News / Crash of Tu-154 at Smolensk-North--could it have been a bomb in the Polish plane? [233]

Well, Olga, ppl are getting a bit tired of hearing you constantly spouting conspiracy theories. Just count yourself lucky that at least you made it to the #1 spot in the conspiracy theorists' top 10 :)

No matter how tragic it was, it was just another accident, as they happen all the time. No more, no less. Wonder if you write so much when an average passenger plane full of African ppl would crash.

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

hedging?

Well, there we have one of the causes of the current crisis :)

In the UK, the captains of industry are quite happy with the pound....

imsfx.co.uk/daily_report/march-2010/buying-euros-09-03-2010.htm

How are things going in Slovakia since they adopted the Euro?

That's only a little over a year ago. How was PL doing one year after the revolution?

While for an individual conversion fees may not be that high, they can add up pretty quickly if you do a lot of trade abroad and since Britain has to do a lot of trade abroad, money is being lost on quite a big scale: 3 per cent per transaction. May not seem much, but 3 per cent of, say, a million is 30.000. A lot of money, I would say if you regularly perform transactions of that magnitude abroad.

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

When the Euro replaced the Guilder in NL, all prices and pays, except for the hospitality (hotels, pubs, restaurants and the like) branch and grocery branch were correctly exchanged. A Euro was 2,2 Guilder, so 220 Guilders became 100 Euro. In the before mentioned branches 1 Guilder became 1 Euro, with only a handful exceptions. Let's not blame the Euro for this, but the greedy shopkeepers, pubkeepers and the like. They took shamelessly advantage of the coming of the Euro to make a bigger buck. So far for increasing prices.

Trouble was that the government and the bosses and so on, exchanged it fairly. So the effect was that you kept earning the same, while prices went up. This is -again- not the fault of the Euro, but from ppl who took advantage of the situation. Nowadays it's pretty levelled again as those greedy bastards realised that they couldn't keep up with this scam and lowered the prices.

Big benefit of the Euro is international travel and trade. I personally think it's great that I don't have to count back, don't have to go to an exchange and ALWAYS losing money in the process of having my dough exchanged for some other currency.

I think in the long run it would be very good for PL if they would adopt the Euro. It will increase their position in the market and has loads of other benefits for country and ppl.

It's nonsense to state that the Euro will cause bancrupcies. The small ppl who go bancrupt with the coming of the Euro would've either go bancrupt anyway OR they are living of loads of illigal black money, which the coming of the Euor will render useless.

What I find funny that on this thread there are Americans present that advise against the Euro, saying that the small ppl will lose out on the Euro. What the heck? Americans don't know about the workings of this system, heck, they barely know how their own system works, so it would be appreciated if they didn't participate, or if they do, bring in some constructive ideas, comments, or sth and not negativism, scaring ppl to bits.

As far as the UK is concerned. They are being put under considerable pressure to adopt the Euro as well. Not only from the EU, but also by captains of industry as well, who see millions and millions of dollars/pounds/euros go down the drain due to the exhorbitant exchange rates.

The minuscule benefits to business don't outweigh the lack of monetary control for the state. The countries that haven't adopted the euro haven't seen any drop in trade.

monetary control of the state? Let me tell you: millions and millions are getting lost every week/month due to exchange rates. The countries who haven't adopted the Euro are doing less than the ones that did. I wouldn't want to take Greece as an example, they fcuk up everything anyway, Euro or no Euro. And why is there so much pressure from within in those non-Euro countries to adopt it?

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Actually, this call centre will deal with the Central/Eastern European market.

And Havok, developers are overpaid anyway. They always have been. They get paid ridiculous amounts for adding a freaking combobox to an application, sth any average beginner in any programming language could do.

In the mid-90's I was invited over to the US to help build a call centre in Fargo, ND. I was offered about a 100K (per annum) for a split-build. The other guy, who was supposed to be running things after it was built, got 150K. But that was back in the days that IT ran high and higher and trees rose into the skies. Nowadays, I am happy with what they're offering me money wise, as the secondary bens are much more important to me, due to personal reasons.

This is a great move for your company Mr MGea

They were already in Warswaw, but they felt the need to expand - I'm not questioning the motives of my company, but after the echec of moving the English speaking market to India (first contacts for that market are still based in Mumbai for that matter), it has increasingly paid off to have ppl speaking to fellow natives on the phone. BTW: I've always told them it's not a good idea to move the English market to India, and I turned out to be right.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

Sanhedrin 54b . A Jew may have sex with a child as long as the child is less than nine years old.

