

You’re so full of it your eyes turned brown. I myself have been born and raised in that part of Poland, spent more time there and visited more people on all sorts of social occasions than you ever will, never seen it myself and never even heard of it. I don’t care what you may or may not think of this region of Poland but I can honestly state that you and your wife are full of $hit.

There are many traditions that have been cultivated here perhaps longer than in other parts of Poland like (zapusty, śmieciarza, sobótki) and some unique to these parts as well that you might find peculiar but what you’re talking about is pure nonsense and fiction. You also seem to confuse bunch of teenagers drinking and gathering of żule with traditions which to me at least suggests you're not that bright.

Dreadnought, if you’re implying what I think you do and you’re into this sort of thing just join them and try to get some, you’ll get more then you bargain for. You’ll quickly find out how friendly they are with those that play for the other team. LOL

Life / DUI first time in Poland [13]

the guy just had a couple of glasses of wine ,, i really dont know how the test showed 0.45 ?

It all depends on how big is your glass, if it can hold the contents of an entire bottle it means he had a couple of bottles not couple of glasses, perhaps your definition is screwed up? Devil’s in the details you know LOL.

Chyba z gwinta.

UK, Ireland / Websites for Poles to benefit from Britain! [210]

That pretty well sums it up, however the frustration is slowly building up on both sides the migrants as well as the locals, soon you will see that what's happening in ME will also be the reality in many of the European countries.

News / Price for the US ambassador position in Poland? $2,300.00 [10]

So, I would be more curious as to how many ambassadors did NOT contribute to one or the other campaign.

I imagine there’s quite a few, they are usually recruited from a professional diplomatic core serving a term of 3 years and then we have those like Lee Feinstein who are solely recruited from the political camp of residing administration, a term of 4 or more years depending on how long his backer is capable of hanging on to the most desired address in US.

Surely 2,300 woulda got him somewhere warmer?

Israel perhaps, or is this post too delicate for someone of his caliber.

In this case the size of donation is more reflective of how quickly he had to announce his resignation. The caliber of a diplomat is not measured by the size of his wallet and rewords bestowed upon him by currently residing administration. Having political backing is one thing but you still have to be a diplomat enough not to create frictions. So sudden announcement without a reason given after so little time served makes you wonder indeed what was his blunder not to be resolved any other way short of resignation.

Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

The Russian-Ukrainian pattern, better known as “Velikorosy – Malorosy”

The problem with this methodology is that as far as most Poles are concerned Russians are just that to us – Malorosy.

and it is based on historical realities

What realities? Don’t confuse the false illusion of grandeur as some successor of Byzantium, the lie they sold you as it being a third Rome combined with the overgrown body of a rebellious teenager who is lacking proper upbringing and someone around to guide him and mold him into a man, keeping his emotions in check until the time of mental maturity arises which is needed in order to take his proper place among his peers and be considered equal of their stature. Muscovites are just peasants that grew too big for their britches. Because of their quick rise to prominence through strength bulling is the only form of governorship they know, they have never show any sign of wisdom needed to consolidate their gains and keep it all as one cohesive unit but have been acting up ever since, therefore they shall remain to be so.

Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

usually energetically denied by Ukrainian nationalists.

What’s wrong with being proud of who you are? Do you automatically have to label someone a nationalist because it’s not conforming to your line of reasoning?

the question was about Germans, not Slavic people.

Perhaps I’ve missed judged your intentions. There’s too much negativity on this form as it is. It’s hard to imagine that people who regularly post here are not working with or dealing with foreigners on the daily basis so perhaps sharing their experiences on what their working relationships are like no matter the nationality instead of making a list of pro and con would make it a more interesting topic.

To answer your question, I’ve worked with Germans and going out to a pub for a beer or us occasionally hanging out with our wives and girlfriends was not about dreaming that Poles have something in common with Germans or vice versa but rather what our working relationship was like. Occasional tease about our respective nationalities was not malicious in nature either but it was all in good fun, no one took it personally, it made the working environment that much more enjoyable.

Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

Is this the opinion of Russians? Many Russians pretend the same with regards to Poles, besides our common Slavic roots there's nothing that unites us. Why would you start a thread reinforcing the old stereotypes? I judge people on individual basis, for me to have a beer with you very much depends on how much of an A-hole you are not where you come from or what your roots might be.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

So many of you nationalist dinosaurs are locked in the past.

