Real Estate / PLN 2,500 the going rate for an apartment in Poland [210]

why the hell does someone need 5 years of university to work as a marketing assistant?!

If you look at job adverts in the UK they are requesting exactly the same..I suppose they feel like they're getting "quality" Its a bit of a joke really.

As for the Swedish system it makes perfect sense, unless you have 2 or 3 kids, in which case, who gets the house?

If there's people willing to pay for it its obviously not a ripoff,

Not necessarily, prices become inflated and the housing market becomes unrealistic and people don’t really have a choice about what they pay - landlords and sellers dictate the prices - we used to say a house is only worth what you are willing to pay, well house prices increase, housing stocks become depleted (less to go around) therefore property becomes a valuable commodity which people start to pay more for, house prices have quadrupled in the UK over the past 10 years in some areas - strangely enough, salaries seem to have decreased in a lot of professions or not been in line with inflation.

Life / Saw a girl in black openly smoking a spliff on a Katowice street today [49]

Darling, I've smoked both by the tens of thousands and been making both joints and roll-ups since before most of the posters on here were born. If you think a joint looks like a roll up, you must have only seen very bad roll-ups or very bad joints.

I have to concur that I have never seen a rolly that looked like a joint (I made a 10 skinner once, never seen a roll-up look like that :D )

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

but we (Poles) have been over here for 70 years with virtually no Polish crime problem until recently.

Same with the Italian communities who have been here for about 200 years, in a lot of cases they improved poverty stricken districts (little Italy in North Manchester?)

Additionally, few people would be naive enough to suggest that gun crime is only a black thing

No guessing who have carried out all of the guns crime in South Manchester over the past goodness knows how many years..Im also aware of gun crime amongst whites, its not on the same level though. Another driveby this weekend to add to the numbers! I certainly not naive either, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels wasnt a fairy tale :D

Life / POLISH TEENAGERS TURN TO PROSTITUTION... [77]

Some youth today don't even charge. I have heard it called "friends, with benefits".

Hmmm...its not just the youth that have "friends with benefits" :D I think the Americans use the term fcuk buddy? If Im not mistaken...but what we are talking about here is teenagers giving sexual favours to strangers in return for designer goods - this is a form of prostitution, not "friends with benefits" which is generally two consenting adults who are unattached who hook up and have a good time with no cash or gifts exchanged.

It's truly sad when they have to resort to that to pay their way but life is hard for some people.

They dont need these things, there are kids in the UK living below the poverty line whose families cant even afford shoes, these kids are not going out and selling themselves for a pair of nike trainers...As I said these Polish kids have a warm bed and food on the table..thye're just dirty little skanks going as low as they can in order to show off to their friends some nice (probably not that expensive in real terms) bit of tat!

Law / British married to a Polish woman and they have a son. Son's British Passport? [65]

Where she had the baby has no impact on its citizenship. With a Greek father, the child qualifies for Greek citizenship.

True but if that child is a British Citizen and is on her passport then she has peace of mind if there are problems

Although if one is already planning what one might do if one splits up with the other parent of one's child, perhaps one should not be having a child with that person.

I couldnt agree more, but prevention is better than cure and since she'd heard all horror stories she thought she'd make sure she wasnt going to be a victim of circumstances if the marriage broken down - she could just get the hell out of there ;0)

wonder how he's getting on with the 2003 Coroners Act.

So can you blame her for taking the measures she did?

Life / POLISH TEENAGERS TURN TO PROSTITUTION... [77]

think it takes a special kind of kind of girl to turn to prostitution.

Nothing special about it..usually drug users or those who are pretty desparate for money, but I suppose there are the high class call girls who do make a nice living out of shag*in rich men. These girls mentioned on here are just little scrubbers who are turning tricks for trinkets! Most probably have a warm house and food on the table, its not always the fault of the parents, its pretty disgusting.

Which certainly explains the awful dress sense of most young Polish women over here! :D

Meow :D

It's an accepted part of the youth culture in Poland.

I find this difficult to believe thats is part of youth culture, its probably a few 100 if that are doing this.

