USA, Canada / If America is so bad, why move here? [254]

So SLD don't broadly resemble the Democrats in America? I'm not issuing my opinion here, just asking what you think, delph.

Nah, no way - perhaps Napieralski wanted it such, but the current version - definitely not.

Kwasniewski's vision might also be broadly similar to the Democrats, though.

I would still like to know your interpretation of Democrat as applied to the Polish political system.

Can you apply it at all?

I reckon they're closest to Platforma, though.

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

How's the job market for researchers,Teachers and for Logistics and supply chain management.

There is no job market without the Polish language. No-one is going to hire you.

Are you suggesting some form of malpractice or illegal activity on his part?

"refusing to work with pain-in-the-ass-visa-seekers" would cover it, I think.

USA, Canada / Where do most Polish-Americans identify on the political spectrum? [142]

It would do you good to read the writing of someone who uses logic.

More personal attacks.

Mods?

This is an improperly punctuated question, but I do so wonder how often "we" have seen Polish-Americans do this on the forum. You should provide some examples, because I can't think of any.

With pleasure.
Your Polish friends - why do you regard them as such?

Perhaps another relevant question should be : "Is there a correlation between the sexual fantasies of Polish-Americans with their voting preferences in Polish elections?". I recall PolskiMoc was another one who bragged about "banging chicks" and was about as PiS voting as it got.

Delph, politics operates on many levels. Please define what Democrat means in your conception. Thanks! I feel that the demarcation has been diluted since the days of Reagan. That's one reason why I ask.

Democrat is someone who votes for the Democrats, nothing more. I think you're right, too - Clinton blurred the lines, certainly.

USA, Canada / Where do most Polish-Americans identify on the political spectrum? [142]

I think it might depend on their age, actually - the young ones, certainly. The older ones seem to be pro-Kaczynski and yet pro-Democrat, which is wonderfully oxymoronic.

A better correlation might be between the amount of false Polish words ("Golumpkies", "Pierogies", etc) and the amount of Tea Party membership.

But seriously what did the US have in 1944 that could have won a true World War?

Nothing. They even used much of the German rocket technology after WW2. And it's no surprise that there was never intensive denazification - they got too much from Nazi scientists!

If you are so interested in their "degrees" of Polishness then I suggest you research their genealogies, but this sort of interest smacks of a creepy obsession with ethnic "purity".

Polish-Americans are certainly obsessed with ethnic purity, as witnessed by their attempts to push their Polishness as some sort of superiority. How often do we see them on here, boasting about how big the brains are and how much luck they have with women, and so on. In fact, haven't you used it yourself in that way? I'm sure I remember posts from you about how the Polonia are superior to everyone else based on their genetics.

Sadly, those of us living in Europe know that racial purity is but a myth. It's especially funny to watch Americans (a melting pot if there ever was one) try and claim superiority based on the existence of some woman who used words like "Busia".

That question sounds like it was written by an insane person.

Mods? Is it really appropriate to have all these insults towards mentally ill people on here?

So - let's assume he was there as an 18 year old, plus 67 years - that makes him 85 at least.

USA, Canada / Where do most Polish-Americans identify on the political spectrum? [142]

Can't you read? The OP clarified the question in the 5th post of this thread. It refers only to American politics.

Mods?

Yes they are true Polish-Americans and their Polishness is a fact that you cannot do anything to change, but please keep trying because your futile antics amuse us. Hahahahahaha!

Mods?(incidentally, there's no such thing as a true Polish-American - both ethnicities, are by design, an utter mixed breed)

So perhaps you would care to compare their degree of Polishness to their political leanings? Are the ones who talk about pierogis and Busia more likely (or less likely) to be from a particular part of the political spectrum than those who have actually been to Poland and than those who have done things to help Poland?

I think it's safe to say that the more 'pierogies' consumed and the more 'world's greatest busia' t-shirts worn, the more likely they are to be PiS voting. And we wall know what real Poles think about such people.

I do somewhat fail to see how that falls under the description of 'civil discourse'.

Perhaps the mods would like to rule on that one.

One does wonder if they will ever both to do something about it, or even reply. Their silence suggests that they are willing to let a certain Polish-American poster poison the discussion here to the point of toxicity.

In all fairness, they don't appear to have been active today, so perhaps they haven't seen it yet. I'm sure they'll deal with the vile abuse in due course.

(aha - just spotted a post moved to the bin, so they'll see this)

Really Poland is in the USA's "pocket"?

Mods?

Mods, would you like us to reply in kind to this type of post?

No, we shouldn't. The moral high ground is the traditional British domain, and so it shall stay!

