Law / Poland low on national brand chart [66]

I know Europeans go about business in a lot different fashion. Less glitz and b.s., however sometimes you need that stuff.

No glitz and BS? Telling a member that elections are to be curtailed until a deal is done?

With sovereigns listing, the business climate in fact the whole of the EU, is in question.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

Detroit has been down. With Dave Bing in as the Mayor and thins are starting to look up. The recent election has led to a Gubernatorial change.

It will take time but Michigan will improve.

News / Palikot's "Modern Poland" and the Tea Party - how do they compare? Should be banned? [21]

No one is ignoring the two wars. Entitlements involve everyone not just the middle class. Ponzi schemes like Social Security have run their course. The money for SS is not there, and rates of return are imaginary.

brucekrasting.blogspot.com/2010/08/on-sstf-lets-go-back-to-1956.html

Obamcare took hundreds of millions of dollars out of Medicare and, rather than using it to strengthen Medicare, plowed it into this new entitlement. The law's authors also failed to produce a legitimate solution to the "doc fix" problem. The "doc fix" which was originally part of ObamaCare, was separated out to keep the overall cost of the bill down.

Because the the authors nabbed Medicare funding to pay for their new program, trimming that entitlement (Medicare is generally accepted as the single biggest long-term problem for the federal budget) probably won't be part of the deficit-reduction package.

News / Palikot's "Modern Poland" and the Tea Party - how do they compare? Should be banned? [21]

The Tea Party movement on the other hand is just a fad - the failure of many of their preferred candidates earlier this year tells you all you need to know about them.

You are wrong.

The desire to cut down on the national debt is not a fad, the opposition to the big bank bailouts is not a fad, opposition to Fannie and Freddie is not a fad, opposing ill-conceived medical care legislation is not a fad, opposition to government takeover of GM with the rule of law skirted by screwing the bondholders is not a fad and opposition to combating the largest levered debt crisis in history by issuing more debt is not a fad.

The Tea party may have a Republican component but it is the Independents that give the movement gravitas.

News / Polish leader urges EU to keep generous aid funds [32]

Modern day Germany has more than covered the tab and excessive payouts won't help either in the long-run.

No, they've not covered the tab.

Nor should they be expected to do so.

Life / The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well? [146]

what does secularism and atheism have in common with left wing ? I don't see the connection.

Besides, if one protests against something, does it make him a left winger?

In Europe secularism is the religion.

The issues that preoccupy most Europeans are material ones: How many hours per week will I have to work? How much annual vacation time will I have? How many social benefits can I garner? How can my country avoid fighting against anyone or for anyone?

Why?

There are two reasons: secularism and socialism (welfare).

Even if one holds that religion is false, only a close minded secularist can deny that religion was the driving force for nearly all the uniquely great art, literature, economic and even scientific advances of the West.

Religion in the West raised all the great philosophical questions: Why are we here? Is there purpose to existence? Is there life after death? Are morals objective or only a matter of personal preference? Do rights come from the state or from the Creator?

Religion posits: We are here because God put us here. There is purpose to life. Good and evil do exist. Human rights exist for everyone because they come from God.

Secularism is vampire; it takes life: We just happened, death is the end, we are no more significant than any other creature on this planet.

With secularism good and evil become subjective opinions.

It was G. K. Chesterton that noted when people stop believing in God they don’t believe in nothing, they believe in anything.

Some recent secularist ideologies: Marxism, Marxism-Leninism, Fascism, Maoism, and Nazism.

What about the "new religions" of the late 20th and now 21st centuries being pushed by left leaning indoctrinators? Some current examples are social justice (The Great Society) , wealth redistribution & environmentalism (global warming now climate change).

The secularist state destroys creativity: Why do anything for yourself when the state will do it for you? Why take care of others when the state will do it for you? Why have ambition when the state is there to ensure that few or no individuals are rewarded more than others?

No; left wingers and secularists have a great many similarities.

Life / The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well? [146]

Atheism and secularism, Zuckerman continued, are also correlated with higher levels of education and lower levels of prejudice not only against women and gays, but people from other ethnicities as well. For good measure, atheists were less likely to beat their children and more likely to encourage them to think independently.

Which is undisputably true.

Undoubtedly...

What about the educated? Class all the way; no prejudice whatsoever...

but many priest or preachers do condemn single moms.. etc.

I believe you're making things up.

Hate- and fearmongering populists are rising to unknown heights and even gain governemental powers, a situation unthinkable within civilized states, yet it is happening.

It's all about "self"; narcissism. It is a move away from Christian values and a move to this so called "enlightenment" that is the problem.

Don't worry government will solve it for you whether it be an ethical issue, medical care, education (indoctrination) & energy (global warming scam). Soon we'll all be at the Keynesian endpoint.

Life / Poland, maybe the world's last bastion of faith [67]

Many families are disfunctional in the US, but you seem to miss the complex reasons.

Do you have statistics?

