History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

For example, there were no laws against fraternization between Germans and French or English women.

This reminds us what this thread is about. Why was there this double standard for German connubial relations in World War 2? Was it because long ago Franks, Saxons, Angles, Jutes, and other Germanic tribes overran France and England and thus made those nation's women racially acceptable for coitus? Why would Polish/German "miscegenation" be punished in the appalling manner seen in the OP's video? I put miscegenation in quotation marks because to me those two teenagers look like they are from the same race and I suspect if you showed this video to someone far removed from Central Europe, and the Caucasian race, they would be incredulous when you told them that miscegenation was the crime being punished.

What is it with 'tree hugger" concept? I would like to consider myself a nature lover, but I don't understand this.

They call you this because they are reactionary scum seeking to justify the racist genocidal practices of the Nazi Germans. Reactionaries call anyone who criticizes them and their dim view of humanity and nature tree-huggers, because enviromentalists have been known to resort to "tree hugging" to prevent trees from being cut down.

the double standards of such people?

How are people who claim that switching from ecologically sound reusable mesh shopping bags to wasteful disposable shopping bags was a wrong decision exhibiting double standards?

Why no thread about Soviet atrocities?

There have been many such threads on this forum, but this thread is about how some Germans mistreated two young lovers because one of them was Polish.

The most ecological would be going back to caves, resigning from washing powder, running water, heating, electricity, and PCs in the first place don't you think so.

Yes, I know an extreme family, ecologists, leftists and anarchists.

This is your response to the very sane remark that switching from reusable mesh shopping bags to wasteful single use plastic ones was stupid, and it shows what an utter jackass you are. I wish this Polish family you mentioned were posting on here rather than you- a childish clown.

Language / Use of A/An/The ...... Articles [186]

Neil Armstrong has always said that he included the article

Wrong, Armstrong said he "would hope that history would grant me leeway for dropping the syllable and understand that it was certainly intended, even if it was not said – although it might actually have been".

Poles do not wory so much about this because even native English speakers make these mistakes. The most famous example is surely that of the astronaut who was supposed to say "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" but instead said "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". Without the article "a" before it "man" is synonomous with "mankind" and thus the astronaut's proclaimation contradicted itself.

Nazism was not related to the German nation.... Are you nuts? The German nation elected the Nazis. What did the placard Gerhard was forced to wear say? Do you honestly believe all those gawkers watching he and Bronia being shorn and humiliated were without exception members of the Nazi party? Why do so many posters on this thread feel the need to defend the German nation's "soundness" despite having watched the original post's video? Saying that World War Two was a low point for the German nation is not Hitlerism but the condemation of Hitlerism and yes it is the deserved condemnation of the nation that embraced Hitlerism.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Of course, the fact that Russians are portrayed as alcoholics in the Western media, Germans portrayed as Hitler-lovers, Italians as being exceptionally lazy, French as being smelly onion eaters and so on means nothing to you, doesn't it?

This thread is about POLISH jokes. You are off-topic.

No, just the systematic destruction of Dresden, as well as the kangaroo trials at Nuremburg

The former was done by British bombers to the Germans and the latter were done by the Allies to prosecute war criminals. I only claimed the Germans didn't dehumanize the British as they did the Poles as this thread shows.

I mean, it's not like the Poles ever killed anyone just for being of a different ethnicity

This thread is not about Poles murdering different ethnicities. If you wish discuss such events start a new one about them.

So - do you speak Polish?

This is the English language section of the forum.

Have you ever visited?

This thread is about events in Poland that occurred long before I was born. Have you ever gone back in time?

What exactly do you know about Polish-German relations?

I have read several books written on the subject by historians as well as numerous works of fiction that also deal with the subject, such as Gunter Grass's Danzig trilogy. I think I see your problem Delphiandomine. You resent Polish-Americans posting on this forum because we do not live in Poland as you do. I am surprized you cannot hear us laughing at your pettiness despite our geographical distance from Poland, because we Polish-Americans are laughing very loudly at you- an uptight clown that wants a medal for living in Poland.

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Nope not really, the American in question would have to specify whether they were English or Welsh or Scottish or Cornish etc. and if they were some combination of these they would have to specify each one. Americans calling themselves Scotch-Irish are very common especially amongst our rustic hill-folk.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

The largest wave of Poles that came to North America for example happened around the time
"communism" died afaik. So its been roughly two decades.

This is not true Legend. The largest wave was in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

It was meant to condition the American public to have the same anti-Polish prejudice that the left-wing TV networks/Hollywood had of Polish people.

Media Watch you sound like an insane person when you claim that there was a left-wing conspiracy to demean the Polish with these jokes. Polish-Americans, like most immigrants from the great second wave that flowed into this country, voted Democratic, so what would be the reason for the Left to want to demean them in the heyday of Polish jokes a few decades ago? If the TV Networks and Hollywood did publicize such jokes for any reason, that maybe considered nefarious, it was not because of politics but rather because many of the programmers were Jewish Americans that disliked Poles because of the slights they believed they, or their progenitors, suffered in Poland before coming to America.

