Life / Water from wells in Warsaw - Safe to drink? [24]

the problem is that by the time the water gets from the the company to the house- the dirty old pipes have tainted the water.

all the old (german) pipes are being changed or relined in wroclaw. it is a process of change that has been going on for a few years now.

also, some old houses still have some lead pipework.

Law / Polish Citizenship, do I have to travel to Warszawa (Warsaw) to get it? [13]

I just need to get the paperwork gathered together.

among that list may be: list of employment, previous jobs etc.

they may do a background check on: military service, criminal record etc.

u really have to go through things very carefully, take your time and get official translations where necessary (birth cert, marriage cert). if they are still required these days. i imagine things have changed a little since i applied.

Life / Second hand stores in Wroclaw? [7]

You may try a vintage clothing store

i'm not aware of such places in wroclaw. there are too many secondhand stores for anyone to take vintage clothing seriously.
i know they might do well in places like the usa and uk, but not wroclaw.

i imagine someone will now post that we do have them. we'll see.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

the fact that folks are trying to get a rise out of someone is what is going to land them in trouble.

discuss in friendly terms, please.

I think it looks like Jagula.

post some copies/photos of the certs and we will try to give you an informed opinion re the names etc.

do it in B&W and change the contrast (for darker print). they will be easier to read.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

So you think U.S. Polonians should be disenfrancished because 80% of them voted for a party that you don't like.

who they vote for is of no consequence. why should i worry about the party that came in second.

had they voted PO my opinion would be the same.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

and they trust their fellow Polish citizens abroad to make informed choices at the ballot box.

the point is that they don't.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

You do know that the vast majority of Polish people do not want anybody who calls their grandmother busia to have any say in how Poland is run, don't you?

there are many here who don't realize that pol-ams get to vote. when they are informed.. it doesn't look good... the sooner these 'foreigners' lose their vote, the better it will be.

There are folk who post on here almost every week asking about life in Poland. their misconceptions are there for all to see. and yet some of these same people have a right to vote. it's fcuking ridiculous.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

would do well to bear in mind that that a goodly portion of US Polonians' hard-earned money is sent to families in Poland

in what way would this change, if they lost the right to vote ?

Language / Kurwa? at end of every sentence [51]

I ask them why you always say (Kurwa) at end of every sentence,

they obviously don't understand the true nature of their own language. kurwa is not used to end a sentence. it should be every second word in the sentence. when one is excited, using a double kurwa in the middle of a sentence is acceptable.

i'm sure others will back me up on this.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

one white set of A4: 8 pages. one page of yellow A4.

one cross for each set.

i selected one from list seven (white pages)

and top of the list (yellow page)

The register of household names, for my area, showed that three or four people got there before me. this means that so far turn out is normal and low for this time of day.

Law / Polish Citizenship, do I have to travel to Warszawa (Warsaw) to get it? [13]

I professionally deal with certifying Polish citizenship for people who live abroad but have their roots in Poland.

could u please answer the opening question for us. it really would help.

No unfortunately I do not live in Poland.

those in the usa don't have to come here so i'd doubt you'd have to.

Law / Polish Citizenship, do I have to travel to Warszawa (Warsaw) to get it? [13]

I wanted to ask if I have to travel to Warszawa to get it?

i shouldn't think so, these days. however, i had to in the distant past.

where are u now ? it might make a difference.

when u get it it will be a semi-official meeting at the city hall of the place u live. if u are in Poland that is.

UK, Ireland / Polish Prams & Baby Travel Systems [12]

travel systems.

never heard it before. love it.

not many use prams these days. some folk carry babies in those sling thingys and some use fancy baby buggies or you might see folk using the carrier that fits in cars. yes, there is a multitude of 'travel systems' for babies.

prams are too expensive, usually too big and inconvenient. however, they are best for baby.

UK, Ireland / Cigarettes in Poland (cost, brands). The situation in the UK? [57]

But most people will crack when confronted with an empty room, a tape recorder and an interrogation from someone in a uniform.

i didn't. but i didn't get my radio (difference between a pink slip and a green one, if i recall) back either. at least they made it very difficult and beyond the expense i'd already paid. the uk bond store is/was at the opposite end of the country to me. they don't send things on... one has to have all the documentation and then go and get it.

Wroclaw - for what it's worth,

yes, i understand. we have spoken about it before.

Sorry but ur wrong. 800 is still only a guideline

it might or might not be. however, if u are going by car and get stopped at the german border i think u can say goodbye to your extra ciggies. there are enough warnings at the border-crossing shops, which sell drink and ciggies. in fact these shops won't even sell u more than 800.
