Travel / Modlin airport in Poland - closed again! [28]

Really, they should have contracted the whole thing (construction and operation) to a European firm with experience of setting up low-cost airports. Basically, to somebody who can do it properly.

Genealogy / Can one become Polish? [21]

Can you become Polish? This is the issue I would like to start discussing here.

Thousands have. Many to their surprise in 1918.

Travel / Modlin airport in Poland - closed again! [28]

that walk from the train to the terminal is a joke

They could have done that a bit better, especially in a country that's icy cold in winter and at an airport where people arrive coatless from hot countries!

that PiS would have blamed russians
or someone else

It woz The Enemy Within wot did it ;-)

Travel / Modlin airport in Poland - closed again! [28]

the success of the government is making sure that the airfield got closed
before another polish tragedy

Exactly. No cover-up, no lies, no feeble excuses. They rightly closed the dump and are addressing the problem.

Travel / Modlin airport in Poland - closed again! [28]

Another 'success story' of PO and PSL government

Not that the failed PiS regime that preceded them managed to get a second airport built. They were probably too busy fighting over bribes.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Poland is not really a Third World country ..

An upper-middle income country. And how do you know what Democratic Korea looks like? Been there?

I don't want to bring a bunch of suits with lapels that are too wide or ties that are too thin.

Do you have much stuff like that?

Just go to Peek & Cloppenburg in the mall.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

You joking? this is the country who gave the world BSE

They didn't actually 'give the world BSE', it was around a long time before that outbreak. They were however completely open about it. No whitewash, supermarket shelves empty, and the world media being answered rather than fobbed off. And now people know it is safe.

It is obvious that governments in question and companies are doing everything to blame somebody else, just that stigma wouldn't be attached to their firm or their country.

Several firms are doing that. Only one country.

he routine usage of medications in horses banned in food animals, and the lack of tracking of this usage in horses. Unlike livestock raised for food, where all potential medications are tested for withdrawal times; approved or banned for usage, and vigilantly tracked for each animal, there is no way to guarantee which medications have or have not been used in a particular horse

Spot on. Fallen racehorses may be flown to Paris by lunchtime. There's no suggestion though that the Polish company was using Nijinsky.

Really the best way forward is to forget the normal Polish bureaucratic obfuscation and be completely open and pro-active about it. Only then will consumers in such an important market start to trust the rest of Polish meat products again.

It seems that some people prefer to get outraged at a perceived slight at their country than safeguard the livelihoods of people who work in the industry.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

There's something in that. As far as meat is concerned, one I like in Poland is the choice of good wędliny, if you're prepared to spend a bit more, it's possible to find very good stuff. The cheap stuff is rubbish. In Britain not wedliny (especially from supermarkets) can be dodgy - best to avoid unless you know an artisan who makes it. The fresh meat shops however tend to be much better.

The moral of the story is that anything can be put into processed food and nobody knows until a quality control audit.

No comment and further discussion with people like you because it is just a waste of my time .

You mean your nonsense was exposed for what it is. Nonsense.

History / Origins of Poland national differences? [41]

Arthur de Gobineau

Houston Stewart Chamberlain

Francis Parker Yockey

Hans F. K. Günther

A collection of prize turds if ever there was one.

I'm surprised you don't squeeze out Streicher, Otto Reche and Dudly Kidd into the same chamberpot.

Are you defending Mr Get Quick Rich because he is Jewish like you

Stuff like that would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Would ABP and Silvercrest buy and pay for sh*t if a Polish company wrapped it and labelled as beef too ?

It looks like they did exactly that.

Every part of the product is sampled and tested in Polish companies and we know what we eat .

Evidently you don't. You certainly seem to have forgotten about that meat scandal in Konstańcin not that long ago.

Smacznego!

Things are under the investigation right now

So the usual clutching at straws.

The most important thing is that the investigation is managed from outside Poland - ideally from a country with a higher rating at Transparency International

On Friday the Polish authorities said that all the tests had come back negative and suggested the source of the contamination may be in Ireland or England.

Precisely. Who do you trust more - a country like the UK who have a history of complete openness about food scares, or Poland?

So far, the Polish food is healthy, tasty and reliable

I think you know that isn't true.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Even if it is a company in Poland, owned and staffed by Poles that does not reflect on Poland and Poles in general.

Exactly - however there are some who are very touchy. A cultural cringe thing.

BP shambles the other year,British company,

International nowadays as they make a point of saying, with most of the work (especially in the Gulf of Mexico) done by local an US contractors. But there are still people who will associate the spill with Britain, even though there's no real British connection.

Same with the tainted meat from Poland - it will stick in people's mind unfortunately.

Can`t you read , isthatu is saying , don`t mix Poland and Polish with the word company

Rude and Moaning as ever, however it seems that most of us can read better than you.
The company in question has been named, the owners too. They are Polish and in Poland. let's hope they are investigated by international rather than local incvestigators, to ensure transparency and honesty.

So I am more disgusted by framing Poland in something which could be called "one man show" .

The Polish company weren't robbed of the horsemeat at gunpoint. Nobody twisted their arm into committing fraud. If they Irish firm were trying to cut a deal (note the if), anyone would have said no if they were honest.

And now, they've sown an unpleasant seed in the minds of shoppers about the reliability of food products from Poland.

Second of all - what is wrong with the horse-meat?It is very healthy after all! :)

What's wrong with a Peugeot? Nothing. But if you buy a Renault you expect to get a Renault.

Life / The old Polish FM Band (66-73 Mhz) R.I.P [3]

do you think many Polish households still have radios that cover the old FM band?

Loads I should think. there's a shop on ul.Pulawska that sells really old ones - not as retro decor, but because old folks like them.

while i'm asking about radio, do Unitra still make radios?

I don't think so, but you still see them

Kasprzak TVs as well.

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

To be totally honest though, I think 2000 net is hardly enough to survive for foreigner in Wroclaw. Possible, but very modest.

I'd say it's close to impossible.

You know, whatever offer they are giving you it's better than to continue to be unemployed!

Indeed.

Travel / A good kebab place in Warsaw? [45]

Do they have a branch by plac Wilsona

Yes. I'm not a huge fan, but that's more about the place than the food. Which is good.

There isn't really any competition for a long way around which means it's jammed at certain times of day and affects the service, which isn't great. I can recommend the hummous though.
