News / First female Polish Mig-29 pilot [8]

People like kondzior. I do not know your opinion towards women, so I cannot judge that.
Bob for sure.

Life / How popular is Radio Maryja in Poland? [163]

Bob, tell us...what mr maybach did do with the money he "collected" from all these very poor babcias "to save the shipyards" ?

And by the way...Bob...you still have to give us an example of European churches turned into brothels? Because that is a serious accusation, even by the Vatican's standards.

I posted here a request to kondzior and his medieval approach to women - why was it deleted?

News / First female Polish Mig-29 pilot [8]

They actually do, but as far as I know they all all modernized.
Part of them Poland got from Germany.
However the point here is that a woman finally became a fighter pilot in Poland :)
About time :)

News / First female Polish Mig-29 pilot [8]

Lieutenant Catherine Tomiak is the first Polish woman who sat at the controls of a combat aircraft MIG -29 . Colleagues from 22nd Tactical Air Base in Malbork provide its full professionalism and determination. - At the beginning I was not treated seriously, but I grew up on a hard and crone - says Katarzyna .

For all woman-haters on this forum who think women belong in the kitchen :)))

Maybe Polonius could tell us where all the money went to, which he was collecting from all poor babcias "to save the shipyards" ?

Radio Marija is a bastion of fiendish embezzlement of money from the poorest and most vulnerable people in Polish society.

History / Looking for This Photo of Main Street Warsaw WW2 [7]

[Moved from]: Interesting exposition in Warsaw

In 'Dom Spotkań z Historią" on ul. Karowa (near Hotel Bristol) there is again a very interesting photo expo. dsh.waw.pl/pl/3_1468

In 1947 a group of American architects visited, amongst others, Warsaw to see how the postwar reconstruction was going on. A American photographer, Harry Cobb, was making a unique series of colour photographs of 1947 Warsaw. Worth seeing.

By the way, DSH is one of the more interesting cultural institutions in Warsaw. They have a really good program of readings, expositions, movie screenings etc. And a very good bookshop.

We walked today on Krakowskie Przedmieście past the Bristol Hotel, and saw the open-air part of this exposition. Very, very good.
It gave a weird feeling to see Warsaw in crystal-clear colour photographs...They looked somehow from a movie scene -
Surreal - because you look at photos taken from a destroyed city (and in full reconstruction) but because of the colour they looked...weird :)
Because we are of course used to see photos from that epoch in black/white.
The comments also were very good - as to be expected from DSH.
We definitely will go back for the museum part of it.

News / Kaczorowski should be reburied at Wawel [15]

Actually the room where President Kaczynski
is buried should be converted to 'Smolensk room' and all victims of Smolensk murder should be buried there. It will happen.

They should both be moved or the cathedral in Warsaw (where the first Polish president is buried), or to Powązkowski civil or military cemetery.

Only kings, queens and enduring genuine national heroes should lie in Wawel.

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

The expat sceme is a bubble in Warsaw,

I avoid then whole expat scene. Never went to the WTF. Never will go there. Sooooo expat.
Why should I love to meet a Belgian...just because he/she is Belgian? I have no need as such. I meet with people because they are... people.

Same goes for, why should I meet up with a EU foreigner...because he is just that...a foreigner?

Here i Bielany there is a good pizzeria, serving good pasta and pizza. It is a local place. Never will win a Michelin star. Sure it is not expat grade.

It will never make it to IYP. But we go there with the neighbours. A pizza and a beer. Much more is not necessary

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

He didn't resist arrest and he admit it. Couldn't admit it before anything happened.

Hard to resist after you crashed into a lighting pole.
Hard to admit when you are taxed with 2,5%.
Scandalous when already the next day the prosecutor tells 8 months of community service should suffice.

News / Lech Walesa is not a democrat and this statement proves it. [24]

I didn't know you were a racist

That was meant sarcastically. Besides as I remember Zimbabwe had a well-developedcivilization as well in ancient times.
Still comparing Wałęsa to Mugabe is a bridge too far I think.

