History / Was Prussia mostly German? [65]

See some people do not realize that Prussia of Teutonic Order consisted not only from lands taken from OLD Prussians but also from land taken form the Polish Crown.

It's perhaps worth defining Prussia - a vast area at its widest definition.

Nobody has to go to a Catholic school.

That's somewhat disingenuous given that RCC clergy are admitted into state schools and that the option of having Ethics lessons rather than religious instruction often exists only in theory.

when in 1308 Teutonic Order traitorously garbed Gdansk it was for all proposes and ethnically Polish settlement.

Does that have the slightest impact on what the status quo should be today any more than:

should Italian state have any claims to Istanbul because of Rome?

?

the only problem with is that if we dismiss Plinius, we have to also dismiss Socrates, Plato etc.

He is about as reliable as we can expect to find from that period and all evidence suggests that Slavic culture was further East.

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

22k was one part of the total deaths of up to 1million.

We aren't talking about all of them, are we? We are talking about specifics.

And yes, you still haven't apologised.

I think that saying the deaths of 22 thousand is the same as the deaths of six million is design to minimise and marginalise the deaths of six million.

Absolutely. It's horrific.

Jon apparently thinks a few tens of thousands or a hundred thousand or a million deaths is not important compared to his genocide, unless it below 6million its doesn't count.

What a bizarre thing to say - the only explanations can be either ignorance or trolling. Or both.

Still waiting for that apology.

Yes, but only if one considers Jews to be proper humans: it seems that Peter does not.

That's shocking.

the Holocaust and Soviet genocide crimes are somehow 'different'.

Actually the thread is about the murder of army officers at Katyn - which was a war crime, but on a very very different scale to gassing 6 million people because of their race.

You still haven't apologised.

How about explaining yourself.

How about reading the thread.
[quote=Tim Bucknall]indeed, its the rest of the world that doesn't know. i've lost count of how many times i've had to explain to brits[/quote

Would British people be more likely to know about Katyń than Poles about the Japanese atrocities against Britons. Would they need to?

Rather off-topic.

What't the latest on this nut? Is he still being held?

Once again, as so often, you've totally misunderstood the entire meaning of the thread. That or not actually read it.,

Either learn to read properly, or avoid commenting. Unless of course you'e just trolling - again nothing new.

Now it's time for you to apologise for your comments.

a sacramental marriage,

Not all marriages are 'sacramental'. Many are solemnised in a Register Office.

And then it was 'We don't have a place for the child of an unmarried couple', not even a lie about there being a clerical error or something, just a flat out statement.

That's deplorable.

The concept of 'sin' aside

I'm not sure we can leave that bigoted comment aside, being in the first line of the original post.

swept under the carpet

Perhaps you should reflect on the difference, not only between the two events but also on how one may move forward.

anti-semitic

As I say, you're obsessed.

Life / Please help me, with deciding a good Polish name for my baby boy :) [48]

Waldek, Włodzimierz, Lubomir, Żelisław, Marian (that's a girls name ain't it :P), Barabasz, Manfred, Kleofas, Kordian.

Crikey. Maybe Gniewomir, Ildefons or Seweryn too.

Don't forget that Daniel, Adrian, Damian, Robert are all perfectly Polish as well.

They haven't done it, despite overwhelming proof and the fall of the USSR 20 years ago. I doubt they're going to do it any time soon. And yes, everyone in PL has heard about it.

Law / Selling Industry Carrots in Poland? [4]

Probably easier to buy than sell in Poland - it's a major agricultural producer. Hortex are the big frozen vegetable company, though I'm pretty sure they buy locally.

You're asking the wrong question, johnb121.

A better one would be why some cultures seem unable to forgive and most importantly of all, why some people never move on, but in fact repeat their country's historical grievances while never, ever, admitting to their own wrongdoings. Even to the point of lessening the impact of the original events.

Even by the standards of Polish restrictive law - this is just perfectly legal lead balls.

And a suspicious thing to find along with 4 tonnes of fertiliser at the home of a chemist who had shown up in the Breivik investigation. Suspicious in the extreme.

I have got the same stuff in my basement.

It's hard to say that's positive - but then again, you haven't come under the police's radar as part of the investigation into Breivik's associates.

There isn't really any good reason to keep ammunition at home in a Polish town.

Just compare the level of professionalism:

So the Polish fascist was a bit of an amateur. Remember, second-rate people can kill too.

They arrested a man under the suspicion of possessing old Nokia phone, some electrical cable, old Russian lamp and a lot of cord. Green cord.

None of those things are illegal. one cannot be arrested on suspicion of possessing them. The bullets and the four tonnes of fertiliser had a bit more to do with it.

Unfortunately people who espouse extreme nationalist politics are just that - tin foil hat nutters. As Breivik has shown us, the consequences can be terrible.

At least this one was caught in time and will either face prison, mental health treatment or both.

What a silly comment. A foiled terrorist act by a guy with weapons and bomb making materials and plans to attack the parliament building is a big story.

There's a lot in that.

The internet does however feed the problem to a huge degree.
