USA, Canada / CULTURE SHOCK! (of my Polish finance who visited the US) [210]

As well as blunt sounding it is also a bit lazy and inaccurate - what is black music: reggae? blues? rap? house? dance? soul? R&B?

Black music is contemporary hip hop, rap, and r&b which originated from black communities in the US, therefore, black music. The term "Black music" reflects urban black American culture.

Where would Eminem's records be then since he arguably produces "black" music?

Eminem does indeed produce what would be called black music in Germany.

The shop was careless and should have expected trouble.

From some politically correct foreigner? Natives don't have a problem with it (black or white, you can see that in clubs on "black music night"), why should it be changed because someone has a problem? It's not meant to be offensive.

I'd say the difference between Germany and the USA is far less than Poland and the USA

That is interesting. Is it the relative poverty that throws you off (compared to say, the rest of Europe)? This may sound crude, but for me, seeing white people in relative poverty was something new for me. I mean, you see pockets of poverty in the countryside back in the states, but the first time I visited Poland (the countryside, of course..), it was a lot like visiting a Mexican village with people that look like me. A lot has changed since then, and the big financial and quality of life differences are getting smaller and smaller.

?

In quite a few places it doesn't :)

in Poland you can't?

In Poland I can, that's what I was trying to say. I don't see much of a difference.

what does that have to do with comparing Poland to America? that's all we're comparing here.

Because when comparing places, it's usually relative to where you've been/lived at. Dunno, I I see Poland/US as having subtle differences. Water comes out of facets, you can buy coffee, there are roads, grocery stores, toilet paper, no street urchins/masses of beggars, no open sewers, etc.

The cultures are pretty much the same, same family structures. Men, women, and children have pretty much the same roles. The majority of values carry across the ocean.

Do you see as big of a difference between the US and Poland as say the US and the UK? Germany?

USA is a big country. Maybe its all about what state you ywo come from? Someone from California can describe Poland as completely different world.

From Oklahoma, but I've lived in a couple of different places.

I'm being completely honest.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever lived anywhere outside of Europe and North America? I'm not trying to take a dig at you or anything by the way, just wondering.

The two countries are so incredibly different that after flying America - Poland - America - Poland a few times, I started feeling like I had two completely different lives and that they were on totally seperate planets.

Are you being facetious? I suppose it's all relative. Poland doesn't seem a whole lot different than the US. Little things, but nothing that I would consider shocking.

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

Reducing the frequency of masturbation or ejaculation will help maintain low levels of DHT and avoid hair loss.

So bald guys get their schwerve and/or spank on more?

Men with shaved heads, scars on their faces, no necks, and with about as much conversational skills as a potato.

Which means that they can both keep busy by talking about inane things.

Genealogy / Michniewicz Zygmunt. Terminally ill and looking to contact old friends and colleagues. [20]

Does anyone know if crew lived in a particular city, or did they live all over Poland? That might narrow things down a bit.

Found a message board for enthusiasts at shiplovers.pl apparently lots of mariners post there as well. Maybe they could help out?

Are there any international mariners association or something like that?

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

I have never had a problem either, aside from aforementioned drunkard that smelled a bit like pee. Most are students, some are workers getting back and forth.

People, if you see someone with hazard lights on in the winter, stop and ask them if they need help. If not, tell them to turn off their hazard lights... only you can prevent forest fires...

Or drunks that smell like urine, its good language practice. "No, no, I wanted to go to Jordanow, this is where I live. No, no, not Wroclaw...".

But cars that are on the side of the road with four ways on, I always stop.

The U.S. are very strict on this

when it comes to US content. Polish content... who cares?

"where ppl just login and have access"

The problem with all this is that you're your stealing content...I know you aren't, but that's the perception.

If you get a server in Poland, you can pull th streams to that server and redistribute them in the US. They will probably hunt you down, (or not), but it's definitely doable.

And don,t think having a 4 x 4 will get you out of trouble if you can,t drive

You'd be surprised at how many people think that throwing it in to 4 hi will magically make road conditions go back to normal.

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

Heh, two years ago I was driving from Wroclaw to Frankfurt and got caught in a stau in Chemnitz. Apparently the jam was due to ice on the road (it was a bit under freezing)...while sitting in traffic, the rear end slid until it hit the slush. I nearly peed myself. Needless to say, I worked my way to the next exit and crashed out until the sun came up.