This is what it's actually says:

Our Rabbis taught: In the case of a male child, a young one is not regarded as on a par with an old one; but a young beast is

I don't read anywhere that he is allowed to have sex with a 9 year old?

come-and-hear.com/sanhedrin/sanhedrin_54.html#PARTb

Neither do I read that in following:

A maiden aged three years and a day may be acquired in marriage by coition, and if her deceased husband's brother cohabits with her, she becomes his. The penalty of adultery may be incurred through her; [if a niddah] she defiles him who has connection with her, so that he in turn defiles that upon which he lies, as a garment which has lain upon [a person afflicted with gonorrhoea].5 If she married a priest, she may eat of terumah;6 If any unfit person7 has a connection with her, he disqualifies her from the priesthood8 - If any of the forbidden degrees had intercourse with her, they are executed on her account,9 but she is exempt.

And in 76A I cannot find anything else than that Incest is punishable by stoning or fire.

Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 58 (Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234)

Here's the full text. Looks immediately a bit different than how you put it:

Narrated Aisha:

The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house.

By the way: Tutankhamon married when he was 12 with his niece of 12 years old. The Talmud was written about 2700 years ago - ppl lived to be 30 years max at the time, it was completely normal to marry around 12 years or even a little younger.

All the quotes you selectively put here are still no explanation as to why you need to defend Catholic priests that nowadays with all the laws against it, still performing sexual acts with under aged. Nowadays, ppl tend to get older, therefore the age of consent has gone up as well. Priests should know that.

Circumsizing is not sexual abuse, by the way. If it's performed under hygenic circumstances there is nothing against it as it is even more hygienic than when you would leave your foreskin there. And besides, one article doesn't make summer, especially not when you compare it to the tsunami of Catholic cases that come to surface now. And the fact that you try to defend acts like that makes you look not that good.

Here's a nice one as well: israelect/Come-and-Hear/editor/ca-trimm/index.html

Take especially a look at the first reaction-email.

So I guess, I still will be eating cookies and you will still be eating crow... As always, happy to rebuke you again :)
Especially since you tend to be a bit arrogant, makes it more fun :)

Oh, and my Grandparent were both 26 when they married. The other two were 28 and 25, so they followed proceedings and morales very correctly.

I don't believe these Talmudic writings are mainstream Jewish teachings.

Not only that, but it doesn't even say what he wants it to say as well.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

I find it amusing to see how whenever the CC is somehow discredited by her behaviour, the good Catholics always drag other religions into it. They are also remarkably silent when sth bad happens within the CC and manage to blame the other religions for pointing these bad things out or even condoning the matter, because it's the CC.

The other way round, when sth bad occurs with other religions the good Catholics don't do that. Instead they scream "see how bad they are! We don't have that in Catholic religion!". Catholics in that case go to extreme lengths to show that this is "proof" of the badness of other religions. Quite amusing and predictable.

Richasis, I would like you to show us with which phrase the Talmud explicitly condones paedophilia and how you explain the fact that it hardly occurs within the Islam.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

My understanding is that you are being offered a job in Poland by some company.

Of course the company pays for the move and for acommodation the first few weeks. They've done that when I came to Ireland, they will do that if I would move for them to PL. The usual company policy is that you get a basic health insurance, but I need the full package, due to certain circumstances. Those questions were out of curiosity as here in Ireland, even though you have the full package, you still have to pay the doctor when you go see him or her. Those questions were intended to give me a global overview that would help me make a decision and because I am curious as well.

It is best not to discuss this with your dog

Why do I have to think now of the talking dog in Road Trip?

Ehm, guys, sorry to disappoint you, but I am not gay :) It's just Sokidoki's way of telling ppl that he likes them.

Westminster, no offence taken. The financial side is not final yet, but I got this as indication of salary. Besides, I'm not one to act secretly about income an all. Olive branch accepted :)

Indeed, good points you guys have there: Germany is close, and that brings along the next question: since it's close to Germany, one can expect a certain level of knowledge of the inhabitants where the German language is concerned? It also used to be German as well, so I am kinda amazed that German is not spoken in Szczecin (how you pronounce that? Sjtjetzin or sth?)

How about insurances in PL? Are they well organized, I mean, if I have some form of health insurance, can I just go to the doctor or do I have to pay the doctor first and then retrieve it back from the insurance?

