Language / Why x.xx$ in Poland? [20]

because we have 50 zł, not zł50...

Sorki but that's not always true ;)

United States Dollar (USD)
USD $ 1 $ 5 $ 10 $ 50 $ 100 $ 250 $ 500
PLN zł 3.44 zł 17.19 zł 34.38 zł 171.88 zł 343.76 zł 859.4 zł 1718.8

Polish Zloty (PLN)
PLN zł 5 zł 10 zł 50 zł 100 zł 250 zł 500 zł 1000
USD $ 1.45 $ 2.91 $ 14.55 $ 29.09 $ 72.73 $ 145.45 $ 290.9

finance.yahoo/currency-converter/?u#from=USD;to=PLN;amt=1

Why do Poles insist on writing 25$ and the like. Shouldn't currency symbols precede the numerals thus: $25, ₤3,50 or €4.89?

It's just a different tradition, that's all.

Why do we write May 5th, 2010 when most of the world writes 5 May, 2010?

Why do we write 1,000.00 when most of the world writes 1000,00?

Why do we say it's 59F outside when most of the world says it's 15'C?

Why do we drive 75MPH on the interstate when most of the world drives at 120km/h?

Why do we buy a gallon of milk when most of the world gets 3.8 liters? (Ok, for Brits here a gallon is 4.55 liters ;)

I say why not? Vive la différence ;)

Genealogy / About Raczkowski [16]

The second promise I'm still working on and so I humbly ask for your help!

I think it's great you try to keep the promise you made to your mom. I live in the US so I can't help a whole lot but does your parents' marriage license, divorce decree, etc. have your dad's personal number, social security number, etc.? Not sure what the Canadian equivalent is. There are PIs who're fairly inexpensive. In the US a couple hundred dollars will give you 24 hours or so of them searching all kinds of data bases, birth certificates, divorce documents, etc, etc. Maybe that's an option?

Wish you good luck.

Real Estate / Do any UK banks offer mortgages for Polish properties. [37]

I assume your earnings are in £? It's dangerous to borrow in let's say pounds, Swiss franks, dollars, etc if you earn in złoty (and the other way around) as large currency fluctuation can make your "great interest rate" quickly change to very high payments due to unfavorable currency rates. For example many borrowers in Hungary took mortgages in Swiss franks and now with the current forint rate are struggling to make payments. Just be careful.

Travel / Public Transportation in Poland [30]

...Warschau...

Where is that? Close to Dooblin?

Hmm, so you're posting from Ireland on a Polish forum writing in English yet using the German name for the Polish capital??

Love / Insultive opinions about Polish girls... [139]

zxo - it's very simple - no country is immune to having morons amongst them. There are good people and not so good people in each and every country.

The ones you mentioned who opined about the Polish women were simply morons who in all likelyhood were rejected by Polish women in the past. Now they're inflating their penises, I mean egoes by badmouthing all Polish women.

Sort of like saying all Moroccans are terrorist because there are few who are. It's obviously a stupid and an inaccurate assuption. Just like the one you heard.

Life / Polish men mostly have short hair, why? [43]

hehe... it's not what i attract, but what i see on the streets and who i know...

I think you're an anti-hair magnet. ;)

Personally I wouldn't mind growing my hair pretty long but I got rules to follow. It was pretty long in the mid 80s when I lived in Sweden... Good 'ole days. :)

Life / Polish men mostly have short hair, why? [43]

Maybe you attract the follically challenged Polish men? LOL

Sorry, I don't buy the early onset Slavic Baldness Syndrome just like I don't believe in the Slavic early onset Hanging Boobies Syndrome among the ladies. Some do and some don't. Vive la différence!

Life / Polish men mostly have short hair, why? [43]

...and I just got back from China and Japan and saw the very same patern, pun intended, over there. Just like in Alaska and Hawai'i, Sweden, UK, etc, etc.

Nah, there's no "regional" balding pattern - some guys keep the hair and others don't. I've been lucky so far and hope I'll have hair on my head when I grow old. :) But if I don't I'll be just fine.

Life / Polish men mostly have short hair, why? [43]

I notice that Polish boys mostly have very short hair, I just wonder why?

Well, I travel for a living and am yet to visit a country where most guys have long hair. Are you aware of such a place? ;)

Travel / cheapest air from US to Krakow [13]

Might it be cheaper to fly from the US to UK then WizzAir from UK to Krakow?

Possibly but if so I'd ship your bags on fdx, ups or dhl to simplify you catching your connecting flight (delays, etc), security screening, etc. For the den-lhr leg check out orbitz, travelocity and kayak. Low cost carriers such as southwest, wizair, etc usually don't participate in those websites so go straight to their own portals once you check out the us-uk connection.

Remember -> the fewer bags you have -> the lower chance of a heart attack! ;) Ship it a day or so earlier, get a tracking number and forget it.

Bon voyage

Love / Inside polish women's psychology and mind [109]

Not a woman but am in touch with my feminine side lol

Seriously though Cool11 - I think women, just like men want to be happy with their lives and make decisions based on what they think will bring them happiness the fastest. Nowadays many want a successful career before they decide to start a family. Therefore many chose not to have children, at least not yet. One could say they now do what we men have been doing for centuries.

Life / Help...any Polish remedies for hives? [17]

They are to be found on the anus and can be quite painful.

Huh?? Just saw your comment. Whatever your girlfriend/wife did to you has nothing to do with hives. LOL

Hives are simply stress induced dots or patches of red, irritated skin, usually around the face and the neck but also other areas. Mine used to happen once or twice a year around my neck and usually right before major tests or exams (=> lots of stress) and more often than not they're gone within minutes or a few hours at the most. Several times I didn't even know I had an outbreak until a friend said I had some red patches on my neck. Once I went back to running 4-6 times a week they all pretty much stopped from reappearing and now it happens very seldom.

