UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland by Peadar de Burca. They "turned their backs on a country that gave them" [195]

Again true but I still believe in closure. If there is no common cry for it then the status quo can prevail.

Well, that's not our call to make, I-S. I do believe in the brocard, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. A fine adage indeed! I was talking more in principle than in theoretical terms.

Anyway, let's get this back on track. The EU created freedom of movement. The Poles made use of it and did nothing illegal by leaving Ireland.

Life / Looking to immigrate to Europe. How is life in Poland? [116]

I've never been to SA, no. However, I love the crispness of New World wines. They can be found here but as long as one is not too fussy :) My favourite is Jackson's Estate from Marlborough, NZ. What SA white or red wines would you be looking for in Poland? There are some specialist outlets in major cities.

Life / Polish general knowledge quiz.(for foreigners) [28]

Polska Biało-Czerwoni tells you all you need to know but b is not wrong :) :) Some people might have their flag inverted ;)

I can assure you that the test is not too hard for me having been here for so long. Besides, it's best to be sure face-2-face. Anyone can say they got 100% but cheat all the while.

You might be glad to know that the bigger cities are expanding their wine trade. I guess, as a SA, that you like a good white wine :) :) Although hardly the mecca of wines, Poland is developing its range. Even here in Gliwice, I have some decent places to get all I need. Other posters might be having a laugh here but wine is a way of life for some people, esp from SA.

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

Krupa is a bit like that French cook, Paskal. He is half Polish and makes mistakes on purpose. Krupa does get muddled up, right enough.

I told a Polish guy to say zwiastun and not trailer. Either you use one or the other.

Life / Polish general knowledge quiz.(for foreigners) [28]

The first question reminds me of a Marx Brothers sketch, a.k. Are you after Mullins and McCartey? No, the fellas we are after are McCartey and Mullins :) :)

You would have been well advised to write:

c half red and half white.

Then the test would have been truly Polish ;) ;)

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

Broadly socialist, yes. However, I more than many see that it's an inherently complicated issue and not black&white. Politics are changing. No longer can Modern Studies teachers allow themselves to teach so plainly the ideas which were formerly taught regarding the political spectrum. I do hate labelling, it's just a fact!

I-S, yes they are and my point is that they are. Thanks for your attention.

WP, just ignore those kinds of comments. He hasn't noticed anything but brown as his head is so far up his arse. Tylko gówno widział.

Gumi, they are broadly socialist but you know how much I dislike labels ;)

What is clear is that they wouldn't have created the wedge as deep as PO have with regards to the haves and the have-nots.

Law / Bureaucracy in Poland [53]

Oh, they love pointing out if you've made a mistake. Their treatment of Poles is bad too, you are right enough. My father-in-law is one of the most respectful and nicest guys I have ever met. They told him to redo a form for no good reason and, being the good man he is, just winked at me as if to say 'it's all under control'. However, I could tell that she had got to him a little. We were there for a long time and rather than spell it out to us clearly one time, she kept waving her arms and giving little bits of info. Very nasty woman!

However, the courageous can break away from that and be nice :)