Thanks again guys!

Its supposed to be a nice city.

It's close to the sea as well - I like that.

I cannot believe a person like you gets in such a heaven.Life is so unfair.

You think this has fallen just out of the blue sky? I've been working for decades to come to the stage that I actually get offers like this. And like I said, I am not sure if I will take it.

I think there is a guy in Lodz on here that builds up call centers and can probably tell you if the salary is decent.

Guess I will wait for him to come around.

Indeed a good idea, I have some days left anyway. But it has to wait until the planes start flying again...And right now that doesn't look too good as they have found glass in some engines of militairy planes, due to the ash of the angry volcano.

5460-5850 PLN is enough to live a very comfortable life but it really depends on how you use money. I know people who come out with nothing after 8000 per month but that can be said for any country.

Well, I'm at an age in which you don't hang out in nightclubs every freaking weekend anymore :) Besides, I'm pretty good with money, so I don't think that will be a problem.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Well, the team is gonna be fluent in English anyway as it's an American international company and English will be the business language. Also, since it's gonna be a dependance of the Warsaw centre, there's gonna be boys and girls from all over (Eastern-) Europe, so English would be necessary anyway. The majority of the hires would be Polish though and I am sure they will help me find my way around as long as I don't speak Polish decently. But I haven't received the operational blueprint yet, but it would mean employment for at least 125 locals.

So I could live comfortably off this salary. Good.

How are the insurances arranged in PL?

Thanks for the info, btw.

I thought that you were part of the music industry, not the call centre scene.

Music is my hobby, I make a living building call centres. And actually I already work for this company, so there is no prob there.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Well, life is strange, sometimes: I didn't apply, but some head hunters got wind of the fact that I am about to switch jobs. Anyway, I actually got a job offered in Poland! Yes! Never thought I'd see the day this would happen :) It's supposed to be in Szczecin and is meant to be building yet again a new call centre for a well known American company. Targeted income would be about 2100-2300 Euros (don't know how much that is in Zlotys, they only mentioned it in Euros) ex bonus and bens. I have a feeling though that I would go backwards salary wise, but I haven't decided yet. But just out of curiosity, I had a few questions:

- how much would I get to keep of this after tax? My contact says it would be somewhere around 1400-1500 Euros; is that correct?
- with what salary level in Western Europe would this be comparable?
- would this be enough to make a decent living in a city like Szczecin?
- how about insurances, like life insurance, health insurance and so on (these are very important to me!)
- how about communications? Will I be able to manage with my English, German and handful of Polish words, or do I need a full blown Polish course in order to merely survive?

I'm sure I have much more questions once the decision has been made whether I take this job or not, but for now, these are the basic questions that will help me form a decision (besides the obvious questions of do I want to live there and so on)

Any answers on these questions are appreciated. Thanks guys!

Edit: the mentioned salary is per month of course - before some jokers get the wrong idea ;)

Genealogy / Are Poles aware of Thracian aspect in original roots of Polish ethos? [69]

simple, that Poles were/are Thracians who migrated to the north, along the Danube River

Ah, then you should've stated if the Poles were aware of their Thracian Roots. Ethos is sth different, you know.

It's not certain that this is the case though. Romanians, yes, they descent from the Thracians, but I don't think Thracians, even though they moved around a lot, did go as far North as Poland. In fact, it states nowhere that they came north of the Balkans. Furthermore, you Serbs yourself don't even descent from the Thracians, but from the Illyrians. And the Poles are even further up North. So I don't think there are any Thracian roots in the Poles.

Romanians consider themselves as non-Slavic, so it doesn't make sense to say that Thracians were one of the forefathers of the Poles.

So what you're asking is: if Polish ppl know that there is a certain Thracian aspect in their original way of looking at things/their original mentality?

What the heck do you mean with that?

Like Greece... and Iceland... and Spain... and Portugal?

Greece owes it's current state mainly to her own politicians, not to the EU. In fact, if it weren't for the EU, they would be bancrupt a long time ago.

Iceland is not a member yet.

Spain - has benefitted big time off the EU. Aznar, anyone?

Portugal has only gained and brought nothing into the EU.

I don't think anyone would have a problem if those countries were to give the money back and leave the EU.

Indeed, it would save the rest a lot of trouble and money if they would. Only trouble is that if they actually had to give everything back what they received from the EU, all of them would be bancrupt immediately.
