News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

Correct me if I'm wrong but that wouldn't be your concern, right?

Perhaps it is. I don't like to see the RCC hurt by selfish individuals, especially as it hurts many of the good ones in the process.

Personal Experiences perhaps?

Family experiences, I suspect.

By the way, why would you spread false informations?

Indeed, I wonder where his source is. By everything that I've read, the Militia would seize upon such incidents to either prosecute or blackmail priests.

UK, Ireland / Do the poles like British culture [127]

I can assure you without a word of a lie that if Jaruzelski was British and had ****** us over as he did your country he would have been cut into little pieces by the mob.

I didn't see any mob cutting Unionist politicians in Northern Ireland to bits even though they totally ****** over the Catholic minority in all sorts of disgraceful ways.

you and I know there is community spirit in the uK - oK so communism ruined that in Poland and it's quickly coming back and normalising

You should've stuck with that line ;)

The lack of community spirit (and volunteering) in Poland is the worst thing about this country. I notice that people are happy to do it while studying, but as soon as they finish university, they don't seem to do a thing.

Brits would never stand for the sort of ****e

What, like the vast network of CCTV and ANPR cameras, like the huge amount of interference in family life by social workers and so on, like the vast amount of public sector incompetence in IT projects and so on? No...never.

Police harassment - I always demand their name and badge number.

I've seen Poles do exactly the same thing.

aggressive tailgating and cutting into traffic (which Poles grudgingly accept),

That's a general Catholic thing, nothing to do with Poles. European Catholics are notorious for this ;)

bad language in front of women in pubs and restaurants

Erm...been out in the UK recently?

drunken behaviour going unchallenged in public areas

Er....clearly you've been in Poland too long.

men ******* and spitting in the street

Much worse to be found on an average Friday night in the UK...

And Magda thinks Brits are soft?

And she's right. Brits have sleepwalked into a Orwellian society where councils run riot over their personal rights, where TV Licencing thugs come and threaten people on their doorstep, where organisations like the RSPCA openly admit that they don't respect people's rights or the law... the list is endless.

News / John Godson (Poland's Parliament member) and his views on social issue. [23]

I would like to see the statistical evidence for that, if such a correlation exists I would like to see it backed up with evidence for causation.

Well, there was the ADL survey this year that showed a correlation there. Despite the dubious methodology, there's no denying that those of a lower income level residing in rural areas in Poland tend to hold more racist views. There's more dating from the time of the 2010 Presidential election, but I need to find it (not so easy now that gazeta.pl is behind a paywall for some content).

And of course, personal experience. I was there to see the "defenders of the cross" - and these were poor, uneducated people used and abused by politicians.

Why would anyone opposed to his views support him?

Because Godson doesn't allow it to interfere with his political work. He's done a splendid job in Lodz (think along the lines of what those advice centres do in Northern Ireland) with his constituents - and he has immense personal popularity as a result.

News / John Godson (Poland's Parliament member) and his views on social issue. [23]

Seems he is correct

He missed the "perhaps". Nowhere did it state a definite desire (as in "want") to do such a thing - thus Puzzie is wrong. As usual.

As for the second quote - that was a direct reference to post-WW2 Poland, which has seen Poland's image thoroughly damaged through idiotic associations with Nazi Germany - even though arguably, Poland exited WW2 in a better state - she went from a multi-ethnic state with huge internal issues to a mono-ethnic state with no such issues.

And today we have these gems.

At least in Poland, there's a correlation between racist views and education/work status. Can't comment for elsewhere (for instance - I could be wrong, but isn't the majority rural Catholic parts of Northern Ireland known for quite leftist views?).

As for Puzzie's tired old rubbish about me hating Poles - I work every day with them, I spend most of my free time with them and I'm making the effort to learn the language. Oh, and I like modern Polish history (though not to the obsessive extent that Harry does). Clearly, I must hate the country and the people.

I think the good pastor is very far from being that. It shows what a poor opinion you have of Poslowie in our country.

I think it shows what kind of patriot he is - instead of loving his country, he loathes and resents much of it. Godson is very, very well known to be a good guy - I doubt he would discriminate on a personal level even if he doesn't agree with something.

You would have been more then welcome to work on my fields if it werent for the reds! :)

Funny to think how far east Poland used to stretch, really.

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

As for the culture it is truly international and the teachers do a very good job under the circumstances.

I'd love to see how it works in practice one day - I really should write to them and ask if I can spend a day there sometime. I must admit - I am not fond at all of sending native English children to such a school, simply because of the language issues - small children might easily have issues as a result. Older children, not really - but I would have serious concerns about the 'playground' influence on younger children.

The mix is predominantly Polish as you would expect although many nations are represented, I have the breakdown somewhere if I can find it I will send it to you.

