Real Estate / Rights To Partners Flat In Poland - Cohabiting Agreement [21]

There is also alot for me to understand about purchasing e.t.c in Poland. The simple process is keep it simple and get it under her name then I come onto the agreement at a later date......

It has been mentioned in previous points, but there should be no difference between you getting the mortgage and your partner getting the mortgage, as you both live outside of poland. It does not matter that she is from poland. I would have thought that the bank would much prefer 2 people to be applying for the mortgage as this significantly increases the income, especially that you are on considerably more that her. Also, if you are applying, i would try and be quiet about your debts...

Language / Getting the wrong ending of a word - do Polish still understand? [25]

Hi. Been meaning to ask this for a while. Checked the threads and could not find an answer.
Question is: when a non-polish person, speaking polish, gets the wrong ending to a noun, can a polish person still understand it. I know it is best to have the correct ending but just in the early days of learning the language, does it matter?

I know the ending of Verbs is very important as you can end up saying something about someone totally different. But my question is in relation to nouns.

Thanks,
Vincent

Language / Czego, Czemu, Co, Kto, Jak, Dlaczego? [64]

Vincent

cases, cases, cases. study them. how they work, when they happen, which verbs collocate with which case, etc. etc. And then after you get sick and tired of it and give up, it will save some people some precious typing time not having to try and explain it anymore.

Totally uncalled for. If you can contribute constructively, dont bother at all. Maybe that will save you some time typing. I am aware of the cases, and i am also aware of different ways of saying 'What', 'Who' etc. However, in the example above, i was just unaware that the rflexive verb casued a certain declanation.

I just checked the title of this forum and it says 'Grammar usage', and hence felt totallly justified in asking a question.

FRD..Thanks for you assistance.

Language / Czego, Czemu, Co, Kto, Jak, Dlaczego? [64]

Could someone tell me what the difference between these words for 'What' are? I am currently going through a polish grammar book and there are the following 2 questions:

- Czego sie napijesz?
- Co chcialbys zjesc?

I am just wondering whe each is used.
Many thanks,
vincent

Work / The concept of an independent contractor in Poland [4]

Hi. I suppose the first question that needs to be asked is what are you contracting him to do. It is very vague from your mail what he will do i.e. is it a service, or is he selling goods etc.

Life / What is it with the Polish love of antibiotics? And Why do Poles get ill more? [40]

Don't you think that the minor difference in winter temperatures between PL and UK might be a reason for this? Also, I have noticed that (at least in London) people have no clue how to dress appropriately to the weather.

Speaking as an irish man who has lived here for 4 years, i totally agree with you on this. I have noticed this since i came. People in ireland and UK will only put on the necessary clothes when they are about to fall over with the cold. I would be a bit like that...only buy gloves or wearing a scarf i absolutely necessary....I think in poland, kids are thought from early age to wrap up warm.

Love / Do Polish women have bad tempers? [49]

Also..."I will love you forever" in girl speak ACTUALLY means "I will love you until I get bored with you because I have unrealistic expectations and my dad always told me I was a princess who deserves the best....or until something better comes along...I also don't even need a reason to totally change my mind but when it happens you can be sure it will be YOUR fault"

Brilliant...brought a much needed smile to my face...

UK, Ireland / Dedicated Phone Line/Data Line for remote access in Poland [7]

Hi. I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the following....
There may be an oppourtunity to work from home(in poland that is). However, i will need constant access to the IT systems on my Employer...which happens to be in Ireland. I could 'ring' in but i would expect the cost to be pretty high. Has anyone any experince of getting a dedicated line for a situation like this?

I know i can ring the phone company but i would like to see first if anyone has any experience of this.
Many thanks,
Vincent

Language / Collection of learning resources for learning the Polish language [129]

Came across this website the other day. supermemo.net. You can enroll for a beginners online course. It cost EUR 19. It is quiet good as it covers conversations, vocabulary, and grammar. You can see a demo to see if it would be of any use to you.

I bought the intermediate book in Empik the other day. And there is a voucher in the book which allows you to enroll for an online course for free so i enrolled in the Beginners course. Name of the book is 'Polski bez problemu'.

Work / Is it normal for companies/schools in Poland to be rude? [116]

When i saw the title of the thread, i was looking forward to telling you about business culture over here. But the previous contributors have all put it very well. Unfortunately, good and prompt service is an exception over here. And as people have said before, just get use to it ...it is nothing personal. I know it may sound defeatest but after 4 years over here, you just dont have the energy anymore to get upset over it.

Law / Tax Declaration in Poland (PIT-11) [10]

Hi Mephias, You say that you are in full time employment. If that is the case, then your employer should be deducting your tax obligation and ZUS payments. Can you contact your payroll section to ask them to confirm what is being deducted?

Regards,
vincent

Life / If I move to a big city in Poland will I come across a lot of English speakers? [32]

but not THAT many at the level where one can find it satisfying.
Besides, not many are eager to speak english in a polish speaking country.

I find that there are a lot of polish people with a very good level of english to have a good conversation especially in Warsaw or Poznan.(and probably Krakow). Also, i find them very eager to speak it in order to get some practice in speaking to a native speaker.

To be honest, i am looking at maybe going back to DJ'ing here ...(maybe)...and i was just trying to suss out some information on it. Music would be 70's, 80', 90's, 00's, current etc. While i like to be, i would not be a 'dance' dj.

Language / I need some encouragement from Polish language speakers! [30]

I so feel your pain...!!! As anyone who has started to learn polish will do.
As the others have said, spend a bit of time on words and phrase and then gradually introduce grammar to it. You will see where it all fits in over time. It is not going to happen overnight. I have had a few 'why am i bothering' moments, but then i go back to it with a fresh head, and it starts to make sense.

One thing is, that you wont learn it doing just and hour or two a week. I am determined to learn some level of polish this year so i am trying to give it an hour, at least, a day. I dont have a 'language' brain so it does take a while for stuff to sink in.

Keep at it.....