I should have written "unfortunately for Polish-Americans", shouldn't I?

It is very interesting to look at why Polish-Americans vote for PiS however - it's obvious that it's based on some sentimental rubbish and not based on the reality on the ground.

Is anything going to be done about this constant flaming or are other people free to reply in kind?

We don't lower ourselves to his level, remember? We certainly shouldn't reply to it, apart from to ask the mods about it.

Alternatively, America could have quite easily sued for peace in light of an onslaught from all directions.

One could ask, if American is so wonderful, why has nobody even attempted to invade it for such a long time?

Would you want the hassle of occupying it?

All these Americans, fighting each other in order to prove who is ethnically "best". Screw that, they can keep it.

Life / Does Polish society accept new people especially those not from Poland [41]

Yes but English has been compulsory in Polish schools for quite some time now.

English isn't obligatory. A foreign language is obligatory from the 4th class, and a 2nd foreign language from the 7th class. Apart from that, there's no restriction on what language, provided it's available as a Matura subject.

I know plenty of people who did language pairs such as French/German for instance.

I understand that the quality of teaching of Russian in small towns/villages is far better than the quality of teaching of English.

Without a shadow of a doubt. English was (to the best of my knowledge) usually only taught in the best schools in the PRL-era, and there are still plenty of Russian teachers around.

I'd love to know when the Romans invaded the United Kingdom. Or when the Danes invaded, for that matter.

Your dad probably emigrated from Russian empire.

Or possibly the Austrian.

I wonder how many Polish-Americans actually have Polish roots, given the utter lack of self identification by many minorities at the time of mass emigration?

For the Polonia posters here, who would you have voted for in the last election and why? Also, what is your take on parties such as PJN? Thanks!

I'd be willing to bet that none of them even know what PJN means.

There are at least 10 million Polish-Americans and less than 30,000 of them vote in Polish elections.

30,000 too many.

Seanus, please read the thread before asking dumb questions.

thats one crap part of Poland, real depressing up there.

Sandomierz Rynek

River

Doesn't look so bad to me...

Zamosc is held in pretty high regard by many Poles, but it's also relatively inaccessible.

No Polish people from Poland. Almost all the people I know who came here and recently say they'll never go back all Poland had to offer was low paying jobs.

If that was really all Poland has to offer, how can you explain the huge cars in my guarded car park, or the huge houses being built? How do you explain the people eating in expensive restaurants, or drinking in Browaria in Poznan (that's always packed full?).

It would be more accurate to say "all Poland had to offer them".

Prague is much closer to the "West" than Krakow - but it also had the advantage of being full of cheap/easy women after "die wende", unlike Krakow. That firmly established it on the tourist map.

Who cares? Like I said, you can't change it. We're Polish regardless.

Papers don't prove anything, as is often said in Poland.

Nice to see that you couldn't care less about the parliament of the country of which you claim to belong to. And yet you wonder why Poles snub you?

USA, Canada / Where do most Polish-Americans identify on the political spectrum? [142]

Taking the example of one restauranteur's mispelled sign and then attributing mispelling to Polish-Americans in general is an example of the stupid inductive thinking that provides yet another reason for Polish-Americans, and others on this forum, to laugh at the illogic this forum's bitter element will use to defame American Polonia. Sour-pusses why can't you reason?

Mods?

And fortunately their votes are only counted in the Warsaw region, where the overwhelming majority of voters wouldn't touch PiS. Essentially the PolAm vote doesn't count for anything.

Even more reason to strip them of the vote - their vote is meaningless anyway.

I wonder if the average North American Polonia could name all the parties represented in the Sejm? Heck, could any of them even name the leader of Ruch Palikota?

I once asked him if he would want to return to Poland.. His answer was. No never.

Which is why Polish-Americans will never be Polish.

Sitting in the Rynek in Zamosc sipping superb local beer that costs buttons.

I thought exactly the same thing about Przemysl - most people just treat it as a stop on the way West/East - but the Rynek is definitely interesting. Likewise with the castle - in fact, the whole place has a certain charm about it. When I was there, it was over 20c in the evening, the Rynek was full of life - impossible not to like the place.

I really wonder what Poland Fuzzy was living in, to be honest.

Heck - you can add that rooftop garden in Warsaw to the list.

Law / Sending Western Union cash to friends in Poland - questions [25]

and yes, you can also deposit in euros (and also in USD, GBP etc provided your account is in the same currency..)

Bah.

I never thought to even ask, and here was me withdrawing cash and converting to PLN when it could just have been taken out in EUR for trips to Germany. Bah indeed.
