Law / How to verify a private person in Poland? [2]

If you need to check other person / firm - go to national register of insolvent debtors (KRDN) - krdn.pl
This service is payable.

KRDN grants anyone the fast and unrestricted access to information for people and businesses registered in the judicial Register of Insolvent Debtors. This register was established under the Act of August 20, 1997 of National Court Register in order to ensure the safety and security of business transactions. Register of Insolvent Debtors allows immediate verification of the reliability of the people in the private and economic relations, and is also an excellent tool for effective claims pursuing.

Additional info:
In our country, the data on debtors gather information bureaus (BIG). Currently, in our market works three such offices:
Krajowy Rejestr Długów
InfoMonitor
Rejestr Dłużników ERIF
But there you can get data about yourself (pesel required) or a company - once in 6 month the service is free.

Life / Any English language channels on Poland cable TV? [8]

As far I know there's no TV channels among Orange packages addressed to the English speakers.
Better check other possibilities, e.g. freesat. But it is broadcasted from different sattelite, so you would have to install additional converter (and only if your dish is 80cm or bigger).

Freesat is a totally free digital satellite platform created by the British public broadcaster BBC in order to complete the offer and range of English terrestrial TV in the UK known more as a FreeView. Free, public and widely available satellite platform is something absolutely unthinkable for the millions of Poles and yet as you can see on the example of the Freesat platform entirely feasible.

All programs of the British satellite platform are unencrypted (FTA). This means that to receive Freesat you do not need any smart card from any pay-TV provider! You only need to install a satellite dish (or use already owned) and connect the receiver.

Watching Freesat-in is free - therefore does not require any monthly fees, that is completely different than in the case of Polish platforms which are paid.

Travel / Which route is the quickest from Warsaw to Wroclaw? [6]

1st option:Warsaw - Piotrkow Trybunalski - Belchatow - Walichnowy - Wroclaw

You can go to Piotrkow Trybunalski then Wielun, Walichnowy and from there travel the old road No. 8 to Wroclaw. It is still the most popular route. With the car you can complete the entire route in 4.5 hours. Of course, much depends on the traffic which is big there, because the old "eight" is the truck drivers favorite route. There are many speed cameras on this road. Most between Wielun and Piotrkow. Well also traffic jams, especially long drive through Wielun. And it should be noted that in Belchatow we can lose 20 minutes at only one traffic light.

The capital section of the S8 should be ready in December 2015, but probably it will take much longer.

2nd option:Warsaw - Poddebice - Sieradz - Walichnowy - Wroclaw

We start the route from the A2 highway toward Wroclaw. After driving 150 km we exit at the interchange near Wartkowice and head to Wroclaw by Walichnowy. Recently, drivers are passing a new 105 km expressway from town Walichnowy to Wroclaw. Lately S8 route was extended to 45 km - section from the town Walichnowy to Sycow. With the open fragment of the S8 expressway we can get to Wroclaw faster than we used to before. We pay highway tolls in amount of 4 zł (from Strykow to Poddebice). Be careful on the section A2 to Poddebica - unmarked police cars with mobile speed cameras.

This seems to be fastest route now - less than 4 hours.

Warsaw to Wroclaw Route: Link to Google map
bit.ly/2DG2lZe

Just don't go through Lodz - big traffic over there.

After they complete S8 and A1 (2017?) all the route will get through fast roads, and it take 3 hours or less to drive from Warsaw to Wroclaw.

Law / Poland residency permit / registration questions. [23]

What kind of paperwork am I actually obligated to do? At this point in the game, I've had it with bureaucracy and paperwork. If this says that I am "released from the obligation to have a work permit", can I assume that this is in fact the case?

Yes, you don't need work permit.

What about zameldowanie, residence permit, etc.?

Any person living in Poland (including a foreigner) has to register his place of residence.

A residence card is a document confirming the identity of a foreigner during his stay in Poland. This document, together with a valid passport, confirms the right to stay in Poland and entitles the foreigner to cross the Polish national border numerous times without the need to have a visa.

It's very important document, which gives many privileges. First you should get temporary residence permit if you don't have any, and if your stay in Poland will be longer than 3 months.

