Law / How deep is the Gloom in the Poland's Economy [84]

In 1999 a waitress in my friend's cafe in Poland earned 5 zl/hr and a coffee cost 5 zl. Today the waitress still earns 5 zl/hr and now coffee is 6. So a person has to work over an hour to buy a stinking cup of coffee? Wouldn't this make you gloomy? Where are the statistics to cheer that person up?

your observation is correct.

Really? You're friends with people who exploit their workers, seeing as the minimum wage is actually much higher than that?

Stop attacking people for telling the truth, after tax many people are on this amount, next time your in the supermarket ask a worker how much they earn into the hand...

If you are on 86 euro a week and it's taxed how much do you get an hour in the hand?? You'd be doing well to pay for a cup of coffee.

Law / How deep is the Gloom in the Poland's Economy [84]

Well that will never happen in the UK.

True and even if it's halved in Ireland,it will still be high in Polish terms.

Poles are telling me that much foodstuff and many mundane consumer items are now equally priced or sometimes even more expensive in Poland than in Ireland. At broadly speaking one quarter of Irish salaries, and if the trend continues, I would imagine that many Poles especially those who currently straddle poverty and relative comfort, will simply not be able to afford to live in Poland at some stage.

Very true. The rising costs of food and fuel in Poland and the effects on disposable income/economy.

However, is it not generally the case that more or less all prices have increased and continue to increase relatively dramatically in recent years while wages/salaries stay static?

exactly

you are better off on the dole in the UK and particularly Ireland
than you would be jobless in Poland, particularly if your kids are settled in the local schools

But, many will want to return home over time, especially if the dole is slashed to the extent that home may not look so bad. Also, the Polish economy will need someone to pay for their elderly in the not so far future.

Law / How deep is the Gloom in the Poland's Economy [84]

It's illogical and condescending to compare countries that do not have mass emigration, with Poland. If the sh1t does hit the fan and the Pole abroad have to return home, then Poland can be compared to the core states of Europe. Just because the wealthy countries are in major trouble doesn't mean Poland is sailing; can't compare a house with a big tent.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Maybe a large shell of a house(sh1thole) in a place with zero chance of employment, but not something of medium size in a reasonable condition.

Ireland wages are four time higher at least and.......

UK, Ireland / 50 babies a day born to Polish mothers in UK [81]

It's a hollywood thing I think.

From my experience a lot(nearly all) of Dublin people are convinced that this is the way all non Dub Irish speak. Culchie (backward redneck)

Daily Mail, right wing t1ty tabloid designed to inflame the mob.
Did this paper back the Irish and the Danes when they rejected the undemocratically enforced EU treaties?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

No comment on my house for 1500 PLN / m2?

found in 20 seconds, find me 10 more so??

German suggestion that dole start at €200 and drop by €1 per week for 2 years a very good suggestion I think.

To hell with the Germans, if they didn't loan our cowboys the money(with their phony stress tests) in the first place, we would not be in such trouble. The dole needs to be cut but only after the country defaults and tell the Germans and all the rest of the Black and Tans to f0ck off......Then the dole can be cut and wages can be lowered, any other suggestion is just prolonging the inevitable....(and satisfying the reactionary)

Polish apartment prices continue to fall(is the topic btw)

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Watching ads over the years I have noticed that Poles don't lower prices when flats go unrented

Not sure that it's a Polish thing. In my hometown in Ireland for example, there is a real fancy place along the river and almost half the apartment there are empty, this past few years. Once the landlords drop the rent by about 30%, people move in. However, landlords are letting their places remain empty in the hope of a miracle recovery. It's understandable as they may have their pension dependent on these properties or they themselves may have purchased other properties or property in the 2000-07 period(so they to are in the sh1t). So it's not a Polish thing, it's just people in despair and denial, they thought they were rich there for a while ; and 'now' they simply don't want to or can't afford to burst the illusion. Time and reality will burst it for them.

The free-market economy, have to keep it in context, as it's an international system. This very recent post is about Polish though..

You can get a bit of korepetycja or bar work to help pay day to day bills but the kind of cash from that will never buy property at these prices - besides to get a mortgage you generally need income that it documented and contracted for.

The thread has gone of topic, this was the last related post...(above)

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Really, within reason, there is no right or wrong accent, just intelligibility.

I Think it was a book by Antony Burgess(Mouth Full Of Air) that I read about 10 years ago. It stated that the Posh English accent (that Thatcher and others speak) originated from a small area in London that prospered hugely in the early days of the industrial revolution.( I can't remember the name of the town) Ever since then, people who rise in status in the Uk / Eire adopt this accent. So it's all a load of b0L0x, like white guys with dreadlocks speaking in a Jamaicin accent.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

I have italian friends who have a house in Florence Italy which has not been rented for 2 years now because she says the rent they want is too high for the local market but they don't want to lower it because their property is luxurious, the value of their fitted kitchen itself would be worth several years of rent.

Well, alot of the place over here are just glorified birdcages, and still, they try to sell or rent them for extortionist prices; even though they bought them for a fraction of the price. That's capitalism I guess and it's their choice.

I'd imagine that any female creature you can get would be unlike me.

A female man?

which is pretty damn sad really.

Got silver in the three-legged race in the under 12 community games as well.

but then do you actually have any strengths at all? It certainly seems not from your performance here.

I have medals Harry for the 100metre sprint under 12's and under 14's in the community games,AND I have no problems with getting women unlike you Harry..

Surprized that nobody mentioned the long article on this in Gazeta W last Monday which talked about reasons why young couples can no longer afford flats. It had plenty Milky's sentiments but was backed by plenty of numbers.

must track that down.

(plenty of teachers work a mere 9 hours a week to get ZUS paid,

A 'mere'??

at 50zl a shot, that can easily be an extra 4000zl in income

an extra 25 private classes a week?? you'd be dead in a month.
Should we not be talking about the average Pole?? are you not being a bit overtly subjective
here...

a nice flat in the city will cost 6000 PLN / m2 bit if you drive a few miles outisde you'll get a house for 1500 PLN/m2.

Please show examples of this point that you keep making.

The money coming in from the US/ireland and the UK is drying up.

Big time and then the Polish government will have to actually govern, instead of exporting the surplus and claiming that unemployment is down and that the country has escaped the recession bla bla bla.

I did a remodel of a 23 m2 flat in centrum Warsaw

Who bought it?a dwarf?

inflated-

like a bubble.

a very very long time..

even 50 years or more, long wait.

many towns have shrinking populations as young people head for cities or abroad.

Almost the entire east of the country.

If they can afford to wait ,why sell at a lower price?

Well logically, they wait until they can't afford to wait.

no bubble..Over the span of years 2002-2008 real estate prices in Poland have increased drastically. Between June 2006 and June 2007 alone the average price of a square metre in Warsaw rose from 6,683 PLN (1,636 EUR) to 9,540 PLN (2,519 EUR) (over 50% rise in euro terms).[1]
