News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

not afraid to use Immigration as their trump card in order to win the votes

The biggest joke is that it was the U.K. which was the greatest advocate of EU enlargement to the east, and that it was the Tony Blair who decided to lift border controls for Central/Eastern European immigrants. Now they have the audacity to complain about immigration and foreigners taking away British jobs. Clowns.

UK wants access to the Single Market. It is clear that the EU holds all the cards

Although it looks as if the UK is trying the old "Divide and Conquer" stunt again. The tabloids rave about the Danes, the Dutch, the Swedish and the French supposedly wanting out of the EU. They hope that Britain will wait with the exit until other countries in the EU follow their lead. Seems the leading political class in Britain is out to destroy Europe (again) with their backward British Empire mentality.

UK, Ireland / Xenophobic Backlash Against Polish School in London [23]

Guys, read the comments at the bottom of this Daily Fail article and you will understand how many of the Brexiters tick...

"Britain must hold a second referendum, says Poland as leader of country's ruling party warns EU must 'radically change'"

UK, Ireland / Why are Poles in the UK complaining of racism when you are racist? [73]

What difference does it make that I'm a Pole? I live in the UK so I care about this country too.

Fair enough. Why is it then that expats in Poland are vehemently opposed by a certain group of people here on PF when they say exactly the same about your country?

it would be big time opportunity to create great union.Poland will have a chance to forge EE kinda union.

And how would such a union finance itself? Loans like Greece? The situation would be different if we would talk about highly industrialized first-world countries, but this is not the case here.

It will be war in the future anyway - only business keeps Europe together.

Don't know about war (hopefully not), but you've got the part about business right. From the distance, Europe has always looked like a bunch of jealous kindergarteners who hate each other's guts.

And they wont be satisfied until they get the outcome they want

Don't forget, the referendum is non-binding. Parliament has the final say, and the pro-EU MPs might be using their Commons majority to keep Britain inside the EU.

I can see Sweden leaving with a Swexit as well

Oh, I can see Germany leaving next year, too. The breaking-apart of the EU would be a disaster for the countries in the south and east of the continent, though.

I don't see what holding a second referendum would accomplish.

Already more than two million signatures under a petition to hold another referendum on the issue...

It will harm Britain more than any other country. Proof they are experiencing internal crisis.

Who knows what will happen. This referendum is non-binding and might be overturned by a second one. Even Farange said that he wouldn't accept a 52:48 vote for Remain.

"Nigel Farage warns today he would fight for a second referendum on Britain in Europe if the remain campaign won by a narrow margin next month. ... In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way."

I have now heard that Germany is so 'fed up' with Britain, it wants to speed up the process.

Not only Germany, but the EU in general. They will not give the U.K. a special treatment with free access to the European market. It will cost the Brits big time.

theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/24/europe-plunged-crisis-britain-votes-leave-eu-european-union

"The EU's top leaders have said they expect the UK to act on its momentous vote to leave the union "as soon as possible, however painful that process may be" and that there will be "no renegotiation".

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

Wow, who would have thought! Interesting times ahead, it seems. Wonder if Poland will receive the same amount of EU subsidies once the Brits have left (if they decide to do so). The Germans can't shoulder everything, that's for sure. Looks like we are seeing the beginning of the end of the EU.

And maybe the end of the UK as well. Scotland is already considering to demand a second referendum for independence, according to the Guardian.

Genealogy / Heudorf Polenlager - my birth place in Germany; Polish parents [3]

Have you had a look at the naturalization records of your parents yet? Your paternal grandfather should be listed there as well as his wife.

Regarding the labor camp, here's a German web site that might help you:

where then would Britain turn as she has in the past?

The pro Brexit crowd is talking about reviving the Commonwealth, but honestly - do Canada, Australia, India or New Zealand really need the Brits? How much business can you do with a bunch of poor African nations?

One critical member

I'm sure that if you ask the folks on the continent, they would disagree with you. The Brits have never been "real" Europeans; their ruling class is still dreaming of the good old days of the mighty Empire.

the Brexit would be a disaster, for Britain at any rate

Maybe not for the UK as a whole, but certainly for the City which would lose most of its business to Frankfurt.

If the Brexit occurs, what will become of the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the United Nations European headquarters in Geneva, or NATO?

Nothing would happen. Same EU - just one member down.

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

The Brexit campaign is largely based around xenophobia i.e. leaving the EU would supposedly allow the UK to control it's own borders which would mean less migrants coming to the UK.

That is true for the folks that read Daily Fail and/ or vote for UKIP. Most people voting for a Brexit are most likely uncomfortable with the loss of sovereignty to Brussels.

Do you know the port of entry? Ellis Island or somewhere else? Either way, try this:

If you know the year of your ancestor's naturalization, you might be able to find the record through one of these web sites:

The naturalization record contains all the information you need.

Hopfully majority of Poles will come back to Poland after Brexit

i pray that Poles come back to Poland

All of them? I take it then that Poland has at least 500,000 to 800,000 open jobs that pay decent wages, plus enough vacant and affordable flats to house 1 million+ additional people (or do they all move back in with their parents?), plus a sufficient number of kindergarten spots, plus big enough schools, plus enough money in the coffers to pay dole money and pensions, plus ...