Progressive forward looking individuals like yourself always latch on the coattails of those that are stronger for various reasons which they justify with the word “get with the future “ to make themselves appear as visionaries but without exception they always end up in the same trap, they make themselves willing vassals in the process instead of masters of their own destiny. Out of their laziness they willingly subjugate themselves to others instead of working hard to make their country stronger, sooner or later they are left up the creek without a paddle. There’s a not so flattering word to describe those progressive types, so what makes you think that being defined as a nationalist is somehow a dirty word?

The simple fact is you do not represent Poland.

Don’t fool yourself, neither do you but I'm willing to bet they are even smaller minority then the so called dinosaurs.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

Does Poland have the money to pay for her own SM-3 ballistic missile's, if so then that would be seen as a good contribution to Nato, if not then the next best thing is your ally.

If the intention of your ally was as it is advertised the ally would share technology without demanding to be men by their own, speaking within the frame work of NATO of course, not demanding payment for it either.

Not that old chestnut, in war you protect your own first, everything else is history.

Speaks a great deal to the character of who you deal with, what makes you think that second time around it would be any different? Backstabber is just that, he just can’t help himself.

SHT, I am now losing respect for you as a historian and tactician.

Ask me if I care.

The true definition of a snob is one who craves for what separates men rather than for what unites them...

What’s the matter? Can’t handle the truth?

quote=warszawski]'When choosing between two evils, always try the one you have never tried before.'[/quote]
Didn’t Roosevelt demonstrate already what America is all about? Eager of you to share the spoils of WWII at the expanse of Poland.

exactly is wrong with having some nice missiles in poland to defend nato/poland with?

You know what’s the definition of a sovereign state is? Is it necessary for foreign troops to man those? If it’s done within NATO then the sites can be located on Polish soil as long as Poles man those sites not some foreigners.

SHT, forgets one thing about history ' Poland's geographical location has been her enemy and savior through history, this time round it is her savior again.'

Nonsense, The location has nothing to do with the history, the greed of our neighbors is the cause, same countris in the same location minus the greed = no problem.

SHT, here is one for you ! Poland is no David

We managed to do quite well for a way longer period of time then America exist as a state, don’t flatter yourself.

SHT you are the oracle?

Yes I am and here's one prediction for you. History has proven time and time again that superpowers have their own interests at heart ahead of their most trusted of allies and they will sacrifice anyone standing in their way to reach their goal. America is no exception.

No, but I would not put a blind faith in America as a savior either. As for American military presence in Poland I’m still not convinced it’s a good idea. Convince me but use a better argument.

Germany
Israel
Korea

Don't you think that those countries with one notable exception did it on their own and American presence there has nothing to do with the state of their economy.

How do you explain this then? Americans also have their basis there yet they are not doing so well.
Greece
Iceland
Spain
Kenya
You've been reading too much Geroge Firedmann and like to take credit where none is due.

You can't argue with that C.V...

Yes you can, this myth is easily dismissed as a pure nonsense, figment of one's imagination.

Life / What is the reaction of Poles to Russian? [95]

I've lived in Southern Cal

I've also been state side and know what I've heard on more than one occasion and how Americans treated Mexicans or anyone else for that matter as soon as an accent was detected when a yank apperently had enough and said what he said.

You don't read very well do you? Try again and notice it says Russians, not Russian.

Really

Apparently you not only have a problem with your Russian but English as well. You need a translator as that's the official language and no matter how many languages you speak you still need to speak Polish to take care of business. LOL Your knowledge of Russian is worthless when taking care of official business.

Life / What is the reaction of Poles to Russian? [95]

Hmmm, I know people who speak Spanish in Southern California, Colorado and Texas. If a Pole couldn't speak English, but knew Spanish, you think they would be better off with grunting and pointing a lot?

You still don’t get it, do you gringo? From my experience the usual reply State side is “this is America, speak English!” Emphasis on English.

Nothing to do with my question though and it is increasingly clear that several folks would rather play a game and take off somewhere else. I was simply curious if anyone was likely to have an off reaction to it.