Dcchris & Beckski - great suggestions although it didn't work for me. I love chamomile and mint teas and drink it quite often but it never stopped the occasional hives. Hope it works for Karinka.

Life / Help...any Polish remedies for hives? [17]

I see, yeah I understand your problem. Several years ago I tried antihistamines but because they make you drowsy (calming down lol) I was grounded and couldn't work so in my case herbal remedies and exercise were the only options and work out was the only option that seemed to work. One day I ran non-stop for 2 hours or so just at an average pace and from that day on things got better with my hive problems. Almost as if I reached a trigger point and burned up all the stress I had. Not sure but it worked. Fencing sounds fun so maybe kill all your opponents and you'll feel more relaxed? lol

Life / Help...any Polish remedies for hives? [17]

Karinka, I have a pretty stressful job and sometimes I too suffer from hives, usually red spots on my neck and usually they disappear within minutes, but every now and then a few hours later. When I run and excercise more frequently they almost never reappear so I guess the simplest remedy is what I do, burn off your stress with exercise. YMMV. Good luck.

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

The rescent plane crash of polish president has encourage some american users to make very disgusting jokes about the tragedy (ppl died!) and polish ppl generally.

The question is why do you spread this nonsense? Are you using the Internet as your source of "reliable information"? Is wikipedia your source of reference? The generalizations you make here are just silly... You have some morons post idiotic messages and all of a sudden you know how Americans think. If I was to use your train of thought then I'd assume that Poles as a nation hate Jews. They also hate foreigners and Germans and Russians in particular. They despise the Czechs and the Slovaks and view themselves as the smartest and nicest people on earth. Why? Because many Polish people say so on the Internet so it must be true... Well, I assume they're all Polish people? Fortunately Poles never make jokes and hurtful comments about other nationalities... Yeah, right...

Anyways, without sounding mean your assumption is as illogical and ignorant as it gets...

Love / How real is your international (Polish-other) relationship ? [53]

So if I asked you the practical question is it better to have a girl from Poland,Czech,Ukraine or Russia, you could answer it would be better bargain a girl from Ukraine but probably I will get a polka because they are more available, sth like that.

Exiled are you being sarcastic or am I missing something? I often miss the clues for sarcasm so that's why I'm asking?

IF you're serious, then how can that be? I'm all for poking fun of women every now and then for them making us crazy enough to crave them most, ok all of the time but you're talking about women as if you're heading to the butcher looking for the best tenderloin you can get... Did your mama forget to breastfeed you and now you hold a grudge against all boob-equipped humans? I just don't get it... Or maybe you're a woman making fun of us men by posing as a guy? I still don't get it... I do get your screen name though - you must've been bedroom-exiled for life... ;)

Life / Polish Tattoo (considered the eagle) [29]

Sorry if this isn't the right area for this thread. Also, I know there are many like it as well =P But anyways, I was thinking about getting a Polish tattoo.

I'm glad you're learning about the Polish history before you get it. It's so frustrating when people get tattoos and they have no clue what they mean.

Several years ago I met this young punk who had a 101st Airborne tattoo on his shoulder.

Sort of like this:

So I asked when he served and he looked at me like, huh? So I pointed at his tattoo and he replied - oh I got it in Cancun because I liked the design, pretty cool, huh?

Unfreakin'believable!

So learn, respect, cherish and share.

Oh, and don't do this!

History / If i could write European history i would unite Europe under Polish language [67]

an entire continent saying things like SMS'ow, Obamie, hollywoodski, Kim Jong Il'owi, favoryt...

I think you're slightly unfair here. It's not just a Polish phenomenon. Here is the Swenglish version I hear when I watch Swedish news online.

...SMSsa, Uboma, hollyvood, Kiim Joong Iil, favorit, etc... ;)

News / Goldman Sachs says it will no longer profit from undermining Polish zloty [29]

What Soros did was transparent, completely legal

I see the point you're trying to make but there's nothing transparent about Soros. He's a communist thug who lies, cheats and deceits people. I'm glad he's old and I for one will throw a party the day he dies. Can't stand that two-faced SOB.

History / What are the key features of the Polish Eagle? [56]

...and 50 stars on our flag don't make sense either as there are 46 States and 4 Commonwealths ('Rzeczpospolita') in our union. (Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia)

So the flag should have 46 stars and 4 sparkles, right? ;)

History / What are the key features of the Polish Eagle? [56]

kind of.. PL hasn't been a kingdom in over a couple of centuries so the crown really doesn't fit to be on the head but for some reason it's insisted on.. i don't get it.

plk - your leftist leanings (I'm just sayin' ;) shouldn't affect your appreciation of history and traditions that I'm sure you enjoy.

The two headed eagle you showed is not the Polish Eagle but rather the Russian snake. The crownless Polish Eagle is not a Polish Eagle either but rather the Russian Puppet Snake - a symbol of the Polish humiliation. A semi-Polish Eagle without balls if you prefer.

The crown is without a doubt the most important part of the Biały Orzeł and whereas in the past it was a symbol of the Monarchy it is now a symbol of Poland being independent again and of the Polish population being in charge, the "kings" of their own destiny.

I hope that 1,000 years from now the Polish Eagle still has a crown. ..even if it's made of trilithium or Pan-Galactic cargonite - it gotta have a crown!!!

PS. ...and yes, I like, no I treasure the In-God-We-Trust motto here in the States. Oh, and I own several guns and love Jack Daniels too! lol

There, now I feel better...
