Love / American marrying Polish woman in Poland - Church problems [79]

I had a similar problem. The Catholic church does not recognize the Church Of England as a religion as the Queen is head of the church.Even with copies of the decree nisi and decree absolute this was not good enough for them.We ended up having a civil wedding in Poland. As my wife wanted a church wedding I had to jump through many hoops.I had to go to several church court hearings were they dig up all your past, interview two witnesses and contact your ex wife. After all that we were refused permission and the case had to go to Rome for the Popes approval. This in all took over two years but we got there and we had a church wedding two weeks ago.If I had been married to a Muslim,Jew or other releigion it would have been easier as the Catholic church recognize them as a religion.

Real Estate / Foreigner buying house with 'Rolna'/Rural land in Poland - ever possible? Advice/help. [38]

I purchased around 4 acres in Zawoja some 5 years ago it was a royal pain in the butt and took nearly 6 months to complete.I had no connection to Poland at the time.Every form of ID from passport to bank statements, birth cert had to be translated in to Polish by a

registered translator. At the final meeting with the notary and the people selling the land again a registered translator had to be present. It seemed like a never ending process with visits to the local public office to get various bits of paper work stamped.I can build on the land all be it a small section due to local restrictions. It is possible but it take time and make sure you get friendly with the local Wojt ;-)

Life / Using heating oil in your car in Poland, what are the risks? [11]

Spot on there the newer PD/DI engines dont like the veg oil but my old pre PD passat runs no problems. Also by adding two stroke oil I have to say my car has rarely ever run as smoothly and quietly since.

UK, Ireland / How to export a car from Poland to the UK [13]

Also you will have to 'adjust' you car to meet UK standards - otherwise will not get an MOT.

Rear fog light swithed to otherside
Headights but a friendly MOT station will pass it with beam benders
They do recomend to swap KM to MPH easy to do as there are plenty of companies doing overlay kits.I didnt bother. What year is the car? as you may need to fit rear seat belts and side repeaters as not all European models came with them fitted.

You can mot the car on Polish plates as they use the Polish reg number and the cars chasis number

I have reg'd two cars one from Germany and one from Holland both still Left hand drive. Its easy to do but takes up to 10 days now.Insurance was not a problem with LHD cars.

The car I imported from Germany had to have homologation paper work from VW UK as the car was never officially sold in the uk.

When you de reg the car in Poland make sure you retain the cars documants or you will have a big problem getting it regd in the UK.

UK, Ireland / I worry about the Poles working in the UK [77]

I would not worry about them.I have not long lost my job (Im working again) and because my wife works full time we have worked hard and have savings I would get almost next to nothing after many many years paying in to the system which is meant to support me when I need it.

On the other hand we know of a Polish girl who got pregnant by a non Uk resident (Africans sorry shes not sure who's the father) and lives the life of riley on hand outs. She was an Aupair so never paid any money in to the system as she was being paid cash.

Where I am now working the are 7 Poles and they all are doing well

UK, Ireland / Polish TV channels in the UK [95]

You wont need a 1m dish.We have a 85cm dish and get 13.0 east Hotbird with 98% Quality and level.I have a polsat card and cam also a TNK card. For ease I would get a prepaid polsat box sent over as if you use a diffrenet set top box it will need a CAM slot or it will need to read conax for the TNK card

If you are handy with some bassic tools you can do the job yourself. You can get the dish, lnb, cable and f connectors from Maplins also a sat compass for little money.Where about are you?

Travel / Parking in Krakow [13]

How did it go? The Audi is fine?

All went well I parked at the hotel in the end and they let me leave the car till 6pm the next day so worked out well as had time to walk to Galaria and grab some lunch before heading back to Zawoja. The Audi is in fine fettle and returned between 34-36 Mpg which is not bad for a barge of its size.Left Zawoja at 10am Friday and stopped in Venlo (Holland) for the night but I would have been in Calais for 00.02 according to the satnav.

Cheers for the links of the other car parks.

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS SO SPECIAL LIVING IN U.K [90]

Not for much longer at the rate pubs are shutting down.

Very true. Its a sad time for publicans

does not sound like there is much to do,except for drinking ale is that all.O how about work market.

There is plenty to do.I live on the coast so plenty of water-sports to do or lazing on the beach, when and if the sun comes out! This is also a short drive away thenewforest.co.uk. There is plenty to do in most places it depends what you are into.

As for the work market ive been lucky even after being made redundant last Christmas I was working the next day.So the work is out there.

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS SO SPECIAL LIVING IN U.K [90]

Personally I think the place has gone to the wall.Maybe people think its special as its known a treasure island. The land of hand outs.

A plus point there is no another place on the planet like a traditional English pub with a good selection of real ale.
