Language / Polish conjugation - Present Tense [7]

actually there are umpteen conjugation classes in Polish but all are grouped in 4 main ones - the best way for you to find conjugation forms based on a infinitive is the Dictionary of Polish Language website (Słownik Języka Polskiego) - sjp.pwn.pl - just put the infinitive form in their search engine and it will show you the most important forms of conjugation

Language / Polish past tense, confusion - łem, łeś, łam, łaś, ła etc. / przeczytasz [11]

does putting Prze in front of present tense verbs make something im not aware about.

adding a prepositional prefix like 'prze' to a verb in the present tense makes it a verb in the future tense (in the perfective aspect ie. the action will be completed in the future) - there are no perfective verbs in the present tense( as there are no completed/finished actions in the now)

czytam książkę - I read a book.
przeczytam tę książkę do jutra - I will have finshed this book by tomorrow.
Jutro będę czytał gazety. I will be reading newpapers tomorrow. - this is the imperfective form of future tense

Life / Anyone like the Polish artist Zdzislaw Beksinski? [5]

you mean Zdzisław Beksiński? - yes he is quite well known - very original - died tragically (murdered) - suffered from a personal tragedy before: his son, who was a popular radio presenter and translator, committed suicide

Life / Do the Poles have a positive attitude towards the Danes and Denmark? [16]

there are no stereotypes of Danes in Poland - not many people know anything about Denmark - perhaps the only thing they ever saw connected to Denmark was films from the Egon Olsen series

having said that there are people fascinated with Denmark - I used to study some Danish language - I don't remember a lot to be honest but I can still say 'Jeg elsker Danmark' :)

Travel / Do trains in Poland arrive on time? [38]

My understanding is the only time Polish trains arrived on time was between 1939 and 1945 and Germans were steering them.

actually Polish railways were proverbially punctual before the war - one could set watches to the trains

Life / Fresh Christmas trees sale in Poland [20]

a fir (swierk)

Poles typically don't have firs for Christmass trees - świerk is spruce - spruce is more aromatic from what I can tell - having said that we didn't have fresh Christmass tree in years though we live in a forest

Life / Unmetered landline internet in Poland (bez limitu) [5]

as far as I know most of landline internet connections in Poland don't have a data transfer limit - the only factor that limits you is the speed of the connection

it is different with mobile connections

Love / What to get my Polish girlfriend for her birthday / 6 months? [3]

I wanted to get her a bracelet/ring/necklace with her name or initials carved in, but I don't know where to start in a foreign country and I doubt it's something I can order online.

you need to buy the item first and let it to be 'wygrawerowane' - most of jewelers do 'grawerowanie' on the premises or at least they cooperate with a 'grawer'

bracelet is bransoletka
ring is pierścionek
necklace is naszyjnik

there are jeweler's online search for 'biżuteria online' -

Love / Am I wasting my time with this Polish guy ? [18]

But the connection between two people it is necessary or as a man do you think differently ??

I would think sex is necessary in a loving relationship and a woman has every right to seek sexual fulfillment in a relationship - the thing is I believe it would be difficult for you to 'unlove' the guy - but maybe the step will become necessary at some point

Love / Am I wasting my time with this Polish guy ? [18]

he sounds like a closet gay

if he were a gay he wouldn't visit Polish dating sites (I presume he was reading girls' profiles)

the guy is pretty strange in that he does not need a lot of sex - but I am personally even stranger because I don't need sex at all - but I'm not in a relationship so this is not hurting anyone

Love / Am I wasting my time with this Polish guy ? [18]

Is this relationship the normal type of way for polish guys

the guy is not a typical Polish guy - I don't believe he will get any better either - I'm not really sure if he loves you at all - I don't envy you

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

Should I be concerned?

Well, there is some racism lingering in Poland especially among low-educated male youth (hooligans) - your physical appearance can draw stares from people but they should rarely be hostile

Real Estate / Extra costs when buying a flat in Poland [13]

"WAŻNA INFORMACJA - kamienice przy ul. XX są objęte Programem Rewitalizacji Wrocławskich Kamienic"

well the programme is not a large scale programme (i have just looked it up)- there are hundreds of pre-war buildings in Wrocław and only handful a year get renovated (this year only 5 buildings started to be renovated) - that the buildings in question are being planned for renovation does not mean you can expect it soon

Real Estate / Extra costs when buying a flat in Poland [13]

How does that fund work? I mean, do you have the warranty that they will eventually end up renewing the building? And when they do, can they charge an extra lump sum?

they can raise the fundusz remontowy part of the czynsz for a time after finishing some bigger renovation project - I never heard of lump sums charged but maybe it can depend on what is the owner status (if it's housing cooperative or a pirvate owner)

the renovation fund works this way: financial recources are gathered for a time for a planned investition, after the necessary sum has been gathered the investition takes place (housing cooperatives and private owners can hasten the carrying out of the investition (some kind of renovation) by taking credit and then raising the renovation fund part of rent for a time) - when the renovation fund contribution is low it can take a lot time between investitions (and renovating the outside of the building is often a pretty expensive investition)

Real Estate / Extra costs when buying a flat in Poland [13]

Who pays the notary? The buyer or the seller? How much is that?

the buyer - the amount depends on the price of the flat in question - it can amount to a couple thousand PLN - in the case of 400 thousand flat it would amount to 1360 PLN (edit: sorry it would amount to 2360 PLN - my mistake)

Are there extra taxes or expenses beside the above?

Yes there is a tax involved - you pay it at the notary office - the tax is 2 per cent of the value of the flat - in case of a 400 thousand flat it would amount to 8 thousands PLN

Real Estate agency fee can be the highest expense here - they typically charge 3 per cent of the price of the flat but it can be negotiated

Law / A question about divorce - how to get it from my ex who left Poland to Germany? [8]

there is a possibility that the court will not allow for divorce if it is going to harm the well-being of the children (be it economical or psychological) - my advice is hire a good lawyer - not showing up in court will not stop the court from ruling a divorce (I know my mother was divorcing my dad and he didn't show up)

Love / "going to dinner with my sis..." - approaching a Polish girl, help needed [46]

Gumishu indeed thats what I am afraid of. How would that be perceived by a polish girl in general?

I am not really an expert on women even on Polish ones - but I would presume that a girl with a self respect (and if she works in an office environment in England she must be more than your average Polish girl) would not think very highly of a man who cannot invest his feelings and efforts in one person at a time - as someone mentioned here before you may have to be more persistent - one evening out may not be enough of a signal for her ( I believe you are not just after sex even though you may not have crystalised feelings about the girl)
