History / 'Prehistory' Celts in Southern Poland [20]

But, there is no such thing as *Scottish Celtic* people.
There were people who lived in Scotland who had similar lifestyles to other so called *Celts* but the Scots were actually Irish, and the Irish were only *Celtic* by culture. Modern Scots are a mix of Pre *celt* Picts, *Irish*,* Vikings* and *Anglo Saxons*.

But, DNA wise, its not really a surprise that people from different sides of Europe can share certain similarities considering our Ancestors didnt just spring out of the ground where we live now. A trace of DNA does not mean a mass population movement,it could just be a coule of trading ships with very horny crewmen on board :)

That is not what the Arians believed. They believed that Jesus was a divine being created by God. They did not believe that he was merely a man

You are right of course,Im getting my Arians and eastern Gnostics mixed up again :)

History / 'Prehistory' Celts in Southern Poland [20]

It gets confusing :)
At first Christianity was spread by Rome ( all short skirts, gladiators and Et Tu Brutas, the Empire ), thats how it arrived amongst British Celts first but the Romans (still short skirts and gladiators, but a slightly different version of Empire) who spread christianity first in the East were eastern Romans and came from the Arian tradition ( Jesus as man not God).

Than you skip forward a couple of hundred years and the *official* church of Rome has been born and thats when you get Papal delegates going round Europe telling all the other christians that they were heretics and converting them to the new version of christianity,ie,Romanised....confused? You will be :)

As for specifically the Celts in what is now Poland,i'll sit back and learn from others as my speciality is western history in the early medieval/dark ages :)

(Poland became officially Christian in Roman way)

Yes, *they say* the same about Britain in the early 7th century even though there had been Christians here since the late first century and it was already the dominant religion of the Roamno celtic british for about 3 hundred years before the Gregorian missions :)

BTW, Im sure a Slav could also be a Celt and vice versa seeing as neither is a genetic ethnic identity but rather a cultural and linguistic identity.

And what do you mean by Romanised?

Forced to convert from eastern or local christian traditions to one more servile to the wishes of the Pope.
The same happened with the Celtic Christians of the British isles, happily keeping up earlier christian traditions until Augustine arrived telling peole they were evil and going to hell if they didnt pay tribute to some geezer back in Italy :)

UK, Ireland / Poles 2nd to Indians in UK [23]

Bit pathetic isnt it, a comment that there are some Polish hookers working in England and the two trolls seem to think the guy means all Polish girls are hookers.....says more about their attitudes to Polish girls TBH.

D--kheads in every country I'm afraid!!!!

Exactly, edit out the bit where I said 8apart from the d**k heads* to make a point? Nah,dont bother,Im not the enemy lol

Very few Polish pubs around, maybe a few in London?

Up here in Ed Millibands constituincy in Doncaster we have on just one street a Polish Deli, Cake Shop,Take Away and a Pub/ Eatery and at least a dozen standard Polski Skleps.

Thats just one street lol, but,I agree, actual Polish Pubs are very rare, they just wouldnt get the footfall when you compare prices in Pubs and the Skleps.

All the old White eagle clubs are long closed down but even those were very intergrated, everyone in the area of one would have their wedding receptions or other parties at them, ww2 era Poles and their kids were just Brits with funny accents and names,of course the kids didnt have the accents, just the scrabble winning names :)

UK, Ireland / Poles 2nd to Indians in UK [23]

No difference,a few brits might speak a few words of Polish now, normally swear words, and might drink tyskie beer because its cheap but Im afraid thats about it for the latest batch.

Even the post 1945 batch didnt really impact on British culture much for that you have to go back to the late 19th and early 20th century batch and Im afraid some people on hear will not count those Poles as *real* Poles.....

Brits dont eat pierogi after the pub but curry, face it, Indian culture has been here for 200 years now, anything that Poles bring is just a slightly different version of some Euro/Amerikanski thing anyway. We had Indian culture even before we had many Indians here from people coming back from Empire stations.

Why should todays Poles make an effort, they can go home to Poland whenever they want, our previous immigrant waves have mainly come from refugees or from people who came here not for work but for British culture and rule of law with work a close second of course as everyone has to survive :)

Polish or just non english on the street? most brits,ie not raving nationalist lunatics its indifference, outsiders dont get pointed at like they still do in Polands off the beaten track parts :)

UK, Ireland / Canada targets UK Poles to fill labour shortage [19]

most immigrants here are willing to work a million times harder than

Yeah, thats the Bull droppings they fed us here prior to 2004 and still we have tens of thousands of Poles up and down the country living off the considerably higher welfare they get paid here than back in Poland and supping Lech on the streets from 10 am....... I simply dont believe Canada has no immigrants milking its system.

