News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

Without the American market, bye bye China.

Nice fantasy, the US makes up about 15% of Chinese total trade with the world. The majority of their dollar holdings are in Fannie and Freddie, and they've already quickly diversified into non dollar holdings over the last couple of years...while still being the largest foreigner buyer of US debt (by far).

Germany still has a positive trade balance with China...I've always wondered why Poland didn't follow the German labor model. Seems it is poised in a position to be an incredibly strong specialized export country.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

Simple answer is that Slavs are still considered barbarians by many in the West, and in USA...Slavs in general need more self-promotion in terms of positive media images...NWO, this being Anglo/US/Zionist axis, is not pro-Slav...Take it from there in terms of what the reality is, and what must be done to rectify situation, if you feel situation needs adjustment.

Which explains Russia not being "given the cold shoulder".

Argentina, with no communist past, had an inflation of 200% in the 80's, managed to default on its debts in 2003, its economy collapsed

You forgot to mention that it was under military dictatorship for quite a few of those years...Economically, not unlike Communism...

The British task force (40 Harrier jets vs. Argentina's 200 jets) wiped Argentina clean out of Falklands in about 2 months, with a 1:3 casualty rate in British favor. Is this what makes a country a "military power"?

A little bit of US and French help goes a long way, wouldn't you say?

This is your definition of an "economic power"?

On the continent, yes.

News / Independence Blood Bath on Polish roads over the long weekend. [69]

Ever notice the crosses on the side of the road?

Of course, and the candles. I noticed the same thing in Bayern...

I think we all know now nott is a drink driver. Wonder what his excuse is....?

Maybe he just drinks to the German limit...which is a lot higher than the Polish limit, but yet produces a lot less accidents.....

you wrote "By 1,880 drunk drivers", as if those people were killed and injured by drunk drivers... which the article didn't say...

They clean 'em quick. I 'm sure you notice the candles and flowers by the side of the road.
On the stretch running out of town there are three which I pass daily, tragic and infuriating.

Exactly, it doesn't need to be sensationalized, it's already bad enough.

Would you like to argue that alchohol wasn't a factor in the 130% increase in deaths from the previous year? If so, can you back your argument up with some data?

What? Where did you pull that from? I just noted that you misquoted the article.

Anyway, the "By 1,880 drunk drivers" that you posted is misleading. That just means that they stopped 1,880 people who blew positive for alcohol. Anything over 0.00 in Poland means you're driving under the influence. The article doesn't say that 90 people are dead, and 652 injured due to drunk drivers.

Does anyone care?

No, didn't you hear? People won't be harmed by second hand smoke anymore! We're all safe!

Also, dopalacze is now illegal in Poland! Granted that it hasn't been proven that anyone has died from them alone, it still caused a huge outrage and was found to be an epidemic warranting emergency legislation.

What's that you say? Alcohol? Nah, don't worry about it.

Real Estate / Buying a flat in Krakow; prices are still falling? [200]

No

Bought studio flats in Warsaw 6 years ago. Rent I get for one I leases last week is 1700 per month (plus bills)

Yield 7-8% can't see prices falling as the yield would be too attractive.

Does that mean that you paid about 250k for them 6 years ago?

Study / School of Polish for Foreigners at the University of Lodz [43]

Question - are there any other universities in Poland offering Polish language/culture courses? I'm more partial to universities as opposed to private language schools.

Just about every town with a major university offers Polish courses for foreigners.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

You mean he shouldn't feel hurt by the racist in its nature insult?

I must have missed the racist insult in there.

Most Americans don't know much about Poland because they don't care about Poland. Seems pretty natural.

Isn't the "joke" in question one more proof that, after all, Americans know something about Poland?

You mean that it exists? Sure, I'll go with the majority of Americans definitely know that Poland exists, and can probably relate to a "Giant Jesus gap" joke. Either way, great piece as usual from Colbert.

There are far more important aims to which we could put the money

I think that they little comic strip on the last page addressed this ;) If we used this same argument, there would be no statues anywhere in the world.

it's about money a tourist trap, people will come and see it from all over the world
it is just old fashion greed wrap in fate

They said that from the beginning.

I just think it's neat that an invisible man who preached against idols gets turned into a giant concrete statue. Strange world.

History / Nice video of De Gaulle addressing Poles [10]

wasn't he a General during that time, surly he could have given some military advice/pressure

He was a colonel who wasn't exactly held in high regard.

History / Nice video of De Gaulle addressing Poles [10]

Dear and noble Poland, A heartfelt message to all Poles , thank you, goodbye. Long live Poland, dear, noble, brave Poland.

CDG spent a good long while in Poland. It's a shame that he didn't do more to help Poland after the war (as one of the victors).

Food / Polish Beer Recipes [39]

Any ideas of where is best to get bottles (I've seen them in Carrefour). He also wants to start mashing ... help on where in Warsaw or close is has ingredients for sale would be appreciated - if there is anywhere that is.

I'd suggest kegging it. It's much easier :)

For bottles, just save up your empties from here on out and buy caps at the beer store.

I don't know Warsaw, but that company that I mentioned earlier has a store there.

Warszawa - Sklep Piwowar - ul. Słowackiego 27/33 lokal 190 Magda Kobus, tel. (022) 832 31 62 lub (604) 55 80 55

Let me know how it works out.

Polonia / What are social and cultural occupations of Poles in Germany ? [30]

It's good natured teasing. It goes back and forth....

What are social and cultural occupations of Poles in Germany ?

What kind of Poles are you talking about? First generation, second generation? Legal immigrants or illegals?

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

Perhaps you're just lost and that's the problem...

I'm not Polish. Like I've posted in other places, individual Poles have the same goals as their neighbors. There are some family members that do everything in their power to avoid seeing each other, and some that live together. Some folks want a big ass house to show off with, some people are happy living with their parents until they're 40. Some people are career oriented, some people don't care. Some want families, some don't.

Just like everywhere else. Poles eat different food sometimes and speak a different language. That's the only difference I can see between Poles and their neighbors. Subgroups and individuals however...

In the words of the great sheep, some do, some don't.

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

The exact same things as other human beings. There was a good answer a while back somewhere on the forums, "It may shock many, but Poles are not alien beings from the planet Polonilok" :)