Law / What is the current decision on lands taken from ancestors (Kresy) near Lwow? [4]

Sorry for the late answer, and I have bad news - unfortunately it's too late to submit the application.. I'm afraid that 8/27/2014 the final deadline expired - (the date was extended from 2008)

February 27, 2014 have changed the provisions of the Act of 8 July 2005. on implementation of the right to compensation for property left outside the present borders of the Polish Republic. The changes, which introduced amendments to the Act, expanding the circle of persons entitled to apply for compensation for the so-called Bug River property.

Is not much time for submitting the request to reopen the proceedings in order to obtain compensation for changes in these regulations - six months after the entry into force of these changes. So the final deadline is August 27, 2014. To confirm the right for compensation can occur both those who have applied to December 31 2008 (It was the deadline for submission of the application for compensation), as well as those who in this period have not made such a request.

Real Estate / Living in a Flat that is rented as "Not habitable" - what are the legalities in Poland? [2]

Change of use of the property is defined in Article 71 of the Building Law.
You should report to the local government any change in the use of flat if its effect is a change of the safety conditions listed in the Act, namely: fire safety, flood, labor, health, hygiene and sanitation, environmental protection, volume or load of the structure.

So the content of the contract do not change much if above is applicable.

Real Estate / Buying a freehold house in Poland - legal contract? How does the deposit work - to Lawyer 'in trust' or? [6]

Does the lawyer get the deposit 'in trust' until the deal closes?

Yes, but you give the deposit to a notary. But not all will take it, it's not mandatory by law yet. You need to ask about the possibility.

The Notaries Law, which regulates the most important issues related to the activities of notaries, recognizes that the acceptance of deposits is one of the notarial activities. However, the regulations do not require notary accepting deposits, and only allow such action. So if the property seller wishes to carry out the transaction in this way, he needs to find a notary office, which will agree to.

dwutygodnik.krn.pl/artykuly/artykul/bezpieczne_depozyty_notarialne_640.html

Notary puts the money on a special bank account. It's good to pay it before the notarial deed, to meet the transfer deadline. Seller gets the money at the time of land registration. Otherwise, the notary is obliged to hand over the amount due.

Genealogy / Domkoski or Dabkowski - In search of my Grandfather's history [21]

John = Jan, and George = Jerzy in Poland

And maybe the Domkoski surname was misspelled and it should be Domkowski - it's more popular name in Poland. I'm wondering, because I've checked the Ellis Island records and found that there was one Jan Domkowski who travelled to the US in 1907 - the data shows that this person was 15y old at the time.

libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger-details/czoxMjoiMTAxOTcwMTYwMDkyIjs=/czo4OiJtYW5pZmVzdCI7

Another name which you may be interested in is Jan Dabkowski - but he went to the States in 1923 - at the age of 38.

And one more thing - on the Ellis Island passengers list is also a Jerzy Dabkowski who went across the ocean at 1956.

Genealogy / Looking for any information for my Dziadek (grandfather):Jan (John) Dalecki [3]

On the Ellis Island page records I've found two Dalecki Jan's trips - first 11th April 1905 from Antwerp, second 4th May 1939 from Hamburgh, May 31 1918.

They can't be the same person (although possible related) since both were 20y old at the time.
Your timeframe suits the older Dalecki more. Another valuable information could be the name of relative he is joining. It's very hard to decipher it, but my guess would be (uncle?) Gabriel Wojtulewicz/Wojtukiewicz? Check yourself - third name from bottom

Law / Return Policies for car or motorbikes purchases in Poland? [2]

you have the right to return an item to the supplier

It's possible if the vehicle turned out to be contrary with the facts described by the dealer. You need to prove it. It is worthwhile to have expert opinion about the car from authorized service or a certified automotive appraiser. If the car has a faults which were not mentioned in the sale agreement, you can fight off the car dealer for the recovery of your money. You have one month from the time of discovery the defect. Buyer can not cancel the contract if the seller immediately replaces the defective things or remove them. But you can still demand a price reduction of the car due to existed defects.

Travel / Anyone used childcare available in hotels in Poland? [3]

The nearest hotel I've found that corresponds to presented needs would be Hotel Vestina in Wisła.

The hotel staff will provide assistance in organizing:
- professional nannies
- animation programs for children of all ages
- sport and recreation programs for older children
- the purchase of cosmetic products for children, porridges, juices, etc.

hotel-wisla.pl/dla-dzieci/udogodnienia/
So it seems that they don't hire their own nannies, and just help only with 'organizing' them. Very few hotels with baby care in Poland.
