Language / Kurwa? at end of every sentence [51]

I just watched Dzień Świra, and it seems to me that kurwa is very much like f... here. You shouldn't use it too much, especially at work, around old people or kids, but with people you are mad at, or comfortable with, you can let it fly.

That is fine with me. Language is constantly evolving, and I find both of those words genuinely funny.

News / Poland's 'oburzeni' (indignant)? [41]

I think there are some definite misses with the marketing of these protests.

Over here, the 99%ters are protesting for better distribution of wealth. They use terms like "cowtowing to the wealthy".
Imagine that. I don't think they even know they're talking about Revolution!

Me, I don't like to be grouped with any 99%. Not at all. ;)

Real Estate / Who designs houses in Poland? [66]

Incidently, I've been shopping around for an architect in the central Florida area. Any Polish-born architects around here?

Travel / Tips/suggestions/do's and don't of going to Poland....? [55]

Don`t expect here any reasonable answers , this place is designed as a trolling place

let's not make more out of this then what it is, now.
Instead of doing a little googling, and a little reading, the OP wants us to lay it all out for him
... so we're having some fun here.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Donald Tusk in his first day in government promised a laptop for every school kid in Poland

more like access to computer and internet for each kid in 'gimnazjum', no?

UK, Ireland / The British law on someone cutting down a piece of your garden [13]

thing called "ancient light" where they have the right to protect their light ie cut down the obstruction.

I don't see anything about trees there, just building and fences blocking somebody's window. As far as I know, the only branches you can cut are the ones extending over your property line.

Food / POLISH RECIPES! [287]

I think polish coleslaw has more sugar, and more vinegar. Sometimes grated apple. Everybody has their own recipe, tho.
Szczaw, or soup from it, like in the jar in the picture, it's hard to believe somebody would package! I've heard that during the occupation, when you had nothing left to eat, you'd make a soup from it, which was a common weed in the yard. And I don't think that acid is good for you.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

LOL That reminds me: The Soup Man in Manhattan, which was an inspiration for Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld (and which grew into international chain) established a set of "rules" for ordering his soup:

1. Pick the soup you want.
2. Have your money ready.
3. Move to the extreme left after ordering.
4. Another added rule, created after the Seinfeld episode, states not to mention "The N Word [for Nazi].
I have a very good pizzeria in my town, the guy routinely picks the ladies down the line and serves them, ignoring all the guys, waiting for them to say something. :)

And I buy the fish from a wholesaler that sits behind a big desk and gets pissed off if you speak first.
If there is something we want, we don't mind taking some abuse, or we like colorful characters.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

another problem is that most traditional Polish food people would expect, like pierogi or golabki are very labor intensive (as compared to slapping something on a grill, for example).

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

Some years ago I ordered frozen (but home made) pierogi from some supposedly famous place somewhere in New England, I don't remember. Couple dozen about $50, styrofoam cooler shipping another $10 or $15. That was ridiculous, but I just had to try them. They were very good. I've learned how to make my own since. ;)

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

This weekend I had to bring food to girlfriends' pool night. So I made golabki. Fell asleep and greatly oversimmered them. The looked like turds wrapped in cabbage. I brought them anyway, and made sure everyone knew what I thought they looked like. They ate them all anyway. ;)

Food / "Modern" Polish cooking (funny video clip) [21]

How much salt was on there?

LOL by the time they finished pouring all that oil, hot sauce and beer on it, salt was surely washed away.

Wroclaw B, are induction cooktops at all popular over there?

Genealogy / How common is it for other people of Polish origin to discover they are actually Jewish? [127]

I watched "Defamation".. whew.. it took two days, I did not want to immerse myself ;) It was pretty good. I usually I don't give either side of the issue that much time.

Anyway, maybe I missed some pieces, but they didn't run into anyone from my father's generation who hate Jews and think they are responsible for all the evil in the world? Curious..