Law / British married to a Polish woman and they have a son. Son's British Passport? [65]

Friend (English) was married to a Greek, lived in Greece, married in Greece, game back to the UK when she was about 8 months pregrnant (or whatever the latest was she could fly)...She wanted her son on her passport as a precaution..that was my point...They returned to Greece after the baby was born and all the paperwork was done and dusted. They then came back to the UK before he 6 was months old and she never returned with him because the marriage ended...Had she stayed in Greece to have the baby and they'd split, her husband would have got automatic rights to the child...hence the reason she came home to have the baby.

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

Yes, BUT! As they started to migrate to the north, they came in droves. Displacing whole Caucasian neighborhoods. Up until that point, we the Caucasians, Jews, Poles, Greeks, Irish, Italians, Bohemians etc lived in perfect harmony. We soon found that the crime, drugs, filth and squalor that they brought was unlike anything we ever imagined.. THUS>>>>WHITE FLIGHT

Same in the UK, Moss Side used to a beautiful area now they have driveby shootings..no guesses for what colour skin the criminals have? Look at certain estates in London where there's gang war between different african immigrants, thus making it unsafe for English minorities to live.

Jee, you are easily offended!

Not at all, you said I wasnt telling the truth and inferred that I was lying, I politely asked you not to call me a liar.

Yes, 42 and rising ... so? 30.000 and rising disproportionally. I really can't see what you are trying to proof with that statement.

My point is that gun crime is rising in the UK, I thought my statement was quite clear, I have no interest in US if they chose to give every idiot under the sun the right to bear arms then Im actually surprised there aren't more gun related deaths.

I am afraid that's not true either ... Between 1997 and 2006, the number of authorised firearms officers in England and Wales fell from 6.738 to 6.584, even though there have been increases in overall police numbers and gun crime has been increasing as well.

Could you give me your source, because I have friends on the force who will refute your comments.

In the US.

I suppose if an immigrant is paying twice what a home student is paying, they are more inclined to pass, just another foot in the door and a way to get a green card - why do you think these people study in the US?

Thank you Guys!! looks like we are going to London!!! yeeeee

Dont want to pee on your parade, but I hope YOU have a job lined up because without the right papers your b/f wont be able to work and I can tell you now, its not a good time to come to the UK to look for work speculatively.

Good though!

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

And that's not true either. Only special units (like officers in an Armed Response Vehicle or Special Branch) carry weapons; you need to be licensed as an Authorised Firearms Officer.

I said the Police in the UK have guns, I didnt specify which ones had them..so please dont call me liar.

Last year there were about 4,000 armed incidents in England and Wales and 42 people died from gunshot wounds.

42 deaths and rising..

Maybe the Brits have a point here.

We have more armed tactical units now than we have ever had, which means we have more officers who are able to use guns, it will never be like America, but gang violence is increasing.

19,4% of all adult African immigrants in the United States held a graduate degree,

Where was the degree attained?

Law / British married to a Polish woman and they have a son. Son's British Passport? [65]

They've split we don’t know the reasons, he could be a complete tw*t and therein lies the reason for her wanting to take her son out of the country, apparently everything is not hunky dory and amicable because she's lied.....and before we start calling all Polish women conniving b*atches, a friend of mine made sure she didn’t give birth abroad, she came back home so her son had a British passport, just a precaution just in case things went wrong when she was back living in Greece - if you think Polish courts are bad..look at how the Greek family court system works!!!!

Maybe the two of them should have a chat before he starts taking out injuctions and goodness knows what else!

Here in UK Nigerians an people from Zimbabwe are banned.

No they are not, they need visas.

Probably because those countries are so corrupted that most of them has 2 different passports (30 years old guy with passport saying that he is 15, reason is UK has to do age check on him and let him in to the UK.

I dont quite understand what you are talking about, first they're banned now they can get in if they are 15 years old? I think you are getting slightly mixed up with our assylum seekers laws whereby a person is more or less instantly granted assylum if they are a child.

hehe in UK in a place where is 90% Africans population (UNI, Brixton) they discriminate Eastern European badly.

