History / Russians 'tortured to death' in Polish camps? [58]

Yea right, since when does Russia respect the dead or it's neighbors?? It's the bully on the block stopping only when tired or exhausted. The Russian soldiers were there to conquer Poland what respect do they deserve? Russians get mad at Estonians for taking down a statue or changing the writing, Estonians spoke the truth they didn't come there to liberate them but to re-occupy their small country, drunk Russian soldiers, rapists.

History / Russians 'tortured to death' in Polish camps? [58]

I'm divided on the topic. First of all, the strong language (brutally, tortured, death camp) is out of place and indicates the true intention of the initiators.

What i'd like to know is who did the Russians get to place that plaque in Poland?

History / Russians 'tortured to death' in Polish camps? [58]

A plaque containing an inscription in Russian has appeared on a memorial near an old Polish prison-of-war camp dating from the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1919-1921, stating that Red Army soldiers were "brutally tortured in Polish death camps".

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

Russia better keeps watching it's own problems...what you will do when you don't sell yo much of your gas and oil anymore because countries like Germany don't depend on your energy so much anymore? You can't stop the future ;)

Good point for decades even back during Soviet times Russia has relied only on it's natural resources for income. It had so much time to invest in technology, didn't they think the resources aren't gonna be around forever?

News / American lifeguard towers on Polish beaches [7]

The town of Rewal in West Pomerania en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rewal will be the first coast town to introduce "Baywatch" style lifeguard towers on a Polish beach, 18 of them. Everyone likes the idea maybe other towns will follow:

Baywatch in Polish

Weather we have slightly worse than in California, beautiful women certainly no less , and even handsome rescuers to find - it's just for them arise booth at the sight of which the eyes are Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff . Living from tourism seaside municipality Rewal wants to promote its beaches are conformed to those familiar with the TV series " Baywatch " .

A small wooden shed on the platform. Seemingly modest , but few are this time of year sunbathers recognize it at once: for this is the show, " Baywatch " ! - Enjoy .

Police radars ... Each one of us liked the rescue , wildly spectacular. (...) All of us , young people, even young people, brought up on the TV series " Baywatch " or naoglądał to Pamela Anderson .

Objective: To photograph the shapes . Just find a sponsor.

Mayor Rewal , because there stood first in Poland to shed rescuers from California , does not hide that it was a TV hit from the 90s was an inspiration . - Each of us liked the rescue , wildly spectacular. (...) All of us , young people, even young people, brought up on the TV series " Baywatch " or naoglądał to Pamela Anderson - admits frankly Mayor Robert Skraburski .

or are transformed into Latin alphabet used in Poland?

First there aren't too many of one single nationality in Poland that uses it, if there was i'm sure they'd have bi lingual signs. Second Cyrillic is a lost alphabet, most EU citizens use Roman it's bound to be extinct.

Can't you see double standards and hypocrisy in such thinking?

But Silesians (since most Slavic Silesians see themselves as Poles) are ethnic Germans and they have their own schools and dual language road signs and 2 parliament members so for their small minority numbers they are well represented in Poland,

different due to the fact that Scots aren't looking to take over areas of England.

Good point Ironside has. Scotland hasn't been independent in ages yet so many still would like to see a independent Scotland. I know Poles in Lithuania have a homeland in Poland if they choose to go back, yet since that part of Lithuania used to be Poland and is still mostly populated by Poles, they just expect equality.

It all sounds nice on paper (for them) but it's discriminatory and prejudice against others (Poles) there's no other way of seeing it.

I can deal with it as you weren't born here.

Oh thank you for letting me be lol. No one wants to cheat themselves and pretend to be something they're not. Like our brothers in Lithuania they're living in a region which is predominately Polish ,they speak Polish at home, often in school they date and marry other Poles, it's their little homeland away from their homeland.

The problem is that Poland is also discriminating against Lithuanians - for instance, did you know that although there are Lithuanian schools, they're forced to use Polish language textbooks because the Polish Ministry of Education won't approve any Lithuanian-language ones?

Now is this starting way back when, or is it a recent retaliation of how Poles are treated in Lithuania?

