Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

It is in a green can, yes. The bottle is not too dissimilar.

I had 3 bottles tonight, enough for me.

6% is the 'lite' version. I guess it's readily available tho other PF members may prove me wrong.

Lech Premium never really took off here. Maybe it wasn't marketed well enough.

UKpolska, on topic, have u ever heard of Goolman? Nobody here has heard of it but I really like it. It is brewed in Lublin apparently.

Proofreading, ouch!! I've done my fair share of that. Gliwice is a Uni city, like Lublin, so chances pop up from time to time. I can understand how the Poles think when they write so I know what they wanted to say. This makes it easier. I couldn't be an all-out translator but I do it casually.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

Teaching can be laborious, it just depends on the mood. I have been teaching for 6 years now so I'm not far behind u. Any method can be the same. NOVA in Japan got tedious fast but teaching was secondary. Being in Japan was the buzz.

Here, it's my GF who is keeping the motivation levels high. I'm still teaching fine but without the passion that I once had.

I've known some real characters that taught it well and didn't get bored after a year. It's a good entry school and is very direct. It will boost ur confidence in front of people.

I enjoyed my return to traditional teaching through Profi. On to Empik next, a new challenge. Britam will be fun.

Thanks ukpolska, I'd forgotten about that one. I don't like the mocny version. The standard one is quite enough.

It spelt like a brewery? Hmm..r u back on it again? :)

If u like strong Zgubi, u should try Okocim Mocne. Never b4 have I tasted such a drinkable strong beer.

I had a couple of students who paid handsomely so u can afford to lower the rates for some.

Callan is boring, 2 years was hard. Getting to the final hurdle was tricky, a hard 3rd year, but it's a good method for certain students.

Hevelius, could that be like Fosters? The Australians hate Fosters and export it en masse but I think it's alright.

Victoria Bitter (VB) is a top class Aussie beer. They excel in microbrews.

U don't need CELTA for Callan although they prefer it. U could do a year at Callan, and do a CELTA course over the summer, maybe in Wrocław.

26 hours should be guaranteed lowfunk. 25PLN for privates, not good. Having said that, I have charged that to poorer students. I don't believe in pricing people out of 'education'

Gliwice doesn't really have one. Zywiec is near here, as is Tychy (Tyskie). Wrocław used to have EB but it disappeared. The Zywiec in Zywiec is heavenly. I prefer Tyskie but it's a close call.

Stage 1 was just a pounding session. U can't let up or u lose their attention. The trainees watched me one lesson and they told me after that they were wondering when I was gonna take the foot off the pedal. 3 years was more than enough. I've now finished with Profi and will move to Britam FT and Empik PT.

Knowing the books by heart was good as u could wander round the room, keeping the ss on their toes.

Sorry, this is not about Polish beer but we've had 13 pages already.

Asian beer? Of the Japanese beers, I liked Sapporo. It rolled back just nicely. Asahi Super Dry, whilst modelled on German beer (which I like), didn't cut it. It just wasn't refreshing. Suntory, yeah, very good but the whisky was the real revelation. Kirin was up there with Sapporo, especially ichiban. The name does tell u why. Kirin is giraffe in Japanese, useless trivia. I can't knock Japanese beer.

There was a restaurant in Hiroshima called Asian Kitchen which had most of the standard Asian beers. Chang and Singha were very tasty, although better in Thailand. Tiger from Singapore was one of my preferred beers but the one that I was really taken by was Kingfisher.

Zgubi, if u like crisp, u'll love that one. Amber nectar!! I can buy it in Makro or in some other retail outlets. Kingfisher is Indian btw.

It's not sth 2 b proud of as I got regular rate of pay whilst they cream it all. A repeat of Uni, the Profi's and lecturers stole my ideas. Sods!!

I've never been to Lublin, is it a happening city?

I've never taught Avalon but I think, ironically enough, that I wrote some of the material for it. I know it is being used here in Gliwice as I am still in touch with the teachers there.

Adaptation is key to injecting new life into it. I stuck to the book, both for the purposes of familiarity and for observations, but I came into my own with it after a while and would be damned if anybody stepped on my toes.

I trained new teachers in the method as, by that stage, I knew it like the back of my hand.

What school did u teach at may I ask?

It really depends. U can expect to earn around 55k per year if u play ur cards right but, as I said, it depends.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

How comfortable r u with ur sexuality legion? For example, could u say that a guy is handsome without batting an eyelid? For me, anytime. For example, FISZ is a handsome guy, with striking Native American features and a calm demeanour. It is all tied in with genetics. I couldn't bring myself to think about him or Brad Pitt sexually as it just isn't in my genes. I've known people who can't even say a dude is handsome without being accused of being gay. That's when it gets lame. My good friend from Uni, however, would have no problem doing so.