Assuming many (open ended) are dysfunctional what are the reasons for this lack of proper function?

History / Today is the 1st of September (WWII start in Poland) [138]

And he could have gotten the SU on her knees, if it weren't for Yugoslavia and Greece. The "necessary" invasion of those two countries after Mussolini screwed up once again in Greece and a switch in Yugo from pro-Nazi régime to anti-Nazi régime, delayed the attack on the SU with about 6 crucial weeks

The "six weeks earlier" argument has been trotted out there over the years and there is absolutely no truth to it what so ever.

Hitler was a man of his word you cant take that away form him.

You're kidding right?

I would say invading Russia in winter was a bigger mistake.

While the invasion of the SU was a bad decision the declaration of war on the US permitted the industrial might of the US to swing into action stocking England with all sorts of war material and manpower. All of this permitted the western allies the ability to wage total war on Germany.

Compare Hitler/Dunkirk and Hitler/Stalingrad

I think we'd agree that the only comparison is one of contrast: Stalingrad cost the Germans enough men and material to supply a quarter of the Wehrmacht.

The Battle of Britain was a bad mistake made by Göring; if they would just have gotten into their boats and sailed off to Britain, the Island would be theirs before the Summer would be over. Britain was just lucky there.

I am not sure the Germans could have invaded Britain.

Goering's real mistake in the Battle of Britain was his change in strategy: he stopped going after the RAF at a point where the RAF was close to the end and instead turned his attention to the cities.

History / Today is the 1st of September (WWII start in Poland) [138]

The Brits somehow did spin around Dunkirk to a victory or a "miracle"!

Somehow?

While Goering and the other sycophants were arguing to Hitler against having the German Army finishing the job the Brits were slipping away. The end result was that these troops ended up facing the Germans in battle on a later date.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

My only wish is that my ancestors and the native Poles at that time in history we're given the opportunity to personally convey their sentiments towards Stalin.

Kiss german arse for getting into the EU and becoming our happy backyard.

Happy backyard? More sovereign write downs are on the way and the Germans hold the checkbook.

History / WW2 hypothesis - if France And England weren't so timid, wimpy and scared of Hitler... [34]

Don't forget about Stalin who wanted regain territories belonging to former Russian empire.

If this statement is about Poland I'd challenge it by stating that Stalin wanted revenge; territory was icing on the cake.

No Hitler => no blitz tactics

Blitzkrieg tactics preceded Hitler.

Try the symphonists: Fuller, B. Liddell Hart, Tukhachevsky & DeGaulle.

If France And England werent so timid, wimpy and scared of hitler...

pbs.org/greatwar/resources/casdeath_pop.html

Look at the casualties the British and French suffered. You can see that an entire generation was decimated. The loss of wealth, property and lives led to to a complete aversion to war and led to the most respectable avenue from it: diplomacy.

Germans wanted war

All Germans? No, they did not.

the official version was that Versailles was unfair

Versailles was botched badly. Many in the general population felt that Germany had been "stabbed in the back" by the "November criminals".

The most humiliating portion of the Versailles for Germany was Article 231, or known by it's better name the "War Guilt Clause," forced the German nation to accept complete responsibility for initiating World War I.

Therefore, Germany was liable for all damages. Georges Clemenceau, France's premier, was at the forefront of the group who insisted on imposing an unrealistic level reparation payments.

Aware that Germany would probably not be able to pay such a enormous debt, Clemenceau and the French feared German revenge. So, the French sought in Versailles to limit Germany's potential to regain its economic and military superiority.

superior and undefeatable his nation is, when they lost WW1

You mean like not being defeated on the battlefield? You mean marching back home arms in hand?

But unlike breathing, religion is learned, not natural. You've just described an addiction.

Nice use of a pejorative: addiction.

The case is open on whether religion is natural.

News / Poland needs four children per family for sustain survivor and development [46]

Then, as soon as possible, state needs to stimulate young people to have minimum four children per family

I totally disagree with you on this. Keep the state out!!!

I believe you're correct about having stable tradition families grow but unfortunately the religion of the day is narcissism.

kind of but overall sustainability depends on population growth, not decline and that is what's going on, as per above

Wrong...

Sustainability relies on productivity.

History / Should HMG compensate Poland and/or Polish veterans? [90]

To be correct, polish army was fully mobilised but not fully assembled, thanks to the allies again.

No; the fact that the Poles were not fully mobilized rests on their shoulders not the British.

Why would, or should, the Poles have put their faith in France or the Brits based on recent events (Munich) and events in the not so distant (Polish - Soviet war) past?

History / Should HMG compensate Poland and/or Polish veterans? [90]

Should HMG compensate Poland and/or surviving Polish WW2 veterans?

No...

Why? A few of reasons:

* How do you judge Britain's preparedness (logistical, strategical & psychological) for war?

* How does one quantify the damages to the individual in question?

* The litigious carousel would never stop.
