Travel / Best clubs in Krakow? No tourist traps. [64]

The Irish bar was awful. The Polish barman had a long face that would make most funeral goers appear positively jovial. Irish stuff on the wall? (I read) Eh, not really from what I saw. More Scottish music was playing.

Comparing it to many other European cities I've been to. I'd MUCH rather drink in Belgrade.

History / Do any Poles miss the Communist era? [35]

Of course they do. Can't you see? ;) If sth is truly forced upon you and you truly want to shake it off, you will. True character should shine through thereafter. Has it?? They had a chance to change to a system that suited them better but they often stuck with commie ways. That's telling!

I can't say the nightlife was impressive at all. Floriańska and Sw Jana were hyped up but were sh*t. It's call commercial BS like when I was in Berlin. Posers and losers!

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

I think there is a certain expectation amongst certain Poles, esp the older ones, that the state will help them. Therefore, the socialist model fits them to a tee.

We should just be glad they didn't cover a Cardiff City football match. Is it the Soul Crew they call themselves, the hooligans there? Wow, talk about hostile! Then again, Kraków hooligans are just as bad!

Maybe if you had asked for 'Okocim', you might have got it ;) ;)

Kidding aside, I didn't really notice that in Wrocław 7 years ago. A little bit after alcohol, yes, but that's normal. That's when the meatheads here start throwing their weight around. Krakowian Poles are mixed like anywhere but you can see a few classy folk around :)

I think Poles just don't like boorishness from others. If people are sitting and minding their own business without being intrusive, all should be well :) There are some that don't like English spoken here but that's not a problem in Kraków.

That's true to a point, BBMan. Poland has bore the brunt of silly jokes for too long but those photos are no joke. I can remember 15 years ago when I was a student. Some girls were really up themselves in Scotland and having travelled a lot since then, I can safely say that even the top ones would only be slightly above average here. Whilst the British binge drinking culture doesn't really bother me, it still brings out some ugly specimens.

My wife and I are off to Kraków this weekend and I really don't want to bump into too many Brits. The hotel I'm staying at is for Brits but I hope not to make a lot of contact with any stag party types.

There are many conservative folk in Britain too. It can be irritating for some Brits to see a critique of their country in this way, esp when such people always believe that Poles are milking the economic cash cow. Such is the perception of some.

Law / How deep is the Gloom in the Poland's Economy [84]

It gets tiring listening to so-called experts painting a negative picture of things here. As Tusk said in his previous blog of 21/09/11, times are tough for some but it doesn't change the reality of the following,

youtube.com/user/PlatformaRP?v=fKudQHFsOzw&feature=pyv&ad=8047918610&kw=#p/u/1/gH7BE31l5wM

I'm not a PO supporter as Polish politics don't really interest me that much but this is a plus for them if his allegations indeed are true.

Isthatu2 made a fair point about the Catholic guilt complex. I saw it amongst Scottish Catholics and it can lead you down a path of ruin. Hiding behind the cloak of religion is quite lame in modern times.

The degradation largely comes through decadence, IMHO. However, Poles are moving in that direction too, pawian. For example, I am far less materialistic than the youngsters I see around me.

Pawian, be careful about using the word better when the word different will do. Poles walk around with kebabs and pizzas, Brits with fish&chips or some Chinese dish. People need to eat after drinking, you know? ;)

Less morally corrupt? Um, to a point perhaps but again it's just a generalisation. Plenty of bribes, backhanders and corruption here. And I was told that good Catholics don't do that kind of thing ;)

I don't know about you but I like looking at womens' flesh :) Showing some leg is normal and I like it :)

More traditional? Yes but maybe too much so. Scotland, for example, is a family-oriented culture but we don't go overboard.

Some may see Poles as boring but I like the order and general good conduct here :)
