UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

UK is the British Isles..and Wales is part of that...He meant on the Island, not just England..

So did I, I was just pointing out the point that a lot of the UK and Irelands castle remain because we weren't invade that many times unless we were fighting ourselves.

Wales is part of the uk? try telling them that :P

I agree with SeanBM, if you venture out of the cities and into the "deep" country you will find tonnes of castle, towers, palaces. They're there and not really that hard to find.

Not that many compared to the British Isles, which have a huge number.

Though the UK has been a warring country with itself more often during history. Wales has more castles than any other country in the world.

Food / Polish fast food joints? [59]

the location is a little out there, but they are doing that area up.

That was thinking behind it, there is a lot of investment going into that part of the city for new business'.

The person that owns the place is an Irish guy I believe.

Aye it is, he owns another place just round the corner on the same side near to the uni, unless he has changed its name to shanti.

Food / Polish fast food joints? [59]

Roosters is a franchise, same company who owns the American hooters. Sphinx is owned by a Polish chain, they also own WOK and Chłopskie Jadło under the trading name of Sfinks Polska S.A.

Edit; sorry I meant wook.

And ''sphinx'' I thought was an Egyptian themed Polish restaurant?

Avoid like the plague! Never could get to like that place, didn't really know what type of food to serve.

I thought "roosters" in Krakow and Zakopane was Polish?

Always good for the footy and the food ain't that bad either :/

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

I've got cancer caused by my smoking - please help me NHS - it's my right - because I paid a lot of money in".

Because smoking could be only a factor to why a person has cancer. All patients should receive treatment no matter what they have done. It's not up to healthcare workers to decide on who to treat and who not to treat.

Still, no one has yet to give me an argument against banning alcohol. It costs the NHS a hell of a lot more money than smoking and even costs the treasury a lot more money trying to control those (police im talking about her) who cant handle drink...

The personal liberty of staff not to get cancer or COPD through passive smoking?

So then it is up to the person, who very well knew what environment they would be working in before they took the job, to look for a different job.

The personal liberty of a pregnant woman to go somewhere without worryng about inhaling cigarette fumes?

Why would a pregnant woman be going to a bar??? Is said pregnant woman not capable of making a choice?

Giving birth is also a dangerous thing, let make the world infertile and only have cloned babies.

The liberty of non-smokers to go to a public place without getting other people's smoke in their hair, clothes, lungs?

So don't go, make an informed choice not to go if you are that worried about inhaling other people's smoke. Go to a place where you already know that people won't be smoking. Make an informed choice and be adult about it. The same with people who don't drink alcohol, they can't enter a bar knowing fully that nobody else is going to be drinking there...

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

The way Poles all seem to say "Of course" in answer to something which isn't so obvious.

They just like to appear brainy ;)

The way some shop assistants finish what they're doing, albeit taking some time, before serving a customer.

But they are not there to assist the customer. They are there to show the world how fecked their lives are cos they can only be shop assistants.

Worst place is Mcdonalds, where the word queue is unknown :D like most places especially the airports Polish folk dont know anything other than "run to the front and push as hard as u can!" :D

Isn't it that surnames come first because that is how they are filed alphabetically?
You could waste so much time looking for an Adam or Kasia, when you could just look up the second name.

The law probably isn't going to be exactly the same in Poland as it is in Ireland though I suppose.

The law won't be the same in Poland, this law is only going to ask owners to introduce serperate area's of the bar for smokers and non-smokers. Some bar owners may wish that only a small area of the bar will be given to non smokers. The 2 bar owners which I'm friends with in Krakow say that most of the customers they have are smokers, therefore they won't be taking much notice of the new "rules".

UK, Ireland / Do all Brits take (illegal) drugs? [114]

I felt very comfortable as I know how to deal with them.

You sure? ;) but yes there is something about having a little confidence in being around such people. They are just like us, with certain things that have gone missing. Bannockburn was a scary place even for me. Its like the last stand for this areas Psych patients. It was scary, but I loved my chats with the patients, and it was one of the reasons I got hooked with this job, such an interesting environment plus very rewarding when things go right :)

UK, Ireland / Why Manchester rules over Warsaw :) [65]

Their language abilities certainly beat the UK, where the school system seems to have given up trying to teach a second language.

I think that is more down to the fact that English is the number one language in most aspects of life when its crosses borders. I personally love different languages, but im not the best student, but I find it important and rewarding to speak more than one. Also we dont really have a need to learn another language. Its not something you would find on a job application form.

Warsaw prewar ( before ww2 )

Im not saying that Warsaw wasn't a beautiful city, im just saying compared to other cities in Poland it is by far not the prettiest.

London and Manchester

Still a lot better than Warsaw, city planners have ruined that city for money.

Can't, its not "him". Cant really treat or prosecuted someone like that in the state he is in. For all we know he could have had his drink spiked.
