News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Rafał Ziemkiewicz

You could come up with a better source than someone who lives in Kaczyński's back pocket, really.

you probably never read Ziemkiewicz - he is hardly Kaczyński's puppet

Except the picnics all over Poland, concerts, meetings and more.

picnics concerts etc at this time of the year are due to mostly good weather - hardly anywhere it is dedicated to the anniversary of 4th of June - sorry to burst your buble - oh wait maybe where municipal authorities got politicized like in bigger cities run by PO it is true now- but it was not true in the past (no special celebrations)

The symbol of Polish freedom being banned during the weekend in which we celebrate Polish freedom is just...hilarious.

most Poles don't celebrate 4th of June - you don't see flags on private properties on that day - Rafał Ziemkiewicz explains why there is nothing to celebrate in his latest column on interia.pl

Introduced by the Act dated 10 September 2015. Amends the Act - Tax Ordinance and provides for the introduction of changes from 1 July 2016 - the single control file (the JPK).

the article states that the increase in tax income will be 200 to 300 million not 15 billion though

here's quite a nice article about the VAT gap - wyborcza.biz/biznes/1,148065,19884703,szalamacha-zabiera-sie-za-szara-strefe-bedziemy-mieli-wielka.html

the data in the graphs are from 2013 and 2014

it was estimatet for 2013 that there was 15 billion PLN of undue VAT refunds (illegal)

Or do you seriously believe they can deliver on even a fraction of the tax and spend promises they made to buy the votes of the gullible?

you might have missed it but last year crooks extracted 82 billion PLN from the state in undue VAT refunds - PiS is going to try to curb these criminal activities - 82 billion is almost 1/4th of Polish budget - it is possible that losses to the budget due to these illegal activities will be lower this year by 15 billion PLN - well thought out and restrictive law can eradicate these dealings altogether - which I hope for during the 4 years term - if PiS succeed in it they will surely have another 4 years in office

, then please don't cry when a future government passes a law overnight that all members of PiS are to be immediately stripped of Polish citizenship

that would mean a civil war my dear friend

Nope. Article 195, paragraph 1.

the article 197 says that the modus operandi (ie how Tribunal proceeds and how rulings are to be made) of the Tribunal is determined by a bill passed by Sejm

It's very clear. The Constitution says very clearly that rulings of the TK are final and binding.

it is very clear in the constitution that the Tribunal has to proceed according to the rules passed by Sejm - simple as that - the ruling in question was not really a ruling according to the rules passed by Sejm simple as that

However, the Venice Commission already agreed that it's complete nonsense for the TK not to be able to rule on this.

Venice Commission has no say in Poland

Actually, they aren't. The TK is only bound to the Constitution, not to lesser laws passed by the National Assembly.

the constitution states otherwise

I'm in favor of 'rule of law'.

I will kindly remind you then the PO government happily ignored around 40 rulings by the Constitutional tribunal in their 8 years - is this the rule of law you are talking about

furthermore - that PiS broke the law is not even clear - the constitution in these aspects is not unambiguous to say the least (it is not explicitly saying that the President needs to sing judges nominations instantly and the constitution does not explicitly say what kind of majority the Tribunal needs to make rulings with - in other instances the Constitution explicitly says what kind of majority is necessary)

anyway the Constitution explicitly says that the Tribunal is bound to operate according to a bill passed by Sejm - which Rzepliński ignored

what do you project here mafketis?

There was a huge turnout across many Polish cities and many cities abroad - this was very much a day of decisive protest against PiS.

decisive protest? in what terms? do you believe PiS will now give in to the protester demands? I honestly don't understand you

News / Poland may take the EU to court if they step up pressure -- Kaczyński [89]

In the UK, thats not true, the Second House, the House of Lords, consists of several hundred unelected cross party members who can block the governments laws

ok I was not aware of that

explain how

Harry did it pretty well in fairness ;)

and I explained why it does not matter in Poland - at least in the short run

Pretending to be democractic doesn't mean that you are.

you know there is country called the Netherlands which is democracy and has constitution and does not have anything similar to the Polish Constitutional tribunal - whatever laws are passed by the parliament they can't be challenged by any courts just like in Britain

News / Poland may take the EU to court if they step up pressure -- Kaczyński [89]

I don't think so, but if you can prove it I'm open to correction.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Election_threshold - look at the chart below the article it lists the European countries with election threshold - majority of them do have a threshold including Germany

Yea, no, wrong on this I'm afraid, they matter a lot, like, the matter, really, really, really a lo

explain how :) otherwise it's just mumbo jumbo

if someone invests money on the stock market and makes money, he pays tax on his gains

yeah I understand it - the point is Harry only a tiny tinusienki minority of Poles invest in the stock market - therefore the fluctuations of the market don't have much impact on the income of the state - simple as that - so yeah the importance of the stock market for Polish economy is by no means vital