Seems to me like you’re the one playing games.

A few years ago in Warsaw I noticed that some Russians didn't appear to be...mmm..."appreciated" very much

Suggesting there’s some kind of aversion to a language when in fact your own experience suggests otherwise.

No one sneers, but I have had a couple of blank looks and blank stares from those who apparently can;t make out my Russian.

Couldn’t help yourself there sticking that but in, now could you? Perhaps their Russian is not good enough, than again perhaps yours.

My lawyer and translator during a legal process both spoke Russian and most people understand it but obviously you weren't paying attention to where I said a "a few" appear not to understand.

Besides when taking care of some legal matter when the official language is not Russian you wouldn’t have a need to hire a translator, now would you?, but to suggest your comment was somehow ignored by some official brushing it aside as if not being able to understand you because he has to know Russian, for variety of reasons, (one being as absurd as proximity to Russia) in a legal matter no less is absurd. As if everyone in Poland has to know Russian, get real

Life / What is the reaction of Poles to Russian? [95]

I wonder how many blank looks and blank stares a Polish tourist would get in let's say San Diego area trying to communicate in Spanish given that the area is so close to Mexico? To make it even more interesting, what would the reaction be if an average yank learned I can speak English but refuse to do so using the wrong language on American side of the border? Is it just me or do all the yanks have a peculiar way of looking at things? Do tell, how many people who consider themselves red blooded Americans still use Spanish in the border states, given the fact it was once a part of Mexico? Do you think it would bother them? Would they be insulted if the tourists use Spanish?

You sure use a strange logic to rationalize the reaction you get. I assume "Tchr" stands for teacher which makes it that much more confusing.

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Is it another of ironsides IDs?

I’m sure Ironside is more than capable of fighting his own battles in his own name. By the looks of it he must have bit**-slap you pretty good since you’re seeing things that are not there.

He doesnt seem the sharpest pencil in the case

You on the other hand, randomly sticking your nose in other peoples posts is neither welcomed nor appreciated, looking to pick a fight might get you just that, so be careful what you’re looking for. Is that blunt enough for you? Now pi**-Off.

Let's not get too personal

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Oh my here we go again. Exactly what I wanted to avoid.

Yah right.

If you can't point me to something useful, don't bother.

Enlighten us, please, you know for a fact that an 8yr old child needs to be re-educated as his parent is apparently wrong yet you don’t know anything about the subject matter and the evidence gathered so far clearly points out that the child is right. Laughable don’t you think? And the off-topic bit about child’s alleged family history is there for what reason exactly if not to spread more rumors? Clearly another Trolling attempt and you have the guts to say it’s something you want to avoid?

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

I'm trying to find information to re-educate an 8yr old child who believes Hitler had nothing to do with Poznan

Seriously? Are you trying to resurrect that old rumor based solely on the testimony of one old man who was an alleged witness to that event but never confirmed by neither any other eyewitness testimony nor any kind of official documentation though many historians tried. According to him, Hitler’s’ secret visited to the castle in 1939 lasted only couple of hours but do you seriously think that a megalomaniac like Hitler would be able to resist himself and keep it a secret? The kid and his father are right; Hitler had nothing to do with Poznan and if I were you I would leave Hitler and Elvis sightings where they belong, the science fiction section.

It is said the grandfather was an SS officer. Maybe family traditions. I hear he beat the cr*p out of an elderly guy that asked for money on a tram near Olszynka in Poznan on Friday.

More rumors I see; “It is said”, “I hear” etc. Just another fishing expedition on your part.

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

What good would going back to the pre-war border

This discussion is about eastern borders as for the west I’m all for reclaiming Hamburg, Kiel, Lubeck, Magdeburg, Leipzig, not to mention Berlin, mind you not for Poland per say but to create a state for Sorbs, a rightful heirs of those lands. :) Something that should have been once the war was over.

Like I've said farmer cheese also known as baker cheese in some parts of US is what Poles use. I've also seen it labeled white cheese so I guess it all depends on where you live but relatively easy to find in major US cities.

I am able to find most things, but I don't really know what a substitute for biały ser would be.

Try farmers cheese or make your own, there was a thread here few years back on how to make your own if you feel like experimenting.