That's surprising - I would've thought that it would have been mainly foreigners with a handful of Poles in there. Yes, would be appreciated if you find it :)

It is maybe the Scottish and Welsh dialect which is a little difficult to understand at this one..

Such accents shouldn't be anywhere near a school if you ask me ;)

The dress code of the teachers is never an issue, it is the dress code of some of the students.

Ah, you see - the reason I ask is because of my own 'dress code'. I wear whatever I want to work - I spend so much time playing games and frequently getting covered in mud/grass/sand that it just wouldn't be practical to even consider wearing nice clothes to work. The thought of a teacher for primary school wearing a suit seems - to me - madness.

As for the children - does the school not have a uniform?

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

Recent sightings from our man in Poznan 'Delph' say they have already landed and are under cutting the locals, the wonders of free movement in the E.U.

What's actually interesting is the increasing numbers from South America - I've run into one particular idiot a few days ago who thinks that he can stay here as long as he wants and teach classes without paying any taxes. They don't have freedom of movement, yet Poland appears to be totally incapable of actually catching them.

The vast majority of western europeans in Poland are former expats or wealthy immigrants who sold up in their home country and moved to Poland for a better/easier life. There are also transient ' English teachers' here who view Poland as a stop off point.

And you've got some like me, who came for some adventure originally and ended up living a better life in the process. Only problem now is transferring qualifications and experience, the EU isn't a single market in some respects :/ Still, can't complain at what Poland gave me the chance to do.

I have experience of the BS as one one my children is currently there.

Out of interest, what's your opinion of the place?

One issue I've heard about these international schools in Poland in general is that there are many non-native children attending - is this the same with the one there? The other thing that I dislike (on a professional level) is the use of Polish teachers in these schools - I see the British School has only native teachers, but many others have Polish teachers doing the bulk of the work in many cases. I'm also not convinced it's good to have a mix of American and British teachers (like the British School has).

(and - a question - do you know if all the male primary school teachers wear suits to work?)

Delphi, the brit in poland who seems to know everyone.

BBMan, the one who sneers at Poland from his high and lofty perch in Canada.

Do they say that it is all right for a bishop to drink and drive?

Anyone in a similarly high profile public position would find themselves being invited to resign after such an incident.

As I said - he should resign his duties and revert to being an ordinary priest. That's the least he could do - instead o throwing it into the long grass of the Vatican where it will be ignored/forgotten.

Law / Tax to Poland from US non resident company [9]

Cyprus is probably easier and cheaper - everything in English and the same tax advantages as for Delaware with a few extra.

Isn't the Cyprus benefit (9.5% as opposed to 19% tax on dividends) finishing at the end of the year?

The real issue I can see here is residency - unless the business is properly registered in Poland, he's not going to be able to use it to get the residence permit.

Dividends would be taxed at 19 percent, salary at 32 and interest in a variety of ways - that's just the polish tax.

Is there anything stopping him from paying himself dividends every month?

Hardly. The only ones opposed were a few football hooligans.

It is all about Polish mentality of greed, the sellers are unable to understand the difference between unmodernized house and apartment. Just because an apartment sells for 15,000 PLN per m2 the house owner believes their place to be worth the same price per m2 irrespective of standard and quality.

I'd go further and say that 90% of people selling property in Poland are greedy idiots.

I remember seeing one place when I was looking to buy - it was the very definition of "greedy idiot seller" - she had obviously been left the flat and had no clue about the value of it, and she wanted around a 20% premium on the going rate of flats in the area despite not actually being equipped at all beyond the very basics. Then there are the idiots who want to sell a property - but then it turns out they only own 1/3rd of it and there are other family members who want as much cash as possible.

If you want the real expat scene try Osiedle Konstancja. It is a gated community next to the American school.

Horror among horrors! I can just imagine the kind of people that reside there...

Only going by what I've seen in a few visits to Warsaw, but the thought of living somewhere without trams/metro/railway sounds like a nightmare. I got stuck in several horrific jams there :/

Travel / Driving from UK to Poland in Christmas Time - winter tyres? [46]

but I was always told that all season tyres use more fuel and they are actually worse in summer than summer tyres, is that true?

Can only speak for my own - it's not true. I found that I use more fuel because of the conditions (running the heater, driving slower, etc) than because of the tyres themselves. They are worse in summer than dedicated summer tyres, but how often do you get the kind of conditions in the UK where summer tyres come into their own? I notice the difference in Poland, but that's only because Poland has really hot summers.

No. Nothing of the sort, as social inclusion has nothing to do with immigration.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

How many apartments don't have a bath/shower? A good few from what I have seen is Poznan.

Where on earth are you seeing such apartments? There was never many built like that in Poznan - Warsaw had some, but Poznan never did.

And as for a the minimum wage, there appears to be ways to circumvent this!

There is no way to circumvent it that wouldn't immediately result in the business owner getting into considerable trouble with the labour authorities.