I think you'll find white Brits dont exactly get a warm welcome in ethinic areas, that's why you wont see many living there, if Poles chose to live in these dirty ghettos then that's there problem, I would suggest doing a bit of research before moving to the UK if you want live somewhere nice.

People remember we polish don't owe those Africans nothing, we never took advantage of them. I don't see a point of binging them here. It is too risky.

I think you'll find that by joining the EU you didnt only sign up for just cash handouts and open boarders for work, you also signed up to mass immigration from 3rd world countries, it has nothing to do with you owing them anything...Poland are just another destination.

Countries like UK don't want them any more and they send them to Poland for example because they think that we don't know what will happen. Is it coincidence that we have in Poland Africans from Zimbabwe an Nigeria ? Guess what countries are banned in UK ? Exactly those two. They cannot get even tourist visa any more.

I think you'll find they apply for visas to study and your goverment gives them the visas, it has nothing to do with Britain. You also might want to check your facts, they are not (yes Im going to say it again) banned from the UK, they need visas.

Either way, most post was illinformed and I hope people realise that your comments are not ones of an English / British person.

Why have the gun in the first place?

The police have guns in the UK, the police have guns in the USA, why shouldnt Polish police have them?

If you want to see someone's status papers, is it necessary to have a live and loaded fire arm??

The police officer was plain clothed, who knows what kind of a unit he belonged to.

It will be interesting to see what is said after the enquiry, Im assuming that there will be one?

Check everyone's criminal record all theirs family members etc. before letting them in

Hmm..maybe we should do that in the UK, I can name 4 Polish rapists (thats off the top of my head) and our prisons are full of Polish petty criminals...(we even have 2 prisons dedicated to foreigners)

As to this thread, a man died, regardless of his nationality thats a shame...But he shouldnt have tried to run..he just proved he was committing a crime (inocent people dont run!), as for trying to take the officers pistol off him (if he did) this was a clear indication he was quite happy to use it himself..so instead of a dead nigerian, there would have been a dead Polish police officer.

And the fun begins in Poland...just imagine it in 10 years time..We had another drive-by shooting at weekend, you have all of this to look forward to.

Getting back to his first point, his child can apply for a passport since the OP is British born and holds British Citizenship.

Evidence of the parent's citizenship
You should provide any birth, marriage, naturalisation or registration certificates, passports or official letter which prove the citizenship of the parent concerned.

gov.uk/types-of-british-nationality

Any man and his dogs' kid (no offence to the OP) can claim British citizenship for their child these days - you really wont have a problem.

Work / Moving to Poland from the USA. Question concerning CELTA certificate.I need help [32]

Hi all. I'm trying to decide between Krakow and Budapest for the CELTA. I have a feeling that either course will be fine, but can anyone give me some info regarding the facilities, accommodation etc at either place?

Krakow is cheaper than Budapest in every way Possble, I'd go as far as to say its almost double the living costs...Budapest is also larger, Krakow more compact, I personaly think Krakow is safer than Budapest (some right rough bits to it!)..But Budapest is beautiful and has great night-life, Hungarian food is lovely, dark beer is great and Hungarians are nice friendly helpful people..Poles in shops and restaurants are miserable unhelpful lazy kunts and the foods nothing to write home about..Im sure either will be an experience.

News / Flood situation worsens in southern Poland [119]

Maybe you should think about doing what we've done in Holland. Erect dykes and dig artificial side canals to create a buffer, and pump it out at the sea. It's not a stupid idea, especially not if you're going to look at the future.

We have a large canal system, we have sea front defences, we have 100s of reservoirs and lots of dams, but we also have moutains and valleys and large rivers which makes our landscape more difficult than Hollands to manage, we are also an Island and are situated geographically so that we will always generally have poor weather conditions.

Let's hope it stops raining for you guys, and I wish all of you safe travels. Be careful out there!

