Love / "Marian" complex of Polish women [16]

They are stupid, shallow cows, gold diggers who only hunt rich foreigners to rip them off.

Actually...there's plenty of those types around at the minute ;)

It's quite amusing to see how many of them have suddenly appeared in the centre of the city, dressed to impress so to speak.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

this is my personal favourite. The self appointed leader.

Haven't you figured out yet that Fuzzy had a hard life in Poland and is desperately trying to prove to himself that it's the country that failed him, not himself?

Heck, the poor man didn't even know about the existence of drive through restaurants, which tells you about how much he actually got around.

All his comments about "goracy kubek" seem to be personal experience, too.

Law / PESEL urgently need - Current order of applications? [10]

Also we were told that we would have to go back to 1) and cancel the first piece of confirmation and then go back with our landlady the next day and do the same thing again.

Correct. It can be done on the same day, however. Usually the de-registration and re-registration is done at the same time. You then have to go back for the PESEL a couple of weeks later once it's created.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - the next generation [87]

Have a read.

From your link : gov.uk/apply-for-a-uk-residence-card

Under European law, you do not need to obtain documentation confirming your right of residence in the UK if you are a national of a country in the EEA.

Boom!

The only time that the registration certificate comes into play in the UK is when you want a non-EEA family member to join you. You must then formally exercise your "treaty rights" to do so - but this is a formality.

So - for Poles - it simply isn't required at all.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

It could be that the real estate agents are getting very afraid - and thus they're dropping prices now to make more money before the law changes.

(the law will change soon - and the profession will become deregulated)

Life / A loss to Krakow. [20]

Otherwise you wouldn't be surprised by the way those Soviets pretending to be Poles act

Why do you assume that the director is supporting the Government, especially in a heavy PiS city like Krakow?

I would have thought that local government would be wanting to keep this within the city, at least for local tourism.

Could be that they simply aren't interested - is the zoo there owned by the city?

Life / A loss to Krakow. [20]

As far as I'm aware, aren't a lot of staff volunteers from the Uni? I've been out of the country for a we while. No doubt find out everything when I get back.

No idea. The aquarium is definitely closing by the way (just checked with someone who knows this sort of thing) - so the story might be true enough.

Is it the same guy who owns several hostels too? I think I know who he is...

That's probably entirely due to the PAN paying diabolically low salaries, even by Polish standards.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Yes that is ridiculous but it is also very common.

Very very common, I'd say. There is a very weird habit of being afraid to take less money - I've seen it in other areas, too.

I reckon the problem will get worse as Babcia dies - more and more young people (without a clue) will suddenly inherit property and will demand ridiculous prices.

One can only hope that the forthcoming reforms coming in real estate agencies will change things dramatically.

News / British senior politician compares Poland to South Africa during apartheid [129]

There is no such a thing as racism in polish football.

Even the players themselves say that they've been victims of racism in the past. Do keep trying.

Redneck - I would include the management at secondary schools in England that strangely didn't want to know about my Polish wife's teaching abilities. That's racism.

Could that be because the Polish teacher training system is somewhat of a joke and it in no way prepares students for the reality of the classroom?

A friend of mine (totally monolingual) obtained the 'right to teach' by attending an EU-funded pedagogical course. 80% attendance was required, no exams and assessment. And the first stage was completed on the basis of made-up paperwork, hastily compiled at the end of the first year. He now has full rights to teach in the EU, despite actually learning nothing.

UK, Ireland / Are british getting ready to expell "Eastern Europeans" ? [16]

Yes, these unemployable peasants have found work in the UK doing work the unemployable English chavs don't want to do

Win-win for everyone, don't you think? ;)

I'm certainly quite happy that much of the unemployed were exported to the UK - less for me to support!

Typical pathetic xenophobic filth.

Been reading much of your own posts, have we?

I know it's rather oldfashioned, but you could just pick up the phone and ask. They do speak English in Poland, you know.

But the problem isn't racial violence, it is simply violence.

I'd agree with this, actually. The amount of football-related violence in general that seems to go unpunished is unbelievable.

It's changing, but until every single act of football-related violence is punished severely, it's not going to go away.

(off topic, slightly, but there was a riot last night in Poznan)

UK, Ireland / Are british getting ready to expell "Eastern Europeans" ? [16]

Maybe they are just getting ready to expell majority of "Eastern Europeans" and are preparing the ground for that ? Obviously, It would be much easier If these people are labeled as disgusting racists. What do you think ? Please comment.

I think you ought to be more appreciative towards a country that took in much of your unemployable village peasants.

