Law / British man Marrying Polish Woman in POLAND [29]

I am currently a Christian however will be converting to a Catholic as i believe this makes the process alot easier with the churches over there.

The conversion hassle will negate any advantage by converting.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

All i say it that everybody has to have the chance to get onto the property ladder

Everyone has the chance. Poland has universal free education.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

delphiandomine talks a lot of **** about 'working harder'. This is rubbish, you get money by working smarter - which is possible if you are educated.

Work hard, get smart and work smart. Not rocket science, is it?

I know one guy who now works as the sales director for one of the big name water brands. He didn't have the money to go to university, so he worked his ass off on a farm - 12 hour shifts, Monday-Thursday and Friday mornings. He studied at the weekends, working when he didn't have university. The guy is now doing exceptionally well for himself, all because he didn't cry about his living situation (living in a PGR, desperately poor parents) - but just got on with it.

There is no place in the world for the uneducated - except for minimum wage work slaves.

No doubt gdyniaboy and Fuzzywickets will be along in a second to tell us how everyone should be living in huge mansions despite doing an unskilled job.

News / Bieganski, the Brute Polak and Debbie Schlussel (about the Polonia) [19]

So why won't any Polonia associations invite her to speak to their members?

Very strange, don't you think? Could it be that she doesn't take part in their twisted agendas?

Dude,if you knew anything about her and her writings you would know that she doesn't write about Poland. She is commited to dispel sterotypes of Polish people in AMERICA.

Funnily enough, she writes a lot about Poland.

And you won't find there what you are looking for as she is a great Polish patriot.

A great Polish patriot indeed. And yet she is pragmatic enough to see Poland for what it is, not what some racist redneck village-dwelling Americans think it is.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Well for me, and most people in this country 2000 zl is nothing.

Then work harder. Not rocket science.

Not enough for medicine, not enough for education, new clothes.

Do you have good food, good shelter and good clothing, along with education? Yes? Then you're already richer than most of the world.

Poland is extreme poor.
Most people earn 1500-2000 zl

I think it's safe to say that most people in the world would love to have 1500-2000zl in their pocket every month.

News / Bieganski, the Brute Polak and Debbie Schlussel (about the Polonia) [19]

Why don't you provide a link to the blog article if it's so interesting?

Talk about a stupid, embarrassing mistake to make...

bieganski-the-blog.blogspot.com/2012/06/bieganski-brute-polak-and-debbie.html :)

Also, regarding Ms Schlussel, reasoning with her is impossible.

My opinion too. Why waste time with someone who is obviously relishing the abuse that's coming her way - and in a twisted way, almost justifies what she says?

Ignoring her is the best thing anyone can do.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

I think you'll find that any money paid to Poles is a drop in the water compared to the massive amount of bloodsucking British leeches in the system.

For what it's worth, it's well documented that the Poles have actually done a lot to improve urban wastelands.

News / Bieganski, the Brute Polak and Debbie Schlussel (about the Polonia) [19]

I found a very, very interesting blog post by someone who appears to know his stuff. Well worth a read - here are some extracts.

Recently blogger Debbie Schlussel voiced the Bieganski, Brute Polak stereotype. You can read some of Ms. Schlussel's voicing of the Bieganski, Brute Polak stereotype here.

And Polonia is shocked, shocked.

Me? I'm not shocked.

How else do Polonians respond to the stereotype?

Polonians post sarcastic, obscene, and angry internet posts. One Polish man, in response to my suggestion on Facebook that Polonians might consider buying and reading "Bieganski" in order that they could respond to this stereotype in a reasoned way that would reach the widest possible audience and carry the most weight, said, merely, "Debbie Schlussel wouldn't know the truth if it bit her in the ass."

The whole blog article is very interesting, and shows that the Polonia approach simply doesn't work. He (I assume it's a he) also makes some very interesting observations about how the Polonia community actually works (or doesn't work, as it is).

We can see on this forum that the Polonia do exactly as he says - they post sarcastic, obscene and angry internet posts on PF and are usually completely ineffective at making any sort of point. Not all of them, of course - but the ones who get outraged certainly do.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Of course there are no 32sq/m apartments!!!! none at all!!! As for the money lending shops take a google maps walk through the centre of Gdynia. There are about 7-8 that i can thuink of that have sprung up over the last 2 years.,,,

There are a few, but not that many. Studio flats in the UK aren't bigger, anyway.

Show us. I don't know Gdynia, except where my friend lives.

Also in the UK a higher amaount of people live in houses.