Of course they do - where do you think the tax revenue (including personal income tax) comes from? What about tax on goods and services?

it does not come from the stock market for sure - you must be some kind of idiot - if the drop in stock market value would instantly influence wages and prices of goods we would all feel it in Poland - we haven't - what you write here is some mumbo jumbo

the tax revenues which fall very quickly when companies that are listed on a given market lose value on that market

income tax and vat don't depend on the 'market value' of companies - these two taxes form the majority of the Polish state income

the ability of companies to pay a good price for imported raw materials and to get a good price for exported finished goods. This is directly affected by the company's value and capitalisation.

you must be kidding me

Work / 13000 zloty salary enough to save 9000 zloty with normal living in Poland? [37]

it is entirely possible if you are single or live as one - rent of a studio appartment should cost you about 1100 to 2000 PLN depending on the city -

you probably will prepare food for your self for the most part - while not all (not even the majority I would think) Indian cuisine ingredients are readily available in Poland (and therefore some are not cheap) if you adjust a little bit to the produce available you should spend no more than 1000 PLN for food (most people in Poland spend even less even though they eat meat) - also there are vegetarian joints in all major cities in Poland - one chain is Green Way for example - they have a website but only in Polish (greenway.pl)

the other major cost is transportation - in big cities it is easier and more economical to use public transportation which is fairly cheap in Poland (around 100 - 150 PLN for a monthly pass)

News / Poland may take the EU to court if they step up pressure -- Kaczyński [89]

(that BS 5% rule) just proves that the Polish government in 1989 never intended for true democracy to take hold in Poland.

1) most of democracies in Europe have a threshold just like in Poland sometimes lower sometimes higher
2) there was a time we didn't have the threshold and it was very difficult to form a parliamentary majority - the threshold was introduced in 1993

And PiS have lost what? A billion dollars off the Polish stock market since then? Nice

I does not matter much in the short term how much the Warsaw stock market lost - stock markets are not vital sources of income for the state and VAT scammers are very detrimental to the budget at the moment

News / Russia says: WE'LL NUKE POLAND [150]

Do they have such imprecise missiles that they would waste such precious equipment fot civilian, non-military targets; it would be counterproductive on all accounts?

you underestimate the psychological effect nuking a city has on potential enemy - it's the ultimate shock and awe weapon - also notice that cities are transport hubs - look at Warsaw - so many bridges in one place and a railway hub

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

Not when priests are involved, what with the massive amount of pressure that the Church exerts on individuals in Poland to do things 'correctly', such as selling them land for 2% of the value.

sorry - I never experienced any pressure from the church -you can safely live without church interfering in your life in Poland - if someone is that easily influenced to sell their property for 2 per cent of its value (never heard of such instances) they have only themselves to blame

Nothing to do with corruption and everything to do with the RCC wielding far too much influence over public life. Judges are human, and the State has done nothing to protect them from outside interference.

1. how do you envision this protection 2. judges in Poland have immunity and they are not elected - it's enough for them to have a moral backbone not to give in to outside influences 3. if they do give in then they are ****** not justice makers - which was shown on a couple of spectacular occasions (look up judge Milewski case from Gdańsk - he was and still is a chief judge there as far as i know or the judge from Suwałki who committed suicide after it surfaced that she took money from gangsters to pass favourable verdicts to them - she was not the only one doing this in Suwałki it appears)

dodgy verdicts

you don't believe in the Polish legal system? how dare you?
oh wait maybe the Polish legal system is corrupt up to the Constitutional Tribunal, what do you think?
look up the decision of the Tribunal to take the savings of millions of Poles in retirement funds away from them - because as the Tribunal said it was a tax not private savings

News / Poland may take the EU to court if they step up pressure -- Kaczyński [89]

Poland was advancing so well, until last October

it was advancing so well that the state debt doubled in 8 years even despite the fact that the government stole 150 billion PLN from poeple's retirement funds with the help of your beloved Constitutional Tribunal

The majority didn't vote for PiS, in a normal democracy a coalition of the current opposition would be in power.

is the UK a normal democracy? - why are Tories governing with below 40 per cent of votes in the last election

Work / What salary can be asked at IBM Poland? [67]

10000 gross

- 10 000 PLN per month or per annum? if per month then it is not much less than what president of Poland earns - I can't believe it's per annum because it would be less than the minimum monthly wage

10 000 per month gross is enough for 2 people to live very well in Poland even in Warsaw

Life / How much it will cost approximately to have a dog in Poland? [12]

Oh I was thinking of Yorkshire..

I have a miniature Yorkshire - it cost 600 PLN - he is quite inexpensive to keep (doesn't eat a lot) - I don't know if it's only mine one but he often needs to go for a walk like every 3 to 4 hours - but maybe you can train one to pee and poo on a pad you were talking about - I think such pads are available in Polish pet shops