I think that your trolling discredits this website. And that your racist filth would greatly harm Poland if anybody anywhere ever read it and didn't immediately dismiss it as a completely worthless cry for attention.

He seems completely obsessed with Britain, don't you think?

I'd say it's a certainty that he's working in a factory, perhaps as the son of a Polish immigrant. It certainly explains all the anger towards the UK - because - you know, his father told him about how great Poland was in his time.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

It's pretty much of a bubble, right?

No. The price increases are also down to other reasons, such as salaries dramatically rising in some areas and the simple emergence of a middle class.

It was funny because in one developer they told me that now, because of the crisis and the lower prices, they build less quality than in their first buildings. Then I asked when were they built, and it was 2005. In that year they were selling around 30% cheaper than now!! Conclusion, they are selling **** and they are selling too expensive...

You've completely failed to take into account that the mortgage lending criteria were considerably toughened at the start of the year.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

uhhhmm....that.....was....the point?

So why didn't you?

The fact that they don't come "as standard" is much to do with the climate not requiring them.

yes....why yes of course. 4 years, was looking in the wrong direction the entire time.

You certainly must have been if you didn't know about the existence of 10zl bug screens and drive through restaurants.

Travel / Will I get instantly laid with my American accent when I speak Polish? [30]

is it annoying to girls or is it a "turn on?"

I'd say that girls will be thoroughly excited by the prospect of meeting an American who can also speak their languages.

Most girls can't speak English very well (they're more into traditional things, like homemaking and cooking in PL) - so your Polish skills will be a great help!

Just make sure they understand that you have options.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

hot is hot. sure.

Then...install an air conditioning unit.

what flats are you referring to? my flat/building in Poland was built (well, completely gutted and refurbed) in 2006, didn't have them. in 4 years living in Poland, I had never seen a single window with bug screens in a flat. ever. just sayin'.

Your flat didn't have them because you'd be expected to buy them yourself. That's quite normal in Poland - people prefer to highly customise their flats themselves rather than letting the developer do it. They're so incredibly cheap and easy to install that a child could do it.

As for not seeing windows with them - where on earth were you hanging out? Tell you what - I'll be in Wroclaw soon - I'll take pictures of bug screens in/around the Rynek for you.

there is no equivalent to Subway in Poland.

I can think of several in Poznan. Perhaps you simply didn't look in the right places?

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - the next generation [87]

They could also have been in the UK longer then 3 months without registering at the local job centre

Totally wrong.

In the UK, while an EEA Residence Certificate exists, there is absolutely no obligation to hold one. In fact, the UK Border Agency makes it clear that such registration is entirely voluntary.

Law / British man Marrying Polish Woman in POLAND [29]

As i am a christian would i need to show any sort of certificate stating that i have been christened?

Yep, usually no more than 6 months old.

The classes are about how to bring up a family..... the churches ideas on marriage..... natural contraception and other joyful topics..

The same priest that married us did the pre-marriage classes, so you can imagine that they were actually quite good fun :D

The stuff on "natural contraception" was a great laugh, it was done in one class by this psycho guy. I gave up listening after he started ranting about Stalin, Lenin and Mickiewicz :/

USA, Canada / Marriage certificate required for Polish passport (I'm a Polish-American) [9]

Does anyone else on the forum have experience with this? Thanks!

If they're asking for it - they're asking for it. It might not be legal, or correct - but it's usually just much easier to give them what they want.

But as Harry wisely says - ask for the legal basis on which they base the request. Everything (if legal) has a basis in law - they cannot ask for something imaginary. However, if they're asking for it (and they will have plenty of experience with such people) - then it suggests that there may indeed be a legal requirement for you to obtain a Polish marriage certificate.

I wonder how you'd obtain such a thing, however...

Indeed, and it's also quite possible that the priest will demand additional (non-compulsory in the eyes of the church, but compulsory in his eyes) paperwork/requirements.

Life / Moving to Poland - what is the most important thing I need to do, once I'm in Poland? [51]

No obligation to exchange an EU licence - and in fact, there is little benefit unless you're a permanent resident. Temporary residents must pay fines "on the spot" - and also get points. Other licence holders must pay on the spot - but no points, unless you're stupid enough to tell them that you have a PESEL.

Genealogy / Being ashamed of Polish ancestry? [156]

URGENT! Biased article in The Economist on Polish-Lithuanian relationships caused a strong attack on the Poles in the local forum of the international community. We need your presence there!

Biased article?

I urge you not to be so utterly precious and instead read it for what it is - an observation that both sides need to start growing up and stop acting like children.