Indeed. And plenty of tax money goes to subsidise those living in houses, too. None of that nonsense in Poland.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Then again a 2 up 2 down (with extension) gives a kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom (about 70-80sq/m) and a back garden... a bit more then the old communist blocks 32sq/m.

Still trying desperately to prove that the UK is far superior, are we?

Anyone who knows anything about the UK knows that 2 up 2 down properties in the North of England in ex-coal towns tend to be thoroughly miserable.

but your point about the housing ladder simply doesn't apply to everyone. And certainly not in Poland.

It doesn't apply at all in Poland, a country where mortgages were pretty uncommon until what, the start of the century?

I'm still wondering where these "money-lending" shops are that he talks about.

Pip - I'm convinced he's actually talking about the UK, because his rantings don't seem to have any relation to reality here. Do you see many 32sqm flats around? I don't...

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

If they choose to enter low-paid, working class professions, why should they get more in life?

And again - you fail to realise that this sort of thing is normal in Europe as a whole. It's not unique to Poland - ask yourself what "2 up 2 down" means, and why it holds a significant part of British culture.

2 parents, 2 children. Somebody's sleeping on the couch. Everyone should have different spacial needs.

Why?

It's not exactly abnormal for children to share a room in Europe if they're of the same sex. If they're of different sex, then most parents simply work harder and get a bigger place. Not rocket science.

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Poland's foreign minister said Wednesday that a decades-long effort at reconciliation with Germany, once a historic foe, "is pretty much done" and the two neighbors "are now at a stage of consummating" the relationship.

Pretty much. Germany is seeing Poland as a powerful partner - even the recent summit between France-Germany-Poland tells you that in the future, Germany is going to rely much more on Poland than on Italy/Spain.

All good news for Poland - the country is growing up, it's seen as stable and on the right path.

Are you sure ? I havent seen that yet !

I think he's living in the UK and getting confused with Poland for some reason. I certainly haven't seen moneylenders opening in closed shops - sure, there are plenty of those small "agencja" places that pay your bills for you, but that's it.

I think this forum continues to forget how much better you all earn compared to probably 90% of the country.

I think you're still clouded by the fact that you were misled into believing that nurses and policemen are middle class in Poland.

When you learn who actually is middle class and who isn't, then we can talk.

Travel / How come no one ever seems to pay for the bus in Poland? [63]

So I'm now going to the machine and I will have to spend an extra 10% on my monthly season ticket just to be on the safe side because nobody here knows the answer or wants to reply. Urbancard should put a map on their website defining what is suburban and explaining which ticket covers the 'accelerated' and the 'hasty' bus. Otherwise fining people for travelling on the wrong bus becomes a lot less justified.

Ah, I noticed this too late -

You could try jakdojade.pl - it would tell you if anything special is needed for your planned route :)

MPK Wroclaw are a horrible, horrible company though. I tried to hire a tram from them - it took them 2 months to tell me that they couldn't do it. Then I tried to hire a bus - again - another month before they told me "we can't".

Useless bunch of morons.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

In Northern England the working classes could afford to buy and did, long before right to buy. Different in the south, but that is why people live 'up North'.

But as they say, "it's grim up north" ;)

The disparity between North and South is shocking, though.

History / Poland and Polish Anti-Semitism, c. 1918-1939 [148]

This is the stuff my parents and grandparents used to tell us kids.

I am convinced that much of this was exaggeration. If it was so widespread as claimed, why is it that there has been no serious research done into it here? There are plenty of "American" studies, yet no-one talks about it. Why?

There was never ever an opposing view broadcast as loudly and as incessantly and as doggedly as the pro-Jewish one. After years of being told that your people are "Jew-haters" and "Jew-persecutors" I began to believe it thereby falling into the trance.

Harry sums it up perfectly.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

Of course, the news today that the Germans are more or less insisting on greater fiscal unity will help things considerably. It's the next stage in EMU, and at this point, is the only practical solution.

I can easily see Germany becoming very wealthy in the future - with fiscal discpline imposed upon the Eurozone and vast debts to be paid to Germany - it can only look good for importers of Polish products, especially given the Polish reluctance to join the Euro. Don't forget that Russia is also becoming very wealthy - and they will want nice Polish products too.

Delph: what on earth makes you think Dessie is back?

I dunno, you know when you just get that feeling?

(the fact that he, like his username, couldn't even get the tennis player's name right says it all)

Or maybe they're survivalists with guns and long beards.

And lots of silver in the basement.