News / More punch-UPS ON 11th NOV in Poland? [56]

What's even funnier is watching self-proclaimed patriots completely abuse the meaning of the word :)

Here's a hint : patriotism isn't voting PiS.

As opposed to parachuting into rightfull president's chair, before his corpse was even found?

Yet more rubbish. If you had actually read the constitution (though, like most PiS supporters, you haven't) - you would be aware that it clearly states that in the event of the President being incapacitated, the Marshal of the Sejm automatically becomes Acting President. There's no such thing as 'parachuting into his chair' - it was his legal, constitutional obligation.

and you still deem him worthy of being followed?

He is the rightful and democratically elected head of state. No matter how much emigrants like yourself try and claim otherwise.

Travel / Driving from UK to Poland in Christmas Time - winter tyres? [46]

Thanks guys for all the positive answers, and I am now really convinced to buy the winter tyres, even if it is not going to snow. In the end of the day, this will be just one off cost, but it is much safer!

Well - do what I say first and check your existing tyres for their suitability in wintry conditions. It depends where you're going in Poland - if you're planning to go somewhere like Poznan, Lodz, Wroclaw or Katowice where it's main roads the entire way, you'll get by fine on all-weather tyres.

UK, Ireland / Do the poles like British culture [127]

This is a valid point, despite what some think. If I could earn £60 an hour in a foreign country for working in a cafe or in a warehouse, instead of what I'm qualified to do, I'd do it for a few years - because I could put a huge deposit down on a house upon return.

Do you think it's possible to actually put much cash away these days?

(haven't been back to the UK for a while, but I'm assured that prices are beyond ridiculous now)

News / More punch-UPS ON 11th NOV in Poland? [56]

whilst patriotic forces have registered their Independence Day March.

Can you explain why they aren't taking part in the march organised by the head of state if they're so patrotic?

I mean, surely you don't need me to explain that your use of "patriotic" in this sentence is totally wrong - patriots love and support their country. Why would any true patriot refuse to march with the President?

In reality they are nothing more than neo-fascist scum in the same model as those traitors who collaborated with the Nazis and the commies when they occupied Poland.

I do wonder why Polonius supports them so much. Could it be that he's attracted to the shaved heads, muscles and lack of any hair on their bodies?

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

But that would imply not using political influence for personal gain!

But instead yet again we see that while the RCC says that all men are equally, some men are slightly more equal than others.

Not a surprise in the slightest.

If he had any decency at all, he would resign his duties and revert to being an ordinary priest on the grounds of setting a bad example to the followers. The crap about putting his fate in the Pope's hands is meaningless when we all know that the Vatican won't do anything.

News / Polish bishop caught with 2,5 promille [45]

It seems the good bishop gets away with some "community service". Already decided after two days. Normal sentence would be two years of jail.

What a disgrace. That level of alcohol should be instant jail time or compulsory rehab (at his expense) - not some sort of community service!

Bob Polonius, where is you opinion on this one?

He's silent as always when it comes to these things ;)

Travel / Driving from UK to Poland in Christmas Time - winter tyres? [46]

The law in Germany actually specifically requires the symbols on the tyres - I think it's a snowflake symbol? But as for what this means - I understand it to mean driving in snow - a cleared road is not considered to be winter conditions. Could be wrong, though.

I got the shock of my life two years ago in Germany - the roads were clear in Poland, crossed the border and found a complete disaster. One lane of the A12 from Frankfurt-Oder to the Berliner Ring was blocked with snow (the then-dual carriageway from Rzepin to Swiecko was completely clear) - and one of the lanes of the Berliner Ring was also blocked with snow. Then - within Berlin - many of the roads were thick with snow.

So my question is what if my car will have only summer tyres (3 months old) and I will keep the tyre chains in the boot for extreme conditions, will I have any trouble with it?

I really wouldn't go driving in summer tyres in winter in Poland or Germany - temperatures can drop very very suddenly. But it does depend what kind of tyres they are - most tyres in the UK are all-season tyres and will be fine if you don't do anything stupid.

Remind us who on this forum fought for an enemy of Poland?

Then again, in your twisted world, everyone that isn't with you is immediately an enemy of Poland. Classic fascist thinking.

Anyway, here's to Warsaw being trashed again by thugs under the guise of "independence".

Real Estate / Demand for apartments low in Poland's main cities [89]

They are only phony if you could not get one, the ones that did seem quite happy.

Milky is just angry that they haven't started the "houses for nothing" programme and that he was 25 years too late for the last promotion.

On Wroclaw let's wait for data before i concede as it's absolutely tanking.

Not such a surprise - only using common sense here, Wroclaw has loads of jobs in entry level or 2nd level positions - and these are the people who previously would have been fine for mortgages under the old rules suddenly finding that they need a much larger deposit to get on the property market.

I wonder how SkyTower is getting on - anyone know?
