News / Hooligans in PRL times ... and Warsaw in 2012 [28]

Unorganized hooligans

Unorganized?

I would never call hooligans in Poland "unorganized". They are incredibly well organised groups - no matter people think about them, their organisational skills are second to none. Not a stone would be thrown without it being planned and controlled - in this respect, they are *far* superior to the antifa opposition.

Incidentally, there were plenty of hooligan rumbles during the PRL too that had nothing to do with the police or government.

increasingly state-controlled media.

Nice soundbite. Unfortunately, those of us without an agenda can plainly see that PiS were the ones who completely manipulated the media during their Government.

UK, Ireland / Domestic arguments caused by differences between Polish and English culture [109]

Because it makes food taste better

But I know how to use other spices, salt is pretty much rendered irrelevant with my skills ;)

Because it increases the flavour of a bland diet!

Magdalena - you can probably answer this one - what was the general availability of spices in the PRL?

News / Polish things marketing turnoffs? [12]

Does the concept 'Polish and good' exist in Poland or elsewhere in Europe or the world?

Zelmer and EVER are two brands that churn out consistently good, well priced products. So yes, Polish brands in Poland have a fairly good reputation.

In Europe? Alcohol is the big one - Polish beer is going from strength to strength in the UK, and the vodka has a fantastic reputation.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Or maybe you think that former PIS sip doctor Kaminiski is wrong when he says that hardly anyone in PIS beleives in the Smolensk Murder, they just parrot what their leader says because they are afraid of losing their jobs?

Of course - Kaczynski runs PiS with an iron grip. His behaviour towards any sort of dissent (why has Macierewicz been silenced recently? What about Tomaszewski?) is certainly worthy of the 4th Republic!

Law / What kombi/estate car to buy in Poland? [7]

Mercedes. They cost more because they're better.

Mercedes are not better these days at all. Older ones are built like tanks, but they also consume fuel like tanks too.

If you get a BMW or Audi, couldn't you get it fixed in Germany if anything went wrong?

Labour costs would kill you to even consider this.

What do you think?

Octavia. It really is the sensible choice - they're common in Poland so repairing it won't be a problem, parts are easy to come by and plentiful and they'll just keep on going. And crucially, they'll take what Poland has to throw at it.

But are you really sure you want to buy in Poland?

Work / Advise on moving to Poland-Cracow (working for an international company in Krakow) [22]

Well that still sucks, but at least it's better than before.

Depends on perspective. Let's say a couple takes home 6000zl a month net - given the low levels of personal debt in Poland and the highly likely possibility of them not having to pay rent, they've got 1500 EUR a month in disposable income. Not bad at all, all things considered.

UK, Ireland / Poles leave Britain to return to Poland [89]

I don't tend to buy this business of the Polish that came here are going back to Poland.

The educated ones are (and have already left in many cases) - but the uneducated ones have little to nothing to return for.

News / Polish teenager pregnant after rape - A recent result to an older story [34]

To some extend.Example with blood transfusion is pretty good.

Plenty of other examples - for instance, a Muslim refusing to interrupt his prayer time to attend to a desperately ill patient. All in the name of "religious conscience".

The abortion seeker has rights, the doctor whose conscience would be violated is deprived of them.

The doctor has the right not to work there. He also has the right not to take public money for his education.

News / Polish teenager pregnant after rape - A recent result to an older story [34]

Doctors who are employed as public workers have no right to object to performing medical procedures. If we give them the right, where does it stop? Do we allow them to refuse to carry out certain operations such as blood transfusions on religious grounds?

Incidentally, it's often not about themselves, but rather their safety.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Prices in Wroclaw already dropped below the 4000zl/m2 mark for decent, livable flats in good locations, which is quite incredible I must add.

Source?

I don't believe you for a second. But do share.

It was also sadistic and inhumane.

Certainly the anti-abortion lot can be called that. The hospital staff can be called cowards, too.