History / Goodbye Lenin - we don't want you in Poland! [85]

Where I used to live, the ONR used to march commemorating the ransacking of the village and antisemitism. They were also doing Hitler salutes.

Is it silly to ask why Slavic Nazis are marching under a Celtic Cross?

Life / Prevalence of Autism/Asperger's in Poland? [6]

*fey* means fated for death or visions of impending death..... *fay* could be an allusion to the fairie folks getting hold and causing the changes or being a complete changling, many primative cultures saw the onset of conditions such as Autism and Asbergers as though their child had literaly been replaced by another.

Phew, who knew some basics in middle english and an interest in Arthurian Folklore could maybe help in this sort of topic lol

UK, Ireland / Do the poles like British culture [127]

Questioning authority is just not part of the English mindset.

Have you ever posted a single comment on this site that is not complete arse droppings love?
You think you are some genius, but pathetically you are just someone who translates what Polish shop lifters say all day......stick to that, not some analysis of a nation far older than the one you come from and will hopefully be returning to soon.....thids is a classic example of your dumbness, easily disproved, laughable to anyone wit even a middle school education yet I bet my last farthing you will never retract your statement as you know you are right, and we dumb lazy Britons are obviously wrong.....sad mare...

How many uprisings of any kind in England? Did the English poor and downtrodden ever revolt? The answer is a resounding NO.

Im sure people have pointed out the dozen or so uprisings ever century since AD43, maybe even pointed you at Tacitus. Lets just add the American revolution to this too as all the uprisers involved in that considered themselves to be Englishmen fighting for the Englishmans rights.......

A softly spoken mancunian accent on a girl can be an attractive trait.

But the other version can cut diamonds at a 100 paces :)
Still better than scouse though, those girls can make a dogs ears bleed :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Pirate Radio Station In Nottingham 87.5 FM ca.2008 [8]

Is there sort of martial law in Nottingham?

Yes, the Sheriff is p!ssed off ! ;)
Pawian, you seriously misjudge the Brits if you think we as a people have anything against Pirate Radio.
My only problem used to be whenever Id get anywhere near a major city my usual radio channels would be blocked out by what I can only describe as noise being shouted over in some unkown patois......so called *urban music* stations used to be a pain in the ears for anyone over 21.....

UK, Ireland / I'm currently living with a Pole who has been claiming benefits in the UK [35]

OK, you guys have a reason to be peed off, I agree but still, why come to the Polish forum if one doesn't like Poland and/or Poles, right?

Quite agree. I like Poland and quite a few Poles, its the government that let immigration spiral out of control that I get mad at not some Pole coming here for a better wage.

UK, Ireland / I'm currently living with a Pole who has been claiming benefits in the UK [35]

Oxon, why do you have such animosity toward Poles?

You asked me something along those lines but it ened in off topic for some reason, you were saying that Britain was used to immigration, that it had been part of our History since the year dot.

Fair point, that is true, the story of these islands does include invasions for centuries and then a long and proud history of taking in refugees.

Be they French protestants when the catholics were slaughtering them or jews when the Poles and Russians were slaughtering them, right upto bringing in Bosnians and Croats when the Serbs were slaughtering them and now Somaliis when they are slaughtering each other.

They came in their hundreds and sometimes thousands over decades.
Nearly two million Poles came here in less than 2 years, from a country they constantly tell us is far superior to the UK in every way and you wonder why people are p!ssed off at the immigration of so many people from a country where people are NOT getting slaughtered........do us a favour and engage brain for 2 seconds, the answer is obvious :)

UK, Ireland / Another load of Insults to the British [10]

All crap topics-

You are in New Jersey.....what would you know?
What would you know about living in a small town where in the space of a year 20 thousand young people from a completly different culture had arrived and forced down the hard fought for wages and working conditions for the locals? With no border checks anyone can get in with no questions asked, along with some nice people we have also had to accept the dregs of polish sociaty amongst us,getting drunk and violant on our streets ,living off the sort of unemployment relief they could only dream of back in poland and all the time snearing at the locals as though these failed polish drop outs from failed polish towns are some suppirior beings.....parasites more like.

2 million immigrants in 2 years to a country that just does not have the space or facilities to cope with its own rapidly increasing population.
yeah, no worries eh....sure no yank ever moans about Wetbacks and people only hablaing mexican do they.......
Hudson Hicks is a moaning wanker but not all of his points are invalid just because he spouts them.