Real Estate / 100% LTV mortgage possible for foreigner in Poland? [9]

I would be very surprised if they would grant you such a mortgage. After all this is what caused the current banking crisis. People borrowing up to their mouths.

News / Lech Walesa is not a democrat and this statement proves it. [24]

But nobody can argue that he played a decisive role in post-1980 Poland, whatever his shortcomings.

You are completely sick. Mugabe is an African dictator. Living in trees when we built cathedrals. Wałęsa jumped literally the fence and changed Polish history. He only did not know where to stop. That is his enduring weakness

Law / Need pesel number, any advice gratefully received [6]

How do you connect a PESEL number to profit? Strange.

How do I get a pesky PESEL? I wrote the local town hall, and I think they said I can't have a PESEL as I'm "temporary" in status

A PESEL number is not pesky. It is the basic of your residence status in Poland. I had a PESEL from the beginning , when I had a karta pobytu for two years.

As far as I know, your gmina has to give you a PESEL number

News / Lech Walesa is not a democrat and this statement proves it. [24]

Actually I know nobody who cares for him anymore.
He is a classic example of a hero who did not know where to stop. If he would not have run for president, he still would be held in high esteem.

But nobody can argue that he played a decisive role in post-1980 Poland, whatever his shortcomings.

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

The main problem with Warsaw is the sellers, not what is available on the market.

Well here in Bielany - I do not know about other parts of Warsaw - it is specific. Bielany is a pre-war district. Part of it houses (all of them pre-war) existing here mostly have big gardens and are situated on smaller streets - some of them on the last gas-lighted streets in Warsaw (and together with its cobblestones quite romantic). But houses tend to stay "within the family". That means, not sold to outsiders. If for example babcia dies and her house "is free" it will stay in her family. Rarely you see houses sold here on the real estate market. I know of one which is for sale already for a year (close to Metro Stare Bielany) but that is an exception. Maybe for its astronomical price (1,4 million PLN)

Rest is divided in apartments in kamienice from 50's (like ours), and since the construction of the metro, new apartment blocks near Metro Młociny.

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

Yes. That's where I live now, in Żoliborz Oficerskie. It's a lovely area but property is very much at a premium here

I live in Bielany, not so far from you, and I think it is also a good bet. Very green, all shops nearby and I think easier to park your car (unless in daytime when half of Białołęka treats it as P+R. And by metro you are in 15 minutes in the city centre.

Houses are very hard to buy here, very few on the market and they fetch unbelievable prices.

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

He did it, admitted it and will be punished.

He will not be punished. He will get off lightly, as opposite to ordinary Polish people in this situation who would (rightly so) severely be punished.

What is 8 months of "community service" in his case? And the prosecutor after barely 2 days telling this should suffice?
And lying his fate in the hands of the pope....
The hypocrisy of the Polish church is breathtaking.

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

To be honest, since I am living in Warsaw I am running away from everything smelling expat. I think it is a very artificial environment. Have been once to WTF, found it hugely over exaggerated. One of these places "you have to find great". We honestly prefer our local pizzeria here in Bielany. Not fashionable, not trendy, but good solid food. And hey, sure it is mixed Polish/Italian..but it is neighbourhood.

Our social circle is almost uniquely Polish and I feel good with that since the beginning. An expat circle cannot give you the feel of the country, especially when in my case I plan to stay here.

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

It seems the good bishop gets away with some "community service". Already decided after two days. Normal sentence would be two years of jail.

Bob Polonius, where is you opinion on this one?
Do you think this bishop will participate in the ONR 11-11 march? He has the mentality for it.

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

Not always, of course. Why do you think so?

It was a presumption from my part :)

In Belgium, there is a kind of "social convention" you do not drink alcohol before 12:00. I do not know why this is exactly.