By all means be against abortion, but don't make it personal. I'm sure they wouldn't like it if I was to stand otuside their elderly father's house and call him a collaborating Communist ****, would they?

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

If you are familiar with hate crime laws then you should know it is not smart to speak the truth openly in the USA (aka KWA/ZOG). A proud white man will get shut down pretty fast. A simple argument with a nonwhite can ruin your life. The Jews made that possible.

Paranoooid. Tiiiin foil haaat.

A "proud white man" is normally racist as hell and is proud of sports such as shooting blacks.

News / Kudos to RCC for turning Poland into a laughingstock... again. [38]

It should be day on serenity and solemnity.

Why? It's a normal work day.

"Kids having fun" on that day seems rather offensive to our dead ones.

Shows that you're really not up to speed with Catholicism, given that anyone believing in All Saints' Day would believe that the "saints" commemorated on All Saints' Day are actually alive and well in heaven. Perhaps you ought to go to Church once in a while?

Besides, it is worthless foreign custom, mucking our glorious Polsh culture.

Yes, because Polish culture isn't a fusion of local and international customs to begin with.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

I prefer to live with Europeans then Americans and other ethnic groups.

Stay there, you're not welcome here. Poles don't like foreigners, you don't speak the language and you're simply not wanted here.

Travel / European citizen also have 90 days in Poland? [3]

The rule of 90 days also applies to European citizens?

No. Well, technically, yes - you need to apply for a residence certificate before 90 days expires. However, they've no way of checking when you crossed the border and no punishment exists in Polish law for not having one.

News / Kudos to RCC for turning Poland into a laughingstock... again. [38]

I am afraid nobody in Poland associates Halloween with something solemn. (at least that is my guess). It is plain US commercial import.

Indeed, but this is exactly where the Church is going wrong. If they embraced it and said "right, we approve of it, as a way to introduce kids to the real events the next day",

Anyway, I'll be at a Halloween party tomorrow ;)

(worth pointing out actually - there's a good chance that Halloween went to the US from Scotland - so I feel quite within my rights to celebrate it ;)

((trick-or-treating always resulted in the water pistol getting fired in my house...)

News / Kudos to RCC for turning Poland into a laughingstock... again. [38]

Thought I cannot follow when some bishop tells it can cause "spiritual damage" ?

It's just the usual nonsense written by out of touch bishops.

Oy vey ! Because replacing All Saints with plastic pumpkin nonsense is so feckyn cool.

Who said it has to replace it? It's actually very nice - kids have something fun when their families are around, and they can learn from Halloween about the traditions of All Saints Day. Everyone's happy.

As for commercialism - what does a few pumpkins cost at this time of year? Not very much...

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

If Nazi Germany would have won against the Russians, it would have been relatively early in the 1940's

That's assuming that the Nazis could keep control of such a vast area - my feelings are that we would have seen incredible civil disobedience - to the point when almost every single German wouldn't be aware of just who was after them. They would struggle with administrating such a vast area - and if Russia really was on the verge of collapse, we would have seen desperate moves from

Bear in mind that the UK would have had two years at that point to arm itself to the teeth - which would have meant incredible air and sea defences. Germany would have had to consolidate their gains, and in such a scenario, it's likely that Roosevelt would throw even more resources at the Manhattan Project to get a result faster. And again - all it would take would be four cities ruined by nuclear bombs (no need to hit precisely, unlike in Dresden) to cause utter carnage among civilians.

Under these circumstances, I'm convinced that Britain wouldn't have stood a chance on the long run to avoid a German invasion or at least a truce. Which in turn would have robbed the Americans of their bases for a nuclear attack on Germany.

All they would need would be one base closer to Germany that they had - even a base set up by partisans somewhere for a few hours would be enough, as would sending the pilots on a suicide mission knowing that they won't be able to return to base due to lack of fuel.

All the end games see Nazi defeat because of the bomb - especially if the Nazis started killing Slavs.