Yes Fuzzy, this Italian-American type, often perjoritively described as a "Guido" (which is unfortunate because the name Guido was once synonymous in English with the divine painter Guido Reni), is indeed the most obnoxious example of ethnic identity gone awry in all of the USA. The Irish-Americans are a very distant second that usually only harp (get it?) upon their Irishness when they are in their cups.

History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

These men had fought each other at sea during the war, yet in peacetime they drank together and shared stories.

I don't mean to stir the pot Daisy but your heartwarming tale of buried hatchett camaraderie can be explained by the fact that it took place between submariners from nations with Germanic roots who hadn't been locked in a brutal struggle unto the death for one thousand years like Poles and Germans have been. This is a Polish discussion forum and the sickening dehumanization of Poles that Germans perpetrated in WW2, as is evinced by the text of the sign Bronia was forced to wear, was not done by the Germans to the British.

So what? You don't understand the context here in America. Anglophonic American citizens can recognize each other instantly after speaking with each other. Thus when they ask each other about their ethnicity they do not reply "I am an American" because they would be seen as utter bores stating the obvious. Ethnicity for non-Native Americans is tied to their countries of ancestral origin. We remember where our ancestors came from because it is part of our individual identities in a motley nation of immigrants.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

I personally knew a Hungarian man -- I had known him for many years and once he drove me from Brno to Budapest when I was very ill -- who committed suicide by jumping from the high-tower when the last crisis began.

Using a Hungarian suicide as evidence for a poor Hungarian economy is rather misleading because Hungarians are renown the world over as being the most suicidal of nations.

News / Warsaw is the natural capital of Europe, not Brussels [67]

the geographic centre of Europe

Do any of the people calculating this "centre" ever explain where the Eastern extremity of Europe is? Is it the Western foothills of the Urals, or their tops, or their Eastern edges? In any event Europe is not a continent because mountain ranges are parts of continents and not the delineations of them.

Travel / Attractions in Wrocław: a Must-See List [117]

Zoos are also places where endangered species are bred and preserved.

That is truly their only redeeming activity. When you see the imprisoned eagle at the Worclaw Zoo remember that legendary eagle who defended her nestlings despite the dagger of the first Polish king piercing her and staining the bright white feathers of her chest with her hot red blood and remember that that king relented and let the eaglets remain free.

Travel / Attractions in Wrocław: a Must-See List [117]

Yep, especially as you can now get a joint ticket for both the Zoo and the Aquapark - 99zl for the family.

It's definitely the best attraction in Wroclaw for kids, anyway.

H.L Mencken on zoos:
"There remains, then, the only true utility of a zoo: it is a childish and pointless show for the unintelligent, in brief, for children, nursemaids, visiting yokels and the generality of the defective. Should the taxpayers be forced to sweat millions for such a purpose? I think not. The sort of man who likes to spend his time watching a cage of monkeys chase one another, or a lion gnaw its tail, or a lizard catch flies, is precisely the sort of man whose mental weakness should be combatted at the public expense, and not fostered. He is a public liability and a public menace, and society should seek to improve him. Instead of that, we spend a lot of money to feed his degrading appetite and further paralyze his mind. It is precisely as if the community provided free champagne for dipsomaniacs, or hired lecturers to convert the army to the doctrines of the Bolsheviki.

Of the abominable cruelties practised in zoos it is unnecessary to make mention. Even assuming that all the keepers are men of delicate natures and ardent zoophiles (which is about as safe as assuming that the keepers of a prison are all sentimentalists, and weep for the sorrows of their charges), it must be plain that the work they do involves an endless war upon the native instincts of the animals, and that they must thus inflict the most abominable tortures every day. What could be a sadder sight than a tiger in a cage, save it be a forest monkey climbing dispairingly up a barked stump, or an eagle chained to its roost? How can man be benefitted and made better by robbing the seal of its arctic ice, the hippopotamus of its soft wallow, the buffalo of its open range, the lion of its kingship, the birds of their air?"

Love / Iron Maiden on Wedding party? Only in Poland (in 1984 :-) [9]

What is the deal with Iron Maiden and Poland? I have seen a video on You tube where the band is holding a Polish flag together. They do have two famous songs about the Battle of Britain: Where Eagles Dare and Aces High. Is it the participation of Polish airmen in that fight?

Life / What do you generally think about Poles? [62]

I am a Polish-American and I think Poles are too eager to be like Western Europeans. I think Poles should revive Sarmatism and start wearing turbans, jewels and silks again and be aloof and dismissive towards Westerners. If Poles were to do this then Poland would immediately become a famous country once again. All over the world hipsters would love Poland. Poland needs to get its style back.