Look at it this way GW, you're part German you're American but seam to be sympathetic towards Germany. Now imagine if you were still American but of full German decent, then imagine you were born there and at 10 yr old moved to America, do you think u'd think of yourself as more American than German!?? see where i'm coming from.

OK, PB I can accept it but not if you came to have a better life and then say, fu*k Americans and everything American. You see what I'm saying?

I'm not saying fu*k America, i like this country but I love Poland. I never sat on welfare like many of it's citizens or got in trouble with the law, i work, pay taxes.

No problems whatsoever with Polish (just an example, it could be German etc.) clubs etc. as long as people realize why they left their country and came here. If someone wants to live here as a foreigner, why he even left his country to begin with? (Not really a question, I know why, no need to explain it).

Money, the unanimous number 1 reason, I don't think my parents or me would have ever left Poland if it wasn't to seek a well paying job and a better life 9better financially). I love Poland even after so many years abroad, when i go back i feel and know i'm home, you can't expect people to forget who they are. The Poles in Lithuania, even though they aren't Polish born they still feel Polish.

Lithuanians are at home on their ancestral lands, even the area that USED to be Polish was before Lithuanian, no one is gonna chase them away or take it from them. Only thing they could fear is being breaded out, Poles make up less than 7% no fear there, they need to calm down and let them be.

well PB, you know I like you but I have to admit that whoever lives in another country is expected to assimilate and those who refuse it, never will be treated nicely by the locals.

I like you too GW, but Lithuania is not America were everyone came from somewhere else, beside ethnic Lithuanians they got two or three larger ethnic groups that's all, plus Poland is right next door. No one is America forces another group to assimilate they do so if they choose. Look at Mexicans, in southern Cali places like LA they are the majority, in many or most parts it's hard to hear English, no one cares.

I'm all for it, i don't think Poland has any Commonwealth ambitions to regain all it's former eastern territories, so if they wanna remain Poles come back to the fatherland. But Poland is still a relatively poor country if it wasn't no one would even have to ask.

The association of Poles in Lithuania say they've even started to lie and lower the census numbers of Poles in Lithuania, i guess trying to make people think that Poles are assimilating and they should to.

And it's not just the names, road signs in Wileńszczyzna a region where most people are of Polish descent had to be taken down, schools are being closed down, that's discrimination.

News / EU tribunal overrules Polish name contest in Lithuania [150]

The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg has ruled that Lithuania has the right to impose Lithuanian spellings of Polish surnames on its territory.
thenews.pl/international/artykul155244_eu-tribunal-overrules-polish-name-contest-in-lithuania.html

The Lithuanians are mad that Poles even though they've lived there (in large numbers) for 200 years want to remain Poles and not assimilate. Russians came in large numbers after 1945, today those that didn't go back to Russia have assimilated, pleasing the Lithuanians. In my opinion, the Poles have the right to maintain their identity, they speak both languages, work the Lithuanians shouldn't try to force them to assimilate.

Are Polish territories natively German?

Supposedly the western half is. Eastern Poland is where we come from eastern Poland and western Ukraine (just north of the Carpathians) is the homeland of Slavs. At least the West and East Slavs.

USA, Canada / Chicago's 1.1 million Polish Americans celebrated Constitution Day [47]

A more interesting statistic would be - how many of them are actually Polish by citizenship?

Some 250,000 in metro Chicago area speak Polish at home, so there's ur answer.

You cannot be Polish if you don't have Polish citizenship.

I have one, and most Poles who come here keep their citizenship.

However, if you look at the citizenship number - then somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 Polish citizens would probably be correct.

I think ur guessing now.

As I said - how many Polish citizens are among the alleged 1.1 million Poles?

1.1 million, if they know they're of Polish ancestry and are proud of it, point it out then they are.

I happen to live on the same block where the Polish Consulate is located.

I was in Chicago once bout 5 years ago so i dunno. Is it true that the Polish areas have become multi-cultural there too? I know in Northern New Jersey in towns like Clifton, Garfield, and Passaic where there is a strong Polish presence Mexicans have become our neighbors in recent years. I like them far more than other people because they at least work hard and don't just sit on welfare. Here in Philly they're becoming numerous in the predominately Italian, South Philly section.