We have sunshine here and whilst its been the coldest May on record, its been dry...25 degrees and sunshine on Friday ;0)

Its been 13 years since Poland's last really bad flooding, hopefully it wont become a frequent occurrence..

river floods are best managed by allowing flood plains to, well.. flood

Most of the UK will be a flood plain in a 100 years time :D

Im sure Poland will be fine..They've started to evacuate people and if they take emergency measures they should be able to limit the damage

man : man (guy/man)

This one made me laugh, use of the word guy is rather more slang ;0)

Furious" is exactly a loanword of Latin origin via Old Frisian (?) or Old French (?). I couldnt get it properly because in the "Online Etymology Dictionary" it is accounted under the entry "furious":

I stand corrected, I have no idea where I was told that it was Nordic..

"Origin: Middle English, from Old French furieus, from Latin furiōsus, from furia, fury"

English is such an evolving language...I think its cool too ;0)

But they wouldnt get that in another country..my point is their basic pension is about £60 (not enough to retire to another country with), as for other benefits, trust me, the old in this country dont get that much..

Back on topic, I personally dont think Poland is an attractive place for an elderly person from Britain..South of France on the other hand is quite perfect..climate, food, language (yes a lot of olduns do learn the lingo)..

Looks like UK will raise VAT

Expected to, its not set in stone - 20% isnt so bad, what about Denmark where its 25%

I pay the price on the tin, not some jumped up price when I pay (no sales tax like in the US) - most people wont actually notice a big difference to be honest.

Please explain why so many Brits are seeking out Poland

Married to Poles or went over to teach English, I wouldnt actually say there are "many" not in comparison to the numbers in Spain or France.

I also don't think elderly people go around gallivanting around the countryside 24/7, there are things as wood/gas heating to keep oneself warm in winter unlike wearing a great coat and having a water bottle to keep warm in England.

Why would a Brit go from one cold climate to another? Oldies mirgrate for the winter to warmer places to ones with worse climates than ours.

Understand that the Polish pensioner gets around 800zl a month to live on,

Understand that a single British person with no savings gets about £60 per week to live off (why do you think they are coming back to Britain their droves from Spain, they can no longer afford it!).

the only people who will suffer in Poland will be the low income earners and pensioners once the euro is adopted in Poland.

You make it sound so attractive.

watch this space.

We dont have the euro..Not my problem,

Don't try to frighten me it won't work, the Euro is still a weak currency and will remain so for a long time,

Im not trying to frighten anyone..As for the Euro being weak..tell me, what is the exchange for a $? I'll tell you, 1 $ is about 3/4 of a euro, so its not that weak.

Made so uninteresting that a pupil would never want to pick up a history book again.

I enjoy history..But Im more concerend about my own countries history....It was the common man (and woman) that made it a better place.....

enough that was about the Corn Laws.

Well, you see most people dont quite understand why most large cities have buildings called "The Corn Exchange" or in fact their importance in times gone by..

Anyway I digress..You really shouldnt judge British people..A considerable amount are well travelled and well educated and you might be surprised to find that History is one of the most popular degrees taken by Brits ;0)

would say that time has passed.. it's not as an attractive place to retire these days.. cheaper? depends what you're comparing PL with.

Not to mention Poland will have the Euro in a few years time..Then you can sit back and watch prices rocket through the ceiling like they have done in all the other European countries....

if you receive a foreign pension

Depends on where you are from..and what your pension is worth...Unless people are going back to settle with family, then I dont understand how it could be an attractive place (no offence), its hardly got a climate that the elderly would be dreaming of retiring in.

With the US dollar going beyond 3

But what do you get for a Euro? You have to think long term..

History / How Polish history is viewed by other countries textbooks [124]

The average British or Irish person of my generation knew very little about the history of Poland.

Why would any generation know any indepth history of Poland?..We have our own rich history and we concentrated on Northern Europe and the events there which involved us, along with countries we colonised..We only get 2 double periods a week...I dont expect your "average" English person really cared about Polands' history. I doubt your "average" Brit could name our Kings and Queens from the 10th century! Or tell me what the Peterloo Massacar was!

When I tell people all Europe would be Muslim today if the Poles had not stop them they look at my with surprise.

I think its a bit more complicated than that.
